Finally received the II e-mail! Does anybody know what they mean by a class list:

Anyone know if Upstate accepts OChem II (w/ lab) instead of Biochem?! All the other schools (that mention biochem as a pre-req) on my list do.
Probably not,on the msar it says that upstate requires biochem instead of orgo 2
Hmm ok. I've learned to not exactly trust MSAR explicitly on this issue, as some schools list biochem as required on MSAR, but on their actual website they explain that Ochem II is acceptable substitute. Perhaps I should just send them an email.. I've not done that for any school yet. Do I just email the quick question to a generic admissions email address?

If it's not on their website then I don't see the harm in sending an email to clear things up. I think you're fine though, I remember reading on upstate website that as long as you take Biochem your senior year your candidacy is fine.

You are eligible for an interview even if you haven't taken Biochem, but you must complete it before matriculation. This has been the case for me. It also says it on the Upstate FAQ site. Good luck!

Searching through last year's thread made it seems like these holds were basically early rejections, which is very unfortunate.

II here as well! I've been traveling to other interviews, and thus not checking the status page neurotically, so I'm not sure how long it's been sitting there. Haven't received the email yet, though. OOS, complete on 8/16.
Just had an interview with them, 9/4. It was a phenomenal experience! Everyone there was so friendly, relaxed, and helpful. Definitely try to stay with an overnight host and ask them plenty of questions! 🙂 The fact that the interview itself was MMI (multiple mini interviews) was kind of intimidating at first but turned out to be really cool -- I wish more schools would do this.
When did the day end? I noticed there were two start times, so just wondering for making travel plans. Thanks!
I called to ask about this yesterday and was told that the day would end around 3:30 most likely.
Pre interview hold as well...second time applicant...last time I got the same thing...basically a rejection...sigh this process blows

Pre-interview hold here too, no idea what it means. The email made it seem like we were "small pooled" and not an outright rejection. Dont know what to think

I'm an MS2 here at Upstate. Glad you guys are interested in the school. Please ask any question and I'll try my best to answer.
Interview is MMI format and this year will be 9 stations instead of 8 stations, one of which will be small short essay. Essay doesn't have to be long or anything, just to gauge how well you can formulate your thoughts and responses.
Definitely try to get with a host student to learn more about the school to have a real feel for it, and of course to save some money 🙂
The school is not under probation anymore. The curriculum is revamped and for the better.

Do you know what this "pre-interview hold" is ?
Not sure. I also got a pre-interview hold for SUNY Downstate -- basically an email telling me to send my fall grades and any updates as they come available, without offering me an interview slot 🙁

with stats like yours I don't understand why you would get rejected... maybe the pre-interview hold doesn't necessarily translate to rejection? I was invited to interview but my MCAT is only 2 points higher and my overall GPA is lower...
... I wouldn't lose hope if I were you, and with those kinds of stats you should get interviews with a decent amount of other schools.

I'm from LI, and my friends and I started obnoxiously shouting "STRON GIIIIISLAND!" whenever we would go to bars as soon as we were old enough to get in... at first it was meant to mock our fake n' bake, faux-hawked bretheren, but after awhile it became endearing to me lol.
Hi, I'm getting conflicting answers to this question from SUNY upstate: do they use an applicant's average MCAT score, or the highest MCAT score? Any constructive feedback appreciated.
Thanks for that piece of info -- seems like SYR airport is max 20 minutes away, so should be able to make a 5:15pm flight. Getting back to CA is a pain from the east coast since you have to leave earlier to make it by the end of the day, but think of all the airline miles!

Just a quick word about pre-interview hold. Though its not as nice as getting an interview it does not mean rejection. I know classmates who were on pre-interview hold, then received an interview later in the cycle, and were then accepted. This isn't frequent but it absolutely does happen.
Considering the only recently came off probation, not as high as Downstate or Buffalo. I'm not sure where Stony Brook comes into the ranks.
