2014-2015 APPIC (internship) interview thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm in the same boat. I really want to visit their site, but have already committed to another site for that day (and bought a non-refundable plane ticket). Now I want a cookie... or 12. 🙁

Anyone know how much attendance at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA open house affects their rankings?

I'm up to two cookies so far today. I'm starting to run out. Fingers crossed my clothing will still fit after this process is all said and done.

I'll post as soon as Cleveland VA responds to my email asking how to proceed since I won't be able to attend... and pilfer their cookies. And let's be honest, since it is an open house, I bet there would be many types of cookies from which we could choose.

I applied there and did not get an invite... so at least you guys have the option! A postdoc at my current practicum site went there for internship and he did not attend the open house because he had another interview that same day, but he ranked them as #1 and matched there. So the open house really is optional.

Ditto...thought I would be a great fit there!

Mass rejection email received just now from the Vanderbilt/VA Consortium. No track specified but I applied to the BMED track.

Onward and upward!

We've all heard the admonitions about not limiting oneself "too much" geographically and how that can really impact our likelihood of receiving interviews and matching. No one has really ever defined to me what "too much geographical limitation" is, and I'm starting to worry I may have done this to myself. Obviously, trying to remain in-state or picking only one or two states to apply to is too limiting, but where do we draw the line? I applied to 21 sites in 7 states and I'm wondering if that's considered "too limited?" What do you all think in terms of what is too limited?

Me, too. I applied to Adult Psychiatry, Psychological and Counseling Center, and VA General Track. Probably my most disappointing rejection. Thankful for other great options, but going to feel the sting from this one for a little while.

I also got an invite to open house for the Stokes Cleveland VA -- I applied to the health track.

Also received an invite to the Roudebush Indianapolis VA -- they sent out invites a while ago and I didn't get one at that time, but got one today!
Tack: Clinical Health psychology
Dates: 1/9 and 1/16
Also gave the option of a phone interview (which is what I will have to do).

Good luck everyone!!!!!

So question about UF Neuro Track and Charleston Consortium Neuro Track: we know invited were sent out in November. Does anyone know from last year whether these sites ever get back to you? Last year did they finally sent rejections or did they invite people at the last minute?

Kinda REALLY would like to hear from them. But I know I can't enquire about my status just yet since both posted a notification date 12/15.

Thought? Ideas? Experiences?

Thanks guys.

I can let you know how the cookies are so you can take that into consideration when you rank them. 😉

As far as what to do, my DCT encouraged us to reach out and see how else we can connect when we can't attend, which it sounds like you already did. Asking questions, setting up phone conversations, etc.

Does anyone know if the American Lakes VA will give any feedback about an applicant's status? In their brochure they state that they have an optional open house on January 7th, and that interviews are not part of the selection process. I didn't see any posted notifications for them in last year's thread on SDN. In the APPIC directory, they list 0 as the number of applicants invited for interviews each year. I really like the site and would enjoy learning more about it, but I don't want to spend money on travel, or schedule other interviews around it, unless I know something about my chances of actually matching.

Two people from my program interviewed/went to the open house last year. The site will let you know if they will be ranking you before the open house.

I think "too much" is applying only in your state, "spmewhat limited" is applying to only nearby states. I think 7 states is plenty.

VAMHCS/UMB Psychology Internship Consortium rejection mass e-mail, no track indicated but mine was child OP

I ate most of a bag of chips ahoy in the last week. I'm reluctant to bake my usual line-up of Christmas cookies. Not fitting in my suit is a literal possibility for me at the moment and I think hundreds of cookies (and dough!) around the house just might be problematic, lol.

I gained like three pounds during the process, beween the stress eating and the airport/hotel/restaurant food during my travels.

....what.

Dear Applicants,

We would like to extend our deepest apologies and regrets. A significant administrative error occurred where notifications to applicants were not appropriately processed. As such, it appears several applicants received an invitation to interview for one of our internship positions; however, many invitations were sent in error. You will each receive a corrected e-mail within the next hour. Again, we are deeply sorry for this inconvenience, especially given the high anticipation that occurs within this time of the application process.

Warmest regards,

The Village for Families and Children

STOP IT. I didn't even apply to this site. You have absolutely GOT to be kidding me. I. Can't. Even.

I got that too. I'm so upset, anxious, and pissed off! How could they be so disorganized? We've all worked so hard and put so much money into this process...This is just inappropriate and wrong. It's been a few hours since I had gotten my acceptance and i was about to book my plane flight...

I literally laughed out loud when I saw this email at the pure ridiculousness of it. Did this really even happen? Makes me not want to interview there even if my invitation was accurate.

I'd have very very strong countertransference feelings and would seriously wonder about wanting to go for an interview

Me too 🙂 are you going to reach out to the administrative assistant directly to discuss scheduling or did it seem like we should wait until they contact us again?

Still nothing from Richmond for me or a friend who also applied. I wish they wouldn't have sent the e-mail telling us they would notify on Monday. It makes their delay even more nerve-wracking!
YES AGREED! I was actually talking to my supervisor about this...the fact that they sent an email indicating their apologies about "stringing us along" and yet they....continue to string us along....

Something like this happened last year at a site that I interviewed at. Honestly, I think that at this point, their options are 1. try to accommodate everyone, even those they weren't planning to interview, or 2. do what they are doing. Honestly, in the end, option 2 is better because if you weren't going to be interviewed originally, you would probably end up low ranked on their list, and would have spent unnecessary time and money. I agree that it is an unfortunate mistake, and totally understand why you would be feeling all of those things.
