2013 APPIC Internship Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Personalized email invite from Ohio Psychology Internship, forensic track at 9:28pm, only one interview date offered - January 11th, but morning or afternoon times to choose from

Blank email with a word document attachment from NOPIP - Oklahoma Forensic Center, a rather generic invite asking to call them to choose from 2 interview dates - Jan 15th or 16th

the only 2 i got so far, and both today, so today was definitely a good day🙂 1 rejection, 17 more to go...

Good luck everyone!

I received a general email invite to interview for the Heartland Behavioral Health Track at the Ohio Psychology Internship.

There is an open house for the hospital offered on January 10 and the only date listed for the interview was January 11 at 8:30am.

Email invite asking what days I am available between 12/17 and 1/25.

I noticed that Lucile Packard/Stanford was added to the list. Does anyone know if their invites are rolling or if rejections have gone out?

Does anyone know whether the 12/13, 12/20 dates listed for Columbia/NY Presbyterian Child Track are for the interview itself or for a preliminary phone interview? In other words, does the preliminary phone interview happen at the time of the first phone call or do they just schedule it at that time for a later date. Please PM me if you feel more comfortable answering the question privately.

Does anyone know if sites really review applications in alphabetical order? If so, will people with last names later in the alphabet really just hear later?

How long do places wait before sending out rejections?

maybe I'm just being too optimistic.

Mine is scheduled for this week, in person. They notified me by phone. I didn't have or hear anything about a phone interview.

Track B- Coleman Professional Services/Summit Psychological Associates

received invitation for interview on 12/3

interview date: 1/18 (morning and afternoon times)

Has anyone who applied to Fort Worth ISD not heard back either way? I saw on the list that invitations and rejections were sent yesterday, but I didn't receive either.

Hi Everyone,

At the moment, most of you are patiently (anxiously?) awaiting word from sites regarding your interview status. You may have even heard that a few sites have already begun notifying applicants about interviews.

Before everyone on this list has a heart attack because a few people have reported hearing back from a site, let me state categorically that it is VERY EARLY FOR ANYONE TO BE HEARING BACK ON THEIR APPLICATIONS OR GETTING OFFERS FOR INTERVIEWS! Some application deadlines haven't even passed yet, much less have many sites had the opportunity to review materials and contact applicants to set up interviews.

So, if you haven't received any notification yet, all that means is that you are one of 4,000 other applicants who also have not yet received any communication from sites and who feel like they are the only one in North America who hasn't heard anything.

Remember that each APPIC-member site is required to list in their Directory information the date by which they have committed to notifying every applicant as to whether or not they are being interviewed. The purpose of that requirement is so you can know what to expect and when to expect it. Those are the dates that you should attend to, and you should not count on hearing anything prior to that date. APPIC recommends, but does NOT require, a December 15 notification date, which some sites use and others don't. Check the Directory to be sure.

If you want to make yourself really anxious for no good reason, you can: (a) wonder how each site notifies applicants (alphabetically? by date the application was received? by astrological sign?, etc.) and how you will fit in that process, (b) start worrying two weeks before the "interview notification date" in the Directory about why you haven't heard anything and then assume it must be bad news, and (c) assume that if a classmate hears from a site before you do, it means you're toast. All of these are tried and true methods of generating gobs of anxiety while waiting to hear from sites.

Seriously, go by the dates in the Directory, and assume you'll hear at 11:59pm on those dates and not a moment earlier. Will some notify you days earlier? Yes, but some won't. One year, I sent out my notifications the evening of my interview notification date, and I was surprised how many applicants told me that they had assumed they weren't getting an interview because they hadn't heard anything from me.

In the relatively infrequent event that you don't hear from a site by the end of that "interview notification date," you should call or e-mail the site the next morning to inquire about your status.

Thank you for sharing that much needed perspective!

I have not heard from Fort Worth either. My mentor is a current intern there and I believe that we may be on a wait list. Keep the faith!

Generic email rejection from Children's Hospital Colorado, 12/4. Hope others got better news.

Personal and brief email from the TD, requesting my availability between 12/17 and 1/25. Woot!🙂 (I applied to the Adult track)

Just got that email too. For anyone wondering, I applied to the ED track, but the email had no mention of any specific tracks.

That's funny. I bet Greg Kellin is a pretty funny person.

Thanks for the reply! That's kind of what I was thinking too. Good luck!

