2013-2014 APPIC (internship) interview thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Oddest email rejection from Trinitas Regional Medical Center this morning. After stating that they weren't able to interview me because they had so many applicants, I get this:

"Due to the high standards of your resume, credentials, and application, I hope that you will consider applying for a position at our hospital perhaps after you have finished your internship program or some other time during your career."

Really? I mean, REALLY? Did anyone else get this message?

They want to consider you for a job but not for internship? What is this?

Has anyone gotten a phone call from the Bronx VA to set up an interview appointment? They said someone would be calling this week, and it's Wednesday...

Also, I ended up with 6 interviews in total. Is that a good number? My DCT says that's great but I know people who have more (and less).

I received the same email and had the same reactions to it! Very paradoxical ''you are so awesome but still we are going to reject you but make sure to come back to us after someone else has trained you and made you even more awesome''!!!😕

Has anyone heard from Mount Sinai Rehabilitation? I know we were contacted and told the notification date was extended until this Friday, but I was wondering if anyone has heard anything either way yet?

I don't think this is that strange. I think that many programs really are sincere when they say that there are many more qualified people than they can invite to interviews. It's certainly conceivable that a particular organization could be considerably more competitive for an internship than for a staff position (e.g., accredited internships are much more scarce than employment opportunities).

Agreed. Or perhaps you weren't as competitive for internship for the exact reason that you'd be a great fit for a job: you have oodles and oodles of experience in the areas in which they train and work, so they'd wonder what else they could actually offer you on internship. Fact is, some places would jump on having you around owing to your "work horse" capabilities, while others really do want to provide you with experiences you haven't yet had.

I agree with this. A similar statement was in a couple of the rejections I received, and I actually found it to be somewhat pleasant/reassuring.

YES. Precisely. Part of me wants to be snotty and spiteful and never apply for any position there again. But I really did like their site, so once I get over being offended I will probably consider their offer.

NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS: Applicants submitted an average of
16.0 internship applications (see question 15), as compared
to 15.1 applications last year, and received an average of
6.4 interviews (see question 17). Despite the increase in
the mean number of applications submitted, the number of
interviews received was unchanged from the last two years .

Average number of interviews in 2011 was 6.4

phone invite Child Guidance Center of Southern CT. That's it for me! I heard from them all! Hope everyone gets this part of the process with over soon and we can focus on presenting our best selves at interviews. Good luck everyone 🙂

I believe they rank after the Open House, from my understanding, if you haven't received an email stating they are not considering you, your still in the running.

I just reviewed the materials and there doesn't seem to be any indication that they contact those who are no longer being considered. So it will be interesting to see if people are notified or if everyone will go into the match not knowing if the site will rank them.

Has anyone heard from the Institute for Child and Family Health in Florida regarding interview dates? They sent an interview invite and indicated that dates would be emailed at a later time but I haven't received anything.

I got PMs about it as I had posted that I was waiting to hear. One person received notification on Friday and someone else today, so that leads me to believe that are in the process of finishing reviewing things.
I interviewed with CHA today and they are definitely still in the process of notifying people.

I know but do they rank everyone like Ann Arbor or make initial cuts like the open houses at American Lake? It's odd not to hear anything.....
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Ann Arbor VA does not rank everyone. They simply don't make any notifications.

Anyone hear from the Institute for Multicultural Counseling and Education Services- Los Angeles?

Hi all,

Sincere apologies for the lack of updates to the main list--in brief, I'm participating in an interdisciplinary training program that requires us to do a lot of clinical work out of town, and I've spent the last few days doing, well, that (in addition to have several MSes come in requiring revisions). I'll get the main list updated on Friday, provided nothing unexpected happens.

If anyone got an interview at Milton Hershey and would like to switch dates with me please let me know! I currently have an appointment on January 9th in the morning, however, ended up getting an interview from a site that only does interviews on the 9th. If you are signed up for either the 7th, 15th or 17th and would like to switch spots with me let me know ASAP! thanks!

+1...had the "are they on glue?" reaction. Sure, it's a nice site...but this process is as much about marketing ourselves to internships as it is about them marketing their sites to us. Though it was likely well-meaning, it was still an awkward thing to write in a rejection letter and IMHO, not a great PR move.

Is anyone else waiting on st Luke's? I emailed the td yesterday and nothing! Has anyone had better luck? Starting to think it's so late in the game it's probably a no-go, but would really like to be sure so I can finalize travel plans! Grrrr

Yes, I am still waiting on St. Luke's. I emailed the TD after their notification date passed. I'd love a chance to interview their, but with no response...I'm not wanting to build my hopes at this point.

I just don't understand... How do you send out multiple batches of invitations and rejections and then stop notifying applicants and/or not respond to their emails? I understand it's a super busy time - but their lack of consistency baffles me! Oh well. I wonder if I pretend I received a rejection I'll stop compulsively checking my email... Will someone please PM me a pretend rejection from St. Luke's so I can have some closure?? 😛

How I felt about Citrus for making me wait on them to finalize my travel plans. FINALLY got my rejection today. CLOSURE!!! And now, I am done, off to interviews!!

Rejected too. I made my travel plans anyway. I'm still waiting for two sites. =/

You can always send them a rejection letter. Feel free to borrow mine (the sites all plagiarize each other anyway).
Dear Training Director:
I regret to inform you that I've reached the maximum amount of interviews that I can possibly attend in January without losing my mind and breaking the bank. I am sorry to inform you that your tardiness in responding to my application has led me to need to reject any possible forthcoming offers of interviews. I hope that next year you will be able to meet your self-appointed deadlines in a timely manner, but your current inability to do so has caused me to question your capabilities to provide me with a quality training experience.

Hoping to hear from one of my sites today which indicated 12/19 as their notification date!

I also have not heard yet to schedule. I think this depends on who is interviewing with you, as that person will be the one to call you to schedule and figure out a time that works for both of you.

After lurking around in this thread for almost 2 months now, I finally decided to make an account.
I saw in the first page that a mass rejection was emailed (I haven't heard from them at all and got no response to my emails, I may just call them tomorrow) but has anyone gotten invites from Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center?

Has anyone heard either way from Alexian Brothers neuro/anxiety track? I emailed the TD on 12/17 and called 12/18, but still no word back...

I received an e-mail invitation for the mental health track of Louis Stokes VAMC on 12/5.
