2013-2014 Panic Thread
Started by SilverCat
Hopeless is the chronic form of panic.
Does this mean we should not be feeling hopeless yet?
I have a meeting with the dean of one of my waitlist schools tomorrow. And next week I am supposed to be talking to the other school.
I cannot believe round three is going like this... Going out with a fizzle.
None of you is hopeless. It just feels that way.Does this mean we should not be feeling hopeless yet?

I think the word "panic" is an understatement now. The proper word is... hopeless...

I'm sorry man, I'll be going in on round 3 now too :/ This is seriously such a painful process, worked my but off, read studoc for the last few years, and kids are sad they didn't get into their top choice whereas I can't even get in despite decent stats

I would be going on round four if I could afford it. People were basically selling blood to get me to interviews and stuff. It has also been suggested to me that my age is a factor argh.

After 3 cycles and no more money, it definitely does feel like all hope is lost.
Have you applied to D.O. ?

Yes I did my first round.
And I applied internationally this round. How much does one have to suck to not get into an international medical school?
I'm so sorry, how about carribean options, you may not get an ideal residency, but you'll be a doctor.

Ugh just read your post , are your gpa and mcat within normal realms ?

Normal enough that I was able to get four interviews from US allopathic schools including one that I consider midtier. I am also URM and SES.
This from last year's Iowa thread. After 3 cycles and no more money, it definitely does feel like all hope is lost.
This is my 4th time applying to CCOM so I have some experience with the final pool. I am an in-state student.
The first year I was final pooled and then rejected. I received the letter via snail mail the Friday prior to spring break. (The equivalent of March 15th this year).
The second year I was final-pooled and then waitlisted. I received that letter either the Thursday or Friday before spring break. I started at 48 on the waitlist and ended at 19.
Last year I was final-pooled and waitlisted yet again. They sent out emails again the Thursday or Friday before spring break saying that they had mailed letters with decisions. I received the letter the next day (I live in Iowa City). However, I had a couple friends who were accepted from the final pool and they received acceptance EMAILS after the original email was sent. Despite the fact that admissions staff stressed on interview day that all final pool decisions would be sent by snail mail. Last year I started the waitlist at 36 and ended at 5.
This year I am stuck in the final pool one more time. I have finished my MPH and work now with research at Student Health and am hoping for better news. However, I have the solace of an acceptance from the in-state DO school in case that doesn't happen.
And then -
I just got the acceptance email!!! My 4 years of persistance have paid off!!!
User name was Imwehr.
Whatever path you take I wish you well.
Well, this thread looks pretty dead so I guess I'm the caboose. I was accepted off the wait list yesterday. I am so thankful, and I'm ready to begin learning/working.
-2nd time applicant
-Multiple MCATs
I mostly just lurked in this thread, except for a few venting posts here and there, but it was reassuring to know I wasn't the only one going through hell.
To all those still fighting for your dream, don't give up.
