2014-2015 APPIC (internship) interview thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Invite to FCI Terminal Island - 12/5
Rejection from FCC Petersburg - 12/5
Seriously? I thought once we "passed" the federal employment eligibility process, we were automatically moving on to interviews. Did I interpret this wrong (from the initial "invitation to proceed" from Petersburg): "Upon successful completion of the usajobs application between November 10th and November 18th, you will receive further information regarding the next steps in the process in early December (e.g., potential interview dates, Human Resources paperwork, and travel information)." Now I'm crazy paranoid cause I thought an interview was basically guaranteed at this point.

Long Beach VA
Mass email invite on 12/5
Interview dates January 7th, 12th,14th, and 21th
Be prepared to list them 4-6 faculty you want to interview with.

You are guaranteed an interview. I completed the BOP app for TI, but just barely got a rejection from Petersburg today. They were the last ones to send rejections.

If we don't here from the site by the notification date, do we assume were not in running any longer?

First time applying so apologize if it's a dumb question lol

No, I think the general consensus is that you should call or email a day or two after their notification date to ask about your status.

I'm itching to know what my status is with Children's National Medical Center and Phoenix Children's Hospital (peds neuro). Haven't heard anything from either, and I know that for both interviews have already been received. I anticipate hearing the usual -- be patient! it's not over! -- but just in case, has anyone received rejections from either place, or heard anything about whether they do rolling invites? I'm mentally kind of crossing them off my list.

Don't mind me...just waitin' for some answers...

Today was not a good day. 4 rejections, & 1 interview (all posted already on here.)

Just got a Palo Alto VA rejection. Trying not to panic. 🙁 I did get an interview today that I'm excited about, so I guess I need to be thankful for what I get and not what I don't get.

Congrats to those of you that are doing awesome, & hang in there to the rest of you.

Oooooh. So, if I'm understanding you correctly, you did not hear from Petersburg before the 11/10-18 window so only clicked on sending it to TI, and now you're just hearing from Petersburg today that it was a rejection?

Just because you are invited to complete the Federal Employment Eligibility Process doesn't mean you automatically get to interview. It is a way to see if you can pass the federal background check, follow directions precisely, and if you are identified as a "Best Qualified Applicant."

I was also told I did not meet the minimum requirements after this process.

Same here.

Yeah, the long-awaited UCSD email hasn't come despite the deadline. I guess they have 4 1/2 more hours before being delinquent. UAB did the same thing, over the weekend as well.

Guh.

I took my angst out on the uncooperative American Airlines customer relations rep. But my final email was SO much more appropriate than the first draft. Still worked in a dig about Southwest being better. 🙂

Right, and I was told I passed so I figured it would go to an interview from there. I'm not sure how it would fall through at that point but perhaps so.

So, thought: we may be on interviews together. Does anyone want to think up a way to identify fellow SDNers? A special birdcall? A username on the name tag under our real names? An elaborate call-and-response/semaphore/handshake routine?

Also after Dec 16, do we each want to list our interviews and dates so we know when we may meet? I guess I just like y'all. I can see that some people may want to remain anonymous.

Thoughts on that?

I'm a big fan of interpretive dance routines- I imagine that we'll recognize each other from the stage of our introduction dance wherein we feign being hunched over a computer, desperately refreshing our emails.

I'm happy to list mine, or maybe we can get another thread going for that for people who are interested?

Congratulations on this! Do they interview on odd dates during the weekend, or is this just odd dates during the week?

Thanks VERY much for any insight!

I didn't inquire about the weekends. I don't have any VA sites that are interviewing on the weekend, so I'm pretty sure they aren't doing them here. Especially since the interview consists of 5-7 individual interviews.

San Francisco University, Counseling & Psychological Services (no tracks)
Invitation received 12/5 by personalized email
Interview dates: Jan 8th, 9th, 12th, 13th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd

UC Berkeley, Counseling & Psychological Services (no tracks)
Rejection received 12/5 by personalized email
TD kindly offered to provide feedback regarding applications after Match Day

The rejections always hurt, but getting an invite on the same day sure helps to ease the pain! So far I've only heard from 4 out of 10 sites, and the waiting isn't getting any easier. I know some people who avoid SDN for various reasons, but this forum has really helped me stay optimistic. I feel like we're all in this together! It's comforting to know that there are other people out there who can relate to getting heart palpitations anytime you get a call from an unfamiliar number.

Has anyone heard anything (rejection or acceptance) from the following sites?

Also, has anyone got a rejection from these sites (I haven't but am expecting to):
Maryland VA/UMD (neuro)
