2013-2014 Panic Thread

two waitlists and two decisions pending post interview 🙁 I know I'm in a better position than some people, but I still can't help feeling depressed about the direction this cycle is taking for me.

1 WL 15 silences
I guess I will just keep waiting but planning on sending an update come January.

Anybody freaking out about having to take that new 2015 MCAT if things don't work out this round?!? I know I am
As long as we take the MCAT in 2014...its still the old one, so don't panic!

Although this is the panic thread...

That's true! It's just a matter of being ready. I work full time and won't be free to focus on studying until June. 🙁
I feel you! Studying for the MCAT while working full-time sucks...I had to do that this last time and I didn't do all that great. If it helps, I figure if this cycle doesn't work out, I might spend a (nother) gap year strengthening my application before reapplying..which means I'll spend a couple of months transitioning/restudying, and retaking it August, if need be, retaking the last one January 2015 to go out with a bang, and reapplying in 2015.

That's assuming the sky falls down and nothing good happens to me from now till then...But *fingers crossed that it doesn't have to happen to either of us....*knock on wood**

Exactly! I'll start worrying more in March once the last of these interview invites go out. Ha!

Or maybe they're such hard workers that they don't take winter break off. Oh please oh please...
I don't know about that. Someone got a rejection on Thanksgiving, it will be even worse on Christmas.

When do most Adcoms go for Winter Break? Please tell me they only go away the week of 23rd December! 🤔

This is a great question. My friend just started vacation for Baylor.... but my friend at Yale is still in school till next week.

If students are on vacay...are the adcomm members on vacay as well? 🙁

I don't like the idea of waiting till JANUARY to hear stuff... sigh.

Different schools, different holiday times. Some schools are quarter some semester. Trust me admissions are like the first ppl to take off at a school so I'm expecting a nice long wait until we hear anything.

I am getting tired of the wait.....

Its worst now that school is over and dont have much to do. I do have another standardized test to study for (FE: Fundamentals of Engineering), so I have that going for me :inpain::facepalm:.

Hello fellow panic-ers. I'm official joining the panic thread train. I'm dreading the holidays so much because it means more weeks of silence and more weeks closer to the January/February super panic mode.

My panic song right now:

I'll join in on my disliking holidays, it means more waiting and probing questions of family. I swear they don't always have to ask, if I heard something they would already know =.=
Dude, seriously! I will personally go call all my relatives if I hear back anything good. I check my email and phone so many times a day that I can't even count anymore. With the classes having ended, my head is thinking about this every moment. The wait is excruciating, but I know that it will all be worth it in the end. At least that's what I keep telling myself! 👍

I keep telling myself the same thing. I hate that I have so much idle time now. All I can think about is if I'll hear back. I am starting think I'll uninstall my email app for the time being so I'll stop neurotically checking my phone

Haha. At first I turned off sync but then I thought, if they email me, I need to choose a date instantly so I can have the earliest interview and increase my chances at rolling admissions school. And my phone would vibrate if I got a notification but that still wasn't enough... 🙁

Here's to hoping the season of giving trickles down to the ad-coms for what might potentially be their last work-week for 2013! Good luck everyone, and in the meantime:

Still nothing but rejections and holds. January is almost here and hopes are almost gone. What do you people think about MPH programs?

SMPs are better to improve your app if medical school is still the goal

I've seen various places that people said they have interviews this week so they HAVE to still be around at some schools....plus the whole "don't want to leave work on their desk" theory doesn't make much sense to me because if they're conducting interviews, they're gonna have unfinished work anyway, right?

Send me an II please! It could salvage this holiday...

Applied to 30 schools. One interview so far.... Complete early September..

Yes, got news back from a school even though I thought I wouldn't hear from any more until January!!!

.... rejection. :penguin:

After I got my "first" snail mailed pre-interview rejection, I discovered why I haven't been hearing from some of my schools at all... apparently my mom confessed that she has been throwing out all the rejections - she figured if it was bad news why let me know. How did I find out: I said I'm surprised more schools don't mail rejections. My dad's response: oh those, your mom has been throwing them out all along, LOL.

- The most annoying thing was that I said a score and then he said out of out of 2400?.... which is really insulting because that would have probably meant that I guessed the whole test.... ummm no out of 1600.
Actually the SAT used to be out of 1600 but may not have mattered in your case if you are a traditional applicant.

How ... weird. My parents haven't ever touched a piece of mail with my name on it! I would think of it as something of a privacy violation. In other news, I haven't received a single rejection by snail mail... maybe my postman is taking the role of your mom 😀

I have gotten zero pre-interview rejections via snailmail... hmmmm... :eyebrow:

But my mom did tell me about the couple post interview rejections I've received.

Wow. Hahaha. Hopefully it wasn't too many schools though. One rejection a day is enough, much less 3 or 4 in one uncomfortable sitting.

No apparently it's been only two, when I asked from where she just said idk some school in Michigan ... Hmm not helpful. I'm just glad I didn't send them an update letter or Letter of interest .

Sorry to hear about these rejections brothers. Based on previous years, I'm anticipating one from my top choice this week. It has been 14 weeks since my interview.

Got an email this morning from Stony Brook and my heart was pounding when I opened it...

Just said that my application was complete....same email I got over a month ago?!

:eyebrow:

Thanks for getting my hopes up! The silence continues...
