2013-2014 APPIC (internship) interview thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
what are people's opinions about back to back interviews? i have the option of doing a monday and tuesday interview back to back,OR doing tuesday, hanging out in a region for wed/th, and then interviewing friday... kinda torn between the easy and quick trip (but exhaustion) versus the longer trip
I think it really depends on whether or not there is a potential of you getting other interviews that Wed/Thurs. If there is no such possibility, I would stretch it out, I hear we will be quite exhausted and it's not recommended to have back to back ones. But if that's the only thing that will work for you, then you have to do it. Also, take finances into consideration. Hope this helps! 🙂

I think it depends on how far away the sites are, and how full your calendar is otherwise. I'm considering a couple back-to-back interviews to save on travel costs, but it's definitely not ideal. If I get all the interviews I'm hoping for (which would be a long-shot obviously), I think I'd have to do at least one back-to-back interview to be able to fit them all in (when accounting for travel time in between further-away sites).

Mass Email
Interviews 01/10, 01/13, 01/17, 01/24, 01/27
I applied to the Pediatric Neuropsychology/Autism Center and Pediatric Neuropsychology/Pediatric Health tracks. The email didn't specify tracks though so I'm not sure if this was a mass email for all tracks or just for one/both of the tracks that I applied for.

This is turning into a crazy day! I hope you are all getting some happy emails today!

If you can afford the extra lodging costs for two nights, then do it. You will likely be more relaxed at both interviews if you don't do back to back. Also keep in mind if they're in January that this tends to be a month known for bad weather so that even if you did want to do back to back interviews, the weather might not cooperate.

Last year I did a Monday and a Friday interview in the same city. Saved a bundle on transportation, but hotels would have killed the budget had I not had a place to stay with family members between the two interviews. It was great that I had the opportunity to look around a lot, but look at the expense of hotels for the extra few days.

How much travel time between the sites? If it's less than 2 hours, I'd definitely take the back-to-back dates. Keep in mind that you also might get more interviews (it's early yet!) so having Friday open for scheduling other interviews might be helpful.

Depends on the travel situation. If they are in the same city and you ARE paying for hotel, I would do back-to-back. If you have folks you can stay with it might be okay to stay.

Keep in mind many sites haven't sent out invites yet though - it would be awful to book one Monday, another Friday and then find out you need to be on the other side of the country Wednesday!

Unrelated note: Finally received a rejection from Greater Hartford Consortium by mass email. Was wondering if/when that was coming!

I am doing this as well (not by choice). I've got a Monday interview in one part of the country, hopping on a plane Monday night, getting in around 11:00 in another part of the country, waking up and going to another interview on Tuesday. I guess if flight got in sooner on Monday night, it wouldn't be so bad. But I'm just worried I won't be able to get to sleep...

University of Colorado "Dear applicant" rejection by mass e-mail ✌️

Interview at Mercyfirst, Syosset 1/16. We had been playing phone tag, the original phone call was received 11/25. I also received an interview to the Open House at Western State Hospital 11/26. Congrats to everyone who has received interviews so far!

Edit: I spoke to one of my friends who is at the Wichita Consortium, if anyone applied there, and she said it would probably be later this week at the earliest before they started notifying applicants.
