Oh! Well the rejection thread doesn't say anything about the peds position so I wasn't sure if anybody has gotten notice from that track. They clearly want to keep me waiting! Definitely not expecting an invite though!! Lol

I am pretty sure my strong fit and applying across the country to places that are an amazing fit helped me. and i worked hard to make sure that my app was less 4 500 wd essays and a 750 wd cover letter but one 2750 word essay in 5 parts, if that makes sense. overall I got rejections from more generalist places. I also took a gamble, in addition to communicating the fit consistently throughout all of my materials, I also went personal and really showed who I am, in my essay 1 especially. I was afraid doing so, since I was applying to many amc's and VA's, but I really wanted to know if sites wanted "me". Like i said it was a gamble, but it paid off. it makes me feel better ging into my interviews that i can really be myself, and since i have done well for invites, it makes me feel better about rejections, because i really want to go to places that want "me". I also applied to a large number of sites. I may have gotten too many interviews, but my goodness how can you know how this will turn out? I was applying to mostly sites no one in my program had ever applied to, and have a unique interest/specialization that i don't think others in my program had before, and went personal. like coloradocutter said, i also consulted with my partner and family, and we agreed this is my decision, in terms of number of places. it is a shame i felt like i was playing roulette in vegas when i sent my appi out after 5 years of training. at this point i have lucked out, and i use that word luck consciously.

Kyril, I'm going to disagree with you that it was a gamble to write about who you really are. Isn't that what sites want? Why would they want the same old cliche statements? The top 10% of people who apply to clinical/counseling programs get in. Not all of those 10% make it to the point of applying for internship. Internship sites are left with choosing the best of the best and there probably isn't a massive gap between the top students and the middle students and bottom students (compared to people with only bachelor's or something), so I think essays can be an important way to help yourself stand out. You stand out by really personalizing them.

I was wondering if anyone had heard from Children's Hospital and Research Centre Oakland - Psychiatry program. I know that the Beh-Ped program sent out invites and rejections, but not sure about the psychiatry program. Thanks

I'm just curious, what is everyone's thoughts on contacting sites you haven't heard from? I am still waiting on 5 sites (some of which have sent out invites, rejections or both and some that no one on this thread has heard from yet). I am planning on waiting until Monday and then contacting them, I was just wondering what everyone else was planning on doing?

I am still waiting on 3 sites... and if I don't hear from them before tomorrow and they disregard their own stated deadline it will make me think a little less of them as a site. Is that wrong, anyone else feel that way? We were given a deadline and adhere to that deadline... period, or we were shut out of applying, why are the standards different for sites.

I agree, although I suppose I am a little bit more understanding because some sites did extend their deadlines because of Sandy, but I wish they would just notify us that they would be letting us know one way or the other later. So frustrating!!!

I agree with you definitely, especially after it has worked out well. At the time it felt risky, but it paid off and I will encourage others to do the same in the future.

Someone in my program got a St. Luke's adult track rejection via email a few days ago. Apparently it went to her spam folder. I am still waiting to hear either way about their child track.

I was wondering the same thing. 3 of the sites I really need answers. 1 sites I plan on taking a phone interview anyway....but I intend to book flights on Tuesday. If I wait any longer...I wont be able to afford to go to ANY of my interviews....wish they were more considerate...🙁

Trenton Psychiatric Hospital has their notification deadline set for December22. With Hurricane Sandy having affected that area, I wouldn't expect to hear from then until closer to that deadline or on that day.

Overjoyed to receive a personalized invitation from Center for Behavioral Medicine sent late last night. After receiving a rejection ages ago, I had written them off, but they changed the format of the program (which makes it even more up my alley) & changed their mind! YES!

It was a generic email with a word doc attached named "invitation to interview"
There are no formal dates for interviewing- director requests that you contact the administrative assistant to arrange a visit at some point in January.

I got an invite from Oakland last year - didn't come until the 21st...just fyi. They typically take longer than the BP department...if you get it, send me a PM and I can give you some info about their interview process.

What exactly did your email say... I got an email that said "We regret that we will be unable to extend you an invitation to interview at this time. Unfortunately, we will be able to interview only a portion of the highly qualified individuals who applied to the program this year. Should we find that we are able to accommodate additional interviews, we will contact you to make these arrangements."

Was yours the same? I am trying to figure out if I should even hold my breathe and if there is a more enthusiastic email out there then I wont hold any hope...

Mine said this: "We have completed the review of application materials and have issued the initial set of interview invitations. Although we were not able to include you in the initial interview list, you are on a very short list of alternates at this time. Should an interview opening become available, we will contact you to see if you remain interested in scheduling an interview at the Memphis VAMC."

from what we were told at our school two students ranked everywhere and ended up matching at places they received rejections. Later on they were told by their sites they had a wait list and both were on it. They ranked all the candidates they interviewed plus their wait list. It doesn't cost anymore to rank places, so I guess rank places just in the off chance they rank you. However, the fact they said you are basically wait listed is even more positive.
