2013-2014 Albert Einstein Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wait listed this morning. Really bummed about this one. Thought I had a great interview and loved the school. Interviewed mid October.

ThunderBear - I'm in the identical situation. My interviewer's practice and interests aligned almost exactly with mine (not an accident, I'm sure) and we spoke in depth for over an hour. I was really impressed by the school, and continue to hear nothing but great things every time I mention Einstein. Here's to getting off the WL!

Rejected just now pre-interview. Complete mid-September. All best to everyone still in the running!

Did anyone get accepted today?

Looks like they're only sending rejections today 🙁

Rejected.
Interviewed 10/30.

I actually hated my entire day at Einstein, so it's for the best.

I was in your interview group! Still nothing on my end though... Sorry about the rejection.

No news at all. Complete 10/22. Is there a way to check online status or does einstein communicate via emails?

Rejected pre-interview today, complete mid-august

I got into my dream school Monday and have other acceptances at schools I knew I would go to over Einstein, but it still stings 😏

Rejected today (Pre II). Complete forever ago. 3.9/31. GL, everyone!

Called to make sure that my lack of decision wasn't anything on my end. All I was told was that even though I interviewed in Oct. "admissions is rolling and we'll let you know when we make a decision one way or the other"

waitlisted. interviewed dec 3rd. 🙁
I know the interview went really well... and my stats are solid for this school. Guess it's just bad luck.

I thought this in particular was really lame: they begin the email with "I am happy to inform you that the Committee on Admissions has completed its review of your application, and was very impressed with your academic strengths, and your service to your school and community." And then they say they're putting me on the waitlist. It's like they're trolling me

Rejected! I had a terrible interview here though, haha so not surprised. It was completely my fault and the interviewer sent off so many vibes that she thought I was an idiot before I left for the day.

Stats: 3.9/36
Interviewed: 11/12
Got the message at 12:44 EST

I'm in the same boat.

I looked at last year's thread and one person who interviewed really early and didn't get a decision in January (like us) ended up on the high priority wait list in march. Based on the thread, I think that the people who don't hear back in January end up on the high priority wait list. The guy/girl from last year's thread ended up getting accepted though. n=1 however

Are you talking about BigBlueBear? Haha glad I'm not the only one stalking. I didn't see that he was on the high priority waitlist though his MDapps just said accepted.

haha yea. He posted sometime in April asking whether or not it's likely to an acceptance off of the high priority wait list so I assumed he was on the high priority wait list and that he got placed in it in March

Also rejected pre-interview today - OOS/29/3.8/complete early October

Hi,
I was accepted here yesterday morning, I interviewed in mid October. I'm 99% sure I'll be matriculating in this fall.

I have a few questions for others accepted.

1) did you guys get the criminal check email yet? I didn't...
2) did you guys take one years worth of ochem lab and physics lab?

interviewed in november. rejected. oos. my first/second choice school. this blows. ruined my day.

I agree with pm647 and see where he's coming from. Of course, I will be disappointed if Einstein rejects me but I have an acceptance to my other top choice and some other schools that I like a lot. It would be great to have an Einstein acceptance as it is a great school but it wouldn't be devastating if I got rejected.

Can any current students comment on off-campus housing? Are there affordable/safe places to live if you decide not to live in the provided housing?

just curious, why wouldn't you live in the on-campus housing at least for the first year? To me it's un-beatable... meet and hang out with your classmates, super cheap, get your own room, literally can't get closer to your classes, etc

I think that's what I was confused about! I was looking online and it looked like it's definitely not guaranteed that you get your own room. Can anyone confirm/deny that? That was my main issue. Also... are the rooms furnished, or could I have a double bed?

First year checking in -- definitely go with the on-campus housing. Super-cheap and it's great for socializing. There are a couple people in our class who live in manhattan and a few that live off campus in the bronx with significant others, but the vast majority lives in one of the three apartment buildings. You will not get a studio unless you're an MSTP (there is a wait-list with pretty much every student on it already), but I'm pretty sure you're guaranteed a room. Worst case scenario you share a studio for about a month before being placed in a 1 BR (which has 2 people living in it -- living room having been converted into a BR) or a 2 BR (same situation, 3 people with converted living room). Most are placed right away though since the majority of fourth years move out. Welcome to Einstein!

Thanks for the response and the welcome! So in the 1 and 2 bedrooms, does the person in the living room not have walls and a door?

No it's a regular room with a wall and door, it's just a little on the flimsy side since they were retrofitted as the student population grew. I live in the converted room of a 2 BR and it's plenty quiet provided your roommates aren't pumping music in the kitchen. I forgot to mention that if you're married or in a domestic partnership you have a good shot at a studio, but you'll need to call and iron out the details. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask, I'm happy for a distraction from anatomy and biochem.

Oh that's all really good to hear! My main concern is that I have long-distance partner who would be visiting a couple of weekends a month most likely--that's why i'm so concerned about the privacy and what not.

Another question: are the rooms furnished, or could I have a full/double size bed?

They're not furnished so what a lot of people did was hit up the Brooklyn Ikea (99 dollars delivery charge I believe) before the semester started. I just ordered all my stuff off of amazon. You'll want amazon prime by the way. Great suggestion if people want to get you a "congrats on med school!" gift. I'm not sure of the exact square footage but you can get a double bed in easily. It's sort of one of those things where you just need to pick exactly what's important to you. I have a gargantuan desk, queen sized bed and... that's about it. But those are the two things I really wanted, so I don't really mind. Also, if you do end up with a converted bedroom there isn't any closet space in the room so you'll get the one in the hall. Privacy shouldn't be an issue (within reason of course, your roommates will hear things but we're all adults here) and as far as guests go, I believe the official policy is that visitors can stay for 7 day stretches. There's no exact way to keep tabs on that of course, but it wouldn't be a great idea to try to move someone in without telling housing. Security is pretty good about letting visitors in if they've seen them before, your partner will just have to knock and smile.

Ohhh, this makes me feel a lot better... thank you so much! I have like a million questions still hahah... but I'll parse 'em out. Good luck with your test 🙂

Should we make an Albert Einstein Class of 2018 Facebook group?

Does anybody know when we will get the info for housing?

Really excited about einstein ^^

Definitely be excited!! 😀

You won't hear back from housing for a couple months, so just sit tight!

I looked through last year's thread but couldn't really find an answer. If we're scheduled to interview in March, are we essentially interviewing for a waitlist spot?

Rejected pre-interview. Submitted early July. GL to the rest of you finally in the running!

Weirded out to still not have heard anything despite interviewing months ago.

Do you like me, hate me, or kinda have mixed feelings, Einstein? I can handle the truth.
I interviewed in September and still haven't heard anything

I know how you feel man, happened to me at another school. I haven't heard back from Einstein yet, so I'll probably be waitlisted as well in the near future
Good luck man, hope you get some good news soon!

I keep telling myself at least it's not a flat out rejection, and that they'll come around eventually. Hope we both get off the WL!
