Hi everyone!

I'm looking into UCLA SOD for next year and I had a few quick questions about the workload there, I really appreciate any advice:

1) Do you have any substantial free/down time to do non-class/lab activities? Does UCLA have any sort of half-days like UCSF?

2) So is it feasible to do research in the first two years at all? To do any major club involvement? Also when would you even fit in externships?! The workload seems so intimidating...

3) Lastly, are the dental students essentially getting a sort of a med school education as well? I am under the impression that many UCLA SOD classes are the Med School classes with an emphasis in dentistry. How true is this? Am I making up stuff?!

Thank you everyone in advance. This is really helpful info 🙂

Here are some quick answers:

1.) Substantial free time.....No. Usually at least one day each week during first and second year you have a half day off. But this assuming you actually attend class......

2.) Yes you can do research or clubs or whatever else you wanna do. There is always time for this stuff, you just need to be good at time management, which many are pretty bad at. You can do externships during your breaks which usually 2 weeks long after each quarter. So I hope you like the idea of working during your few breaks when you end up getting ready to do these.....

3.) Definitely not a med school-like education and no med school classes.
