Hey guys,

I was wondering if there are any current Wayne students here on the forum that are Canadian. I am looking into financing options but it seems that the max. limit allowed by most banks' LOC's is lower than the base tuition for Wayne State. Unfortunately, I cannot contribute anything myself and neither can my parents.

I wanted to ask any current Canadian students at Wayne Student what other options they might be aware about and how they are financing their medical education at Wayne State. Any insight/advice is appreciated.

If you meet a representative of the banks, they may be able to bump up the LOC limit. It would help if you had a co-signor.

Just got my II for January 23rd 🙂

Applied really late (complete around 10/31)

MCAT: 14PS/10VR/13BS
GPA: 3.99
Canadian

I hope there are still a bunch of spots left, seeing as some people have been accepted already

I just got an II for January 13, and that is Auto Week in Detroit. NO ROOMS AVAILABLE ANYWHERE NEAR THE SCHOOL!

edit: WhatdoIdoWhatdoIdoWhatdoIdoWhatdoIdoWhatdoIdo?

They have a student host program.

There's still plenty of interview spots available in January! I called to reschedule my interview, and I had several dates to pick from.

Good luck to those waiting

Hey Everyone! Could someone share what they know about scholarships at Wayne? What type of student is offered scholarships?

Public state school + 350 student class size = Don't get your hopes up. I'd guess they offer scholarships to some some OOS students to entice them if anything.

I was waitlisted this past round, does anybody know if sending in a letter of intent and my grades from this past semester would be a good idea or not? (Mostly just sending the grades part). If yes, should I send them via mail or via e-mail?

Wayne State accepts updates by email (just send to central admissions email, same one that sent info about interviews). They send back a nice email confirming it is added to your file. But I have no clue if anyone actually reads them.

Not to be all up on you correcting data or anything but class size is actually 290 (size of class they accept each year). There are a bunch of people who modify/repeat stuff year to year so actual class sizes fluctuate but I don't think ever actually gets to 350.

I have no idea on how many people receive these, but I do know a few people on full and near-full scholarships. My unscientific assessment is that there are only a handful of people who received money specifically to come here. I know a few in-state people in other classes who got full rides, and there are undoubtedly some out of state people who received that same perk. The people I know in our class who are on full tuition scholarships were awarded the money after the first round of year one classes were up. I have a decent combination of need- and merit-based money that does take the sting out of out of state tuition. The caveat I want to say with this information is that it's entirely anecdotal, and if you are worried about the price tag (as you should be) you should call the financial aid office for more answers. The woman who runs it, Deirdre, is super awesome and a really nice woman.

Does anyone know how strict Wayne State is on pre-requisites? Could I get away with not doing intro bio lab? I haven't taken any more advanced bio labs since high school but have done biochemistry labs.

You will need to call the admissions office and check. It is listed as a requirement, so the only way to tell if you personally need to take a bio lab based on what you have taken is to check with the admissions office directly. Any advice given to you on here may or may not apply to your specific situation.

Does anyone know if you can fill out a FAFSA before having any acceptances? What would happen if you list a school that you're waitlisted at (hint- Wayne State)? I just want to get it in early. Thanks.

I just added this school, they emailed me that they well review my materials and contact me between now and April. Do they have any rhyme or reason for this process? Certain days they send out interview invites or anything?

It's a good idea to add schools you've been wait listed at. That way, if you get in last minute (hoping that doesn't happen to you, but just hypothetically) there aren't any delays in the disbursement of funds for you because they will already have your FAFSA! 🙂 The dean at one of my interviews told me that.

I sent it last week to the "bcotter" email because that is who sent out the interview invites and what not, but I haven't had a response back yet...hopefully they do add it to my file! Maryland was pretty great about adding things to my file...Michigan state, not so much.

If you didn't receive a confirmation email, I'd personally contact bcotter again (just call maybe) to verify they received the letter. You know how emails get lost in cyberspace sometimes...better to be safe than sorry. Good luck!

I agree with Surgeryislife.

I emailed Barbara the day after my interview and she got back to me within a few hours, so chances are your email was lost in cyberspace

Has anyone received IIs lately? I'm getting desperate, was complete mid-September, sent an update with recent grades a couple weeks ago and got a "thanks for continued interest inWSUSOM" email back. No II. Are there specific dates when invites go out or is it random? (non-trad, MCAT 30, uGPA 3.79, gradGPA 3.71)

I'm in the same boat. They even told me my app has finally been reviewed, but still nothing . . . I'm assuming it's a no at this point.

I really don't want to give up on Wayne yet! Anybody know if calling to check on your status will give/crush hope? Not sure if I just need to start the re - application prep or if all hope is lost...

They won't tell you anything. All you can do is wait.

Anyone only receive a two week notice for their interview? I thought they give at least a month notice in advance.

I got an email that said be here at this time, confirm or reject. I of course confirmed! More notice would be nice, but hey, it's an interview!!!

Did they e-mail saying that your application had been reviewed?

I called, they said my app was reviewed but they haven't made a decision on the interview yet. The interviews are going on through April. I never got an email saying my app reviewed.

If the date doesn't work for you, they're very good about rescheduling! I had to 🙂 they were understanding and made it easy.