I received an invite for an interview at the Tuskegee VAMC, I emailed the training director with my rank ordered dates and preferences for interview but haven't heard back. I email him back on Friday, do I resend my email? call? I am getting nervous he didn't receive it. Has anyone else not heard back from them regarding a date?

I am interviewing for the child track on 12/13 and based on the email, it is for the actual interview. I have not had a preliminary phone interview from C/NYP. I think the 12/20 date is for the adult track.

They may be waiting on other responses from people, working out faculty schedules etc.. I wouldn't jump the gun just yet.

Sent from my EVO using SDN Mobile

I saw this on the acceptance list with dates. I assume it was PM'd to the moderator. Anyone know if this was an email or phone invite?

Invite received via mass email today. Applied to neuro track, most likely the day before the deadline. Email has a cool link where you sign in using your email as the username AND password (initial email was wrong for those of you having difficulties) and then select your preferred interview date. Dates are 1/7, 1/11, 1/14, 1/18.

Rejection from the McGuire VA (Richmond, Virginia) -- mass email. Fingers crossed for more good news...

Invite to Guidestone received today. Mass email that was somewhat personalized. Excited for this one!

Hi Everyone,
If you want to make yourself really anxious for no good reason, you can: (a) wonder how each site notifies applicants (alphabetically? by date the application was received? by astrological sign?, etc.) and how you will fit in that process, (b) start worrying two weeks before the "interview notification date" in the Directory about why you haven't heard anything and then assume it must be bad news, and (c) assume that if a classmate hears from a site before you do, it means you're toast. All of these are tried and true methods of generating gobs of anxiety while waiting to hear from sites.

We got this email last year as well, and I do agree that fixating on stuff like notification order (alphabetical, geographical, even track-based) just creates extra stress. For that matter, I think that actively following which sites have sent invites/rejections is unnecessarily stressful, at least for people like me. If I could do it over again, I'd just wait for information to arrive by email.

However, since few of us are applying to internship in a vacuum, realistically, we are going to hear about sites that have started to send out invites. Unless you decide that you're not going to communicate with your cohort for 6 weeks, you're going to hear that someone else got an invite from a site that has yet to contact you. And at least in my experience, when someone in my program/someone on SDN had heard from sites and I hadn't, without exception every one of those sites went on to reject me days or weeks later. I get that some programs do rolling invites, and I know it's possible to get an invite after you've given up hope. However, I found it very invalidating to keep hearing iterations of don't make assumptions, it's not over yet, maybe they haven't gotten around to inviting everyone, your invite could come next week! when that did not fit with my experience. I don't want to squash hopes - I know that staggered invites do happen - but the implication giving up on a site that's already sent invites means that you're catastrophizing, jumping to conclusions, being too anxious, etc., just rubs me the wrong way.

FWIW, I matched to an awesome site, and I'm definitely happy with my internship experience. But rejections sting, and it's okay to feel let down when they happen.

Haven't seen this yet, but got a personalized email invite to LSU Health Sciences Center (in New Orleans) yesterday. I applied to the Adult track and the dates are 1/4 and 1/11.

Personalized invite to Connecticut Valley Hospital - River Valley Services. Email received around 10am, interview is scheduled for 01/09. 01/04 and 01/07 were the other options.

Penn Hospital
It was an email, but I think they are slowly rolling them out.

same exact experience, and was wondering the same thing...

Generic rejection email.

(P.S. I now have answers on all of mine. Glad the waiting game is over!!!)

If you are not picky about who you rent from, I would recommend using Priceline. Not to sound like a commercial, but I use them all the time for rentals cars and typically save about 50%.

Received 12/4:
Personalized email invitation to interview at the University of Manitoba (Adult Stream). Interview date Jan 24th.

Mass email rejection from Center for Behavioral Medicine in Kansas City, MO.

Keep up the hope everyone!

personalized email invite. days for interview: Jan 4, 11, 18, 25!

First one. Couldnt be more delighted!

Rejection from Patton State Hospital, neuropsych track -- mass email.

Has anyone heard back from the Charleston Consortium for any of the tracks other than Child and Neuro? I'm still waiting and trying to figure out what that means. Given that they offer December interview dates, I would think they would want to notify applicants sometime soon.

Hunter Holmes McGuire VA general invite for interview via nonpersonalized email.
Dates are Jan 4, 7, 11.
And apparently there's an additional track for primary care now, as well. Not sure if that went out on match-news or not, and who all can apply for it.
