Wait listed today, interviewd 2/21. Anyone know what the wait list movement has been like in previous years?

I would second that this can be a big decision (deciding the next 4+ years of your life). Although i don't believe AE has a formal second look on campus I would encourage you to send the admissions office a request to spend another day on campus and talk to students if this would help in your decision making process(ask for 4th years because most of us have literally have nothing to do right now, and we've been through all the years). I, personally have had a great experience but have no qualms, and won't sugar coat a discussion on whether or not AE would be the right "fit" of school for you and your career goals.
 
can any current students comment on how big the rooms are in student housing?

Hah, that addresses any concerns about AECOM's name recognition ... especially for applicants who are interested in staying in the Northeast (or surprisingly, moving all the way out to the West Coast) for residency.

Also, can I say how fascinating it is that Albert Einstein almost never acknowledges anywhere their association to Yeshiva University?

What do you mean? Like for example on every page of their website it says on the top left "Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University"
Granted Yeshiva is not a household name, so they probs don't go around touting their affiliation, but I don't think they by any means hide it....
 
Einstein in giant lettering, Yeshiva much less so? And if you look at all their emails and web content, sure looks like they over-emphasize the name of the school over the name of the university.

You don't hear Einstein people using 'Einstein' or 'Yeshiva' as interchangeably as people do for, say, 'Perelman' and 'Penn' or 'Pritzker' and 'Chicago.' Just observing.

I hear what you're saying. I think it's because, unlike other med schools,they're much more well known for their graduate schools (ie Einstein, Cardozo) than for their undergraduate among the general public. The undergraduate is a religious institution and is virtually off the radar for people other than Orthodox Jews. Names like Penn and UChicago are more than just med schools - they represent a larger nationally recognized institution. Hence, people don't generally refer to their med schools by their individual names. Most people haven't heard of Yeshiva, so they go by Einstein. I really don't think there's any politics involved.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

there's a lot of talk on last years thread about this, so def worth reading.

But in short:

You get to move in 2 weeks early (rent free) and avoid dealing with the hassle of settling in during orientation.
You also get well oriented to the neighborhood and school grounds etc - it's seriously a major help.

You get to meet like 30-40 of your classmates early and make some solid friendships - going into orientation , this is a HUGE deal. Plus a lot of the people who met during that pre-orientation time developed strong friendships and groups.

You get to spend the extra time getting to talk with upperclassmen and make some friends there as well.

You get a general idea of what med school life is like. - also good for those who may have taken some time off after college to now settle back into an academic lifestyle.

All in all I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend people do it, if they don't have a strong reason not to.

It's also a super awesome social experience, they have events planned every night for those 2 weeks (bar nights, bowling, etc etc)

(And yes, I did it and it was AMAZING!!)

Coming in to things a bit late here but I was accepted in January and think I will be attending Einstein next year! Is there any sort of Facebook group for our class?

Got my wait list email this morning! Interviewed March 11th. Would really, really like to get in so I'll be sending a letter of intent. Does anyone have any advice or heard about getting off the waitlist?

Well my thought was that all med schools were supposed to fill out their seats by the March whatever deadline. My guess is that at this point it's all wl/rejections unless someone accepted withdraws and there is an opening. At this point I'm not sure if they would select someone from the interviewees pool or from the HPWL pool.
 
That line of thinking makes sense. I know several people, myself included, who were interviewed recently enough that acceptance by the deadline would seem highly unlikely. Is it possible that Einstein was interviewing people with the only positive outcome being a wait list position? Seems a little messed up....

A lot of schools interview through April, though I only heard of Einstein doing so through May. When you think about it, the school's objective is to fill out the spots, so the larger the waitlist, the larger the chance of filling out the newly empty seats with great candidates. But yeah.. it does suck to interview late and know that the best you can hope for is WL. I interviewed in January but I don't think there was much movement in terms of straight up acceptance since Jan 15 (at least according to SDN).
 
Waitlisted today as well. Someone shoot me in the face jk, already sent a letter of intent, anything else I can do as well? I cannot stand the waiting, at least a rejection offers some closure.
 
I have an interview this week - anyone else? Super late, I know - figuring it's probably just for the waitlist.

Thanks for the site. And, last week, I called the admissions office to double check I had to do something, and the person told me that in mid-late April, they will mail a lot of information, including housing, health information, etc. So, maybe we'll get info about this program at that time

6-8 weeks according to their website, but me and a lot of other people on sdn have heard in 4-6
 
So AECOM is currently my only acceptance and I have been waitlisted everywhere else. I wanted to know why current students or even you all who are intent on matriculating choose this school over your other acceptances.

Also, how happy are students here? I heard that administration is kinda frustrating to deal with

Regarding the pros and cons of the school - it's been discussed a ton in this thread and last years so def check that all out.

Regarding administration - I disagree. They are super helpful and always help in any way they can. All my experiences with them have been great thus far. (I am extremely happy here, as are most people I know)

Just want to add my perspective as well.

Throughout all 4 years here I would say the administration has been amazing - especially the head admin Christina Chin (she is unbelievable.. seriously like in awe of her organizational skills). I would even add that it is only going to get better as we now have three amazing deans of students vs. when I started we only had 2. As someone who just went through applying for residency programs the deans supported me in everyway - including answering emails over the weekends/holidays, setting up last minute appointments to discuss questions about my rank list, even making calls/emails to people they knew. All in all I was fortunate enough to get my first choice in an extremely competitive program all the way across the country - and I really do credit and thank Einstein and its administration as a HUGE part of my success. I would add though that Einstein is a place that really helps you IF you help yourself first and take initiative. There is only so much spoon feeding (and i believe Einstein does more then most medical schools) that any program can give you before you really need to take control of your own career.

Edit i think real examples are better then just generalizations:
1. administration gives you TONS of support to help build your resume - this included helping me get a research spot and giving me $$$ at another institution. Global health projects with funding are available to everyone.
2. career advising starts from day 1. first and second years get all of these career nights, alumni meet and greets, and "in the doctors studio" events which are facilitated by the students themselves.
3. Curriculum is constantly changing due to feedback previous classes have given. I would honestly say about a quarter of first and second year is completely different from when I started. They are teaching clinical physical exams skills earlier, anatomy is completely different now, biostats now is more focused for the usmle, there is a social medicine course .... the list goes on and on.
4. Administration gives you car service - this can't be understated how important it is when you are in your clinical years.
5. during your clinical years the administration makes sure you are PROTECTED from any inappropriate behavior from attendings/interns/residents. There have been so many times I've heard in third year "no you don't have to do that, its not educational for you"... honestly though it can get a little frustrating when I just want to chip in so a couple of times I had to firmly insist on doing what Einstein might consider "scut" ie help take a patient for a study, draw blood etc.

I'm not saying this place is perfect, for instance with a constantly changing cirriculum i would say most changes are positive, but every once in awhile a change has negative unforeseen implications. But the fact that Einstein constantly is willing to address these issues upfront and in real time in order to benefit the students, is something you should be looking for in any medical school. Not to mention I would add that we get an outstanding clinical education.

Can someone give a complete overview of the waitlist and hpwl with numbers and acceptance chances and the process. Also whats the best way to get off the waitlist to hpwl or acceptance and at what point in time does the waitlist move the the most

haha seriously? Why don't you send these questions to the admissions office and share it with the rest of us. Wouldn't we all want to know...
 
yup, me too. im not totally surprised, i considered it my hardest interview. my interviewer barely asked any questions... and from his expression, i felt like he thought all my answers were wrong.
