I wanted to know if I should apply on August 1st with my current mcat score or wait until I retake it. I got an 18 which is extremely low. I have a cgpa of 3.1 and sgpa 2.8.

You could always fill out the application and have it ready for your MCAT retake if you want to go that route.

I was wondering if the 2014 app will technically open before August 1 (the first day it can be submitted) so we can work on it before it is eligible to be e-submitted. I was thinking it would make the most sense for the 2014 app to be open before you can submit so i can fill it out before the app cycle opens. I know the other health professions (at least MD and DO) do this. does anyone else know if this happens, or does the app just open on August 1? Thanks!

I would make sure and play it safe and avoid filling out the information before the opening day of the cycle. The site says that your information will be lost.

If you want to be ready the minute the cycle opens then go ahead and print off the application, make a word doc, answer all the questions, and when the cycle opens you can just copy and paste. All you would need to do is put in your transcript information and push submit.

It won't give you access to the application until August first. Also, they don't send the applications to the school until September, so keep that in mind

So should I wait for the retake or just send in my application early.

My opinion: due to your sGPA and cGPA, send in your application and sign up to retake the MCAT.

I wouldn't apply now or even apply now indicating that you will retake it.

Here is why. If you are going to retake it, then what is the point of applying now? You will have no benefit because the school will either reject you outright or they will invite you to an interview. Now at the interview, the 18 on the MCAT will come up and what is your defense? That you will retake it? It is much better to have retaken the MCAT and gotten a higher score and then say "Oh yeah I got an 18 the first time but the second time I got a " insert higher than 18 score." at the interview.

In addition, I am not sure if the application service will send updated MCAT scores to the schools after you submit the application. I know they will send in your fall grades but I don't know about MCAT so you may have to resend the MCAT yourself!

And, the schools that are considering you due to MCAT will set your file aside. Lets just say that your file will have a good chance of getting lost or overlooked.

You have one chance to impress the school so why not do it with your best foot forward?

Also, Pod school app is not like Med school app where time of application is very important. Most people turn in their app around nov-feb.

So sign up for the MCAT for this fall and study all summer, aim for a 22+ and then turn in your application.

Has anyone had their application mailed yet? When do schools start reviewing applications?

When I went to Kent State I talked to one of the recruiters there and he said that even if you sent it out on the first week of August it would take at least 4 weeks to go through the AACPM system. He said that throughout August it takes 4 weeks to be asked for an interview, then he said by September it is usually 3.5 to 4 weeks, then not until mid October if you apply it will be just 3 weeks.
He said this has nothing to do with the overload amount of applications, but just because the podiatry medical schools don't rush it.

Kind of made little sense, but I plan on applying in a week and that is more because I took the MCAT on August 9th, haven't gotten any my LORs, and for some reason my school hadn't processed my Fall bill so my transcripts wouldn't show the classes I am taking in the fall. My teachers and podiatrist have each said they are starting on it, but I just didn't want to apply and wait 3 weeks for my LORs. I really don't see the need to rush it yet since it is hard to believe but there is really no overload of applications sent in the first month of applications.

It doesn't take that long in October. I think I submitted my app last year around late September, and was hearing back from many schools within a week.

wait wait...so the application opens up aug 1? is this every year? we cant start sending anything in till then,,
