What do I do if my premed committee said they would write my letter in a couple days, but didn't? It's been four weeks now!!!!

I just submitted my primary :scared:

Congrats, you're well on your way now! Don't look at it until you have to (maybe to prep for interview) because you may find a tiny error and will freak out unnecessarily.

Completed 10 secondaries today. So...many...essays...:boom:

Excuse me while I go rock back and forth in the corner alone.

I feel your pain! 🙁

And I feel yours too.
I submitted my TMDSAS on the first day and I see posts of people already being invited for interviews who just finished their apps recently.

The truth is that better applicants get invited before average applicants. And I think that having a Low GPA/multiple MCATs is a hard obstacle to overcome even with a higher Masters/SMP and a higher retake on the MCAT

Way of the world... 😳

OK so one of my secondaries (top choice state school) said to submit the secondary within 14 days of receiving it. I submitted it 15 days after receiving it. Is this gonna be bad? Will I be at a disadvantage? :scared:

Of course it doesn't look good. You would be smart to call the school and ask them. I am pretty sure some schools are strict and state that once you have missed the time allotted for submission that you will be considered as automatic withdrawal. I would not worry about it though considering that fact that your were able to submit it.

Well it's not a hard deadline. They just recommend sending it within 14 days. The school is on the East Coast. Friday (yesterday) was the 14th day, and I sent it at around 11pm (on the 14th day) West Coast time which is 2am on the 15th day in the time zone for the school. So although I still submitted it on the 14th day in my time zone, it was 2 hours into the 15th day for the school's time zone.

I would not stress about it then. I highly doubt they compare the students with first criteria showing the approximate day and time they submitted their secondaries. I would take it as a learning experience and make sure you get all your other secondaries from here on out turned in way before the due date.

Does it look bad if you work for big pharma?

I thought research is research but apparently doing it for a pharmaceutical company is different than in an academic setting

*sigh*

Just tell them that you assumed it meant 14 business days since everything else in the admissions process runs on a business day schedule ( transcripts/LORs/school admissions staff,etc...)

Boom... Lawyere.... I mean doctored!

Just to contribute, I had TWO transcripts get lost in the mail. They finally arrived a few weeks ago, having had to send them to a special address which expedited the process of marking them as received after I called and moaned to AMCAS (yay for losing 1+ month but saving a few days...) So instead of being completed as early as possible, I am going to be so late. :'( I hate the world.

I keep feeling like I should apply DO just to be safe, cause I really don't want to do this process again.

Once AGAIN, Right now guys, I'm telling you, and each reapplicant, or even matriculant will agree. DETACH YOURSELF FROM THIS PROCESS, don't be obsessed, it will kill you for this upcoming year. Have a mentality of, "if I get in great! If I don't, there is always next year"

seriously, this is one emotionally grueling journey, DETACH, enjoy this upcoming year

If we don't get in this year, does that mean we have to take the new MCAT in order to apply?

New MCAT won't be live until 2015 so you have plenty of time.

Good advice.

This has been stated many times across the forums but it bears repeating; only apply to schools you could see yourself attending. You'll be very sorry at the end of the cycle if you add schools just because you think you have a good chance of acceptance ( especially if you fail to consider cost).

Don't be one of those people who end up making a thread entitled, 'Accepted at DO school, but want to reapply to MD schools.'

well said.
+1

Same thing happened to me last time around. Can't believe a simple error like that can destroy an application. 🙁

I had a moment where I realized that I repeated a sentence in my personal statement on my primary application. It was in the closing statement so it will be without a doubt memorable.

Its what I get for working on it and revising it so much. Then getting some last minute feedback and adding it them submitting without a final revision. Added their comment to the closing statement but somehow added it twice. Boo...

My DO personal statement is flawless though! Oh well.

Never look at your AMCAS after you submit! Maybe before your interview

Hi, just wanted to vent about going crazy these days.

Think I'm gonna stay away from sdn for a bit once I get verified. The obsession is really unhealthy. And it's only July! Don't know if it's all that LCD stuff but couldn't fall asleep for the longest time while scrolling through sdn posts in bed last night.

Everyday I wake up and debate whether or not I should add another school, although I have a ton of secondaries to write already.

Now tell me you feel pretty crappy too and make me feel better! 👍

Trust me, I KNOW how stressful and ****ty this process is. But you really just need to try and relax. You can't worry about things that aren't in your control because it'll take away your focus from things you can control like writing good secondaries, and preparing for interviews <---(which I would highly recommend). This process is LONG and AWFUL except for the beautiful people who get accepted in October. I am on my second application cycle and have mentally prepared myself to be waiting until about this time NEXT YEAR for my first acceptance. All you can do is prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Ive done so many secondaries and received 0 iis. i just want 1 to ease this stress. It freaks me a out a lil when ppl who submitted their secondaries after me get iis...doesnt that mean they glazed over mine and put it away? do they really re-review it?

 I remember doing that last cycle, staying up till the wee hours of the morning following past school specific threads to try to predict my future. As you can see from my reapplicant status, it doesn't really help. I don't really have any advice, going crazy is a natural part of the process but just know that everyone applying is going crazy too, even the superstar applicants. Hang in there!

Don't keep adding schools! I know, I entered this cycle where I would finish a secondary and think, 'Maybe I should apply to X and Y, they're great schools, and I'll always wonder what if..' Trust me, the last schools I added didn't even invite for an interview. You have to stop yourself, or you'll wind up spending too much money before interviews even start.

Hi guys! I am a reapplicant this cycle from last year. My application cycle was terrible last year with 1II and 26R.

This cycle, as of now, and I already have 3II and 1R. I am guessing applying early is already paying off!! Don't give up and good luck guys!

😱 When were you complete?

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH😱

...wow that really did help. Thanks guys!

Is it common/possible to get an EKG tech job without taking classes?

People who receive interviews from October - January, do they remotely stand any chance in Pre-Match? What about the Match?

I'm talking about TMDSAS (Texas application service)

I WANT AN INTERVIEW SO BADLY!!!

Filled out 16/16 secondaries, but still waiting to hear form 3 schools.. including my dream school (Vandy) 🙁

What's your MCAT this time?

Goddamit just noticed a mistake in the diversity essay I submitted to about 6 schools so far, I forgot to put an 'a' before a work. 'I grew up in this environment as first-generation American who...' something like that. **** I'm mad, I've read this essay about a hundred times and never saw it. Hopefully schools won't care but I'm sure that's enough for a rejection at some places.

I had a pretty blatant error on my secondary at the school I was accepted to. I don't think one or two mistakes will affect you. I was pretty pissed too though haha

am i allowed to vent on how neurotic everyone on SDN seems to be??

am i allowed to vent on how neurotic everyone on SDN seems to be??

Sure, this seems like a good place to do it. People need to learn patience. I feel like for some people on here the application process consumes/interferes with their life.

am i allowed to vent on how neurotic everyone on SDN seems to be??

It's just that time of year; people waiting to verified, people scrambling to get secondaries completed, people holding their breaths for IIs..It'll ease up a bit around October/ November, when the first acceptances come out.

I still think worrying about a relative's bad MD reviews and the bearing this has on your app is a bit over the top, though.

Me during the application process so far: at times I'm right there in panic mode and act completely neurotic.

At other times, all this neuroticism is pretty entertaining to watch :corny:

Oh my god...a school just notified me that two of my letters are unsigned. These are the same letters I used last year...
