2013 APPIC Internship Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I worked 25-30 hours a week then during December and May I worked full time cause school was out and I (still) had no social life 😉

Is this normal? We do 16 hours a week (two full days) for our clinical placements, so it averages to about 8 contact hours a week. How do you find the time for 25-30 hours with classes, research, TA/GA positions??

Dear Baltimore Psychology Internship Consortium, Thank you for the second rejection letter from your program! Seriously, once wasn't enough? It was the exact same letter she sent last week. I only applied to one track as well.

Very annoyed by this.

I'm a bit confused actually. I applied to the neuropsychology and substance abuse tracks--but the letter did not specify.

Generalized email interview for General Track. Interview dates Jan 7, 10, 14, 17.

I guess she wanted to make sure that you were rejected thoroughly?

Don't sweat it, you wouldn't want to go somewhere so disorganized that they have to stamp out people's hope twice.

Haha exactly, the site looks rather silly in my eyes for letting that occur! Pretty sure I got the picture after the first rejection haha. It was one of my favorite sites so it stung, and the subject line did not indicate that it was a second rejection, so I thought for a moment that they may have changed their mind.

I am sorry about that, I know how it feels to get your hopes shot down. 🙁 Still, there are others that I'm sure you're waiting on so lick your wounds, eat your favorite fattening food, & keep your head up because there is still lots of hope for you! :woot:

Generic rejection email from UIC Psychiatry. I applied to the adult track, but the email said they got 204 applications and are interviewing 29 people for the two tracks combined.

That makes my totals 3/5 now. 10 more to go! Crossing my fingers that I'm next on the MUSC list 😉

University of Mississippi Medical Center/V.A. Medical Center Consortium - rejection generalized

Looking like a day full of rejections for me so far!! Although I am actually hoping to get rejections from the ones that I know are likely (like ones that sent out invites already) so I can just cross them off my list already!!

Generic but nice rejection email from Long Island Jewish - Zucker Hillside Hospital, neuropsych track.

Sorry to hear about the rejection. Would you be willing to share the track you applied to at the University of Mississippi Medical Center/V.A. Medical Center Consortium?

Generic rejection email sent out this morning around 11:45...

Generic email with invitation to interview at the May Institute. Interview dates are Jan 3, Jan 9, & Jan 15. Open house for each placement site on Jan 2, 8, and 14.

Generic email rejection from the May Institute received a few minutes ago.

"After careful consideration of your interests and background, the interest of our facutly and the needs of our program, we have decided that your qualifications, while very impressive, are not a match with our internship program requirements."

Boo!

As of this afternoon:
I have interviews at Duke Medical Center, Primary Children's Medical Center, Vanderbilt Medical Center, and University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Still have 9 left to hear back from. Here is keeping my fingers crossed.

Generic but pleasant rejection email from Univ of Oklahoma HSC -- applied to the VA and neuropsych funding sources.

Rejection by generic email from the U of OK Health Sciences Center. 🙁

1) San Francisco: I saw that some rejections were sent out a while ago, but have not seen anything about interviews. I checked last year's thread and it looks like no one posted about getting an interview (again, only rejections).

Does anyone have a sense of when they send their invitations? Their brochure says they typically only interview about 25 people, so it may be that the few people who were offered invites weren't checking SDN.

2) UCSD/VA: Has anyone received a rejection? I am counting it as such because they called people over a week ago, but just double checking others' experiences.

Feel free to PM me if you prefer.

Thanks!

Have not been invited; applied and I know they got my app because a while ago they emailed me to ask me a question related to tracks on my application, but have not been rejected (offically).

Email was sent to my secondary email address...so everyone make sure they check all emails listed in the APPIC application!

This happened to me too! It was sent to my school email address rather than the one I had included on APPIC.

I was lucky in that my research faculty member took maternity leave so I did nothing but number crunching for a semester and I was not doing any TA stuff...plus I received credit from my Master's so my class schedule wasn't so hectic...definitely would not recommend to anyone who has a full class load and research

I'm also curious about SF VA, since I haven't heard either way. Still holding out hope! Someone from my program interviewed there 2 years ago, and I seem to remember them being rather last-minute about it, but I can't say for sure. It's what I'm telling myself, at least. 🙂

I have a friend who's an extern at UCSD VA, so I'll ask her if she has any info re: rejections there.

I just want this wait to be over! 4 rejections, 2 interviews, and 18 (!) that I'm still waiting on.

I just received a strange email from the University of Oklahoma - it basically said they're not inviting me for an interview but that I'm still under consideration therefore I should still rank the site (they said I can rank any or all of their programs). What does this mean? (other than the obvious) - am I expected to call the program to speak to anyone (i.e., get some more information, any questions I may have answered, etc)? Or am I blindly expected to rank their site just based on their brochure? Did anybody else get this email? I wonder how many people they actually invite, versus how many people are "still under consideration but not invited"

It's happened in years past with various sites. My guess is that (and I don't say this in a mean-spirited way at all) your application didn't make their initial "cut" for an invite, but you were still competitive enough that they'd be ok with the idea of having you match there sans interview. So in a word, yes--it sounds like they're asking you to rank them (if you so choose) based on what you can learn about them through the brochure.

Email invitation-personalized
Track: VA Comprehensive Track

Applied: 10/28

Personalized email invitation for interview (dates are listed in their brochure, and they confirmed the date requested in my application). General Mental Health track.

I received this same email! Basically it means we are not their top choice, but we are still competitive enough that they will probably be ranking us, so we should rank them too. I actually emailed back the assistant since I applied to two tracks. She told me I was still under consideration for the neuropsych track, not the pediatric track. So if you have questions about which track to rank, you should contact her.

But yeah, we will be ranking this program "blind." So I will be ranking it below the others sites I interview at, but still ranking it nonetheless. Hope that helps.

Personalized interview invite for Community Healthlink today. Interview dates are 12/17 or 1/9.

According to SDN, they were there first site to send out invites, so definitely looks like they are doing rolling invitations...
