2014-2015 APPIC (internship) interview thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Good point- I think I also skewed the data by reading about those who didn't match in last year's thread- they seemed more open to sharing interview numbers at that point.
I remember last year being really discouraged by people who had a ridiculously high number of interviews, who I later found out were matchx2 people. They have more hours, more experience, and better application skills since they've done it before. Makes sense. The "average" last year SEEMED to be around 5 interviews (again, this is just based on people who shared and who were not matchx2 people). But in all seriousness, the numbers are all speculation. Either way, I know people who had one interview and matched, and a few people who had 7ish and didn't match. It's all about the sites you're interviewing at, the way you present yourself, and ... honestly...luck. I had an okay number of interviews last year, but only got interviews at places that took about one or two people a track. I may have interviewed well, but luck was not on my side.

Alright. Officially rejected from UF Neuro - makes no sense to me why - I can bet I'm a very good fit for them. But this concludes my waiting game and I am now all interviews and dissertation.

Four left still, two probable rejections, but two haven't had any activity yet. Hard to stay positive especially since it's my second time around, but it's not over until it's over.

None of this makes any sense to me. I got UF neuro and I'm definitely a good fit for them, but got rejected from Rusk, an even better fit with them. I'm convinced the invites aren't based on numbers or fit....I think they just toss the applications up in the air and then randomly pick up 40 applications and invite those people.

Wondering how late to wait before sending an inquiry email for sites with notifications today...it is after 5pm EST.

Maybe it's all the sugar I've been eating that's rotting my brain...but... HUH?! lol
Ok, I get how this works for 3 applicants and 3 programs (sorta), but for thousands of applicants and hundreds of programs?! Yikes. I'm just glad that I don't need to understand Match in order *to* match.

I think it's rather complicated but it doesn't really matter too much how well you understand it. The main point is rank based on how you really feel and hope for the best. Also, the order than you rank doesn't determine whether you match, just where you match. Regardless of how much sense it makes, it still feels very mysterious and worse than playing the lottery.

Still waiting on Maine VA and Memphis VA (Neuro track).

My roommate just got an invite from Maine VA, not sure of the details (I applied to all child/adolescent sites and she is VA/military focused) but wanted to pass that along for those who were waiting

Are some of them at least phone/skype interviews? I also remember you saying a handful were in December, so hopefully that helps cut down on the January insanity.

A few are phone/Skpe which helps, but I have two crazy weeks in January in which I have an interview almost every week day (luckily on the same coast). Hopefully I will match this year. I am still nervous about it.

Ya. Indeed.

still waiting here.... my spreadsheet says notification is 12/20.... but I made that in a state of lack of sleep and stress, so i could be wrong... I hate waiting. The literal worst.

No, you're absolutely right about 12/20. I was just hoping that maybe they'd send out notifications earlier since invites for other AB tracks went out yesterday...this is the last site that I'm waiting on--please hurry!

I just had to decline an invitation to Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health (Ohio) due to scheduling difficulties. I know there is a wait list so go luck if you applied to this site and were on the wait list!

And BOOM! Rejection from American CC (as expected). Email was alright, but I really hate it when they describe (generically) why we weren't selected. Mass email but with email addresses revealed. Cookie time!

Yepp! I was on that rejection email also... About to grab a macadamia nut-chocolate chip cookie!

That's how I am, too! At least the crazy 2 weeks part. I bet it's the weeks of the 5th and 12th cause that seems to be every site's fetish. Definitely glad you got some phone/Skype options!

All sites heard from! 11 interviews, 5 rejections in total. Still waiting on 3 sites to confirm interview dates.. really, really hoping they can give me my first options or who knows what I'll do.

Good luck for the rest of the day to everyone!

11 - WOW:snaphappy:

I'm still waiting on 2 sites but I am assuming they will both be rejections. Has anyone received a formal rejection from Denver Health (I know the invites went out last week) and has anyone NOT obtained a snail mail rejection from Northwestern (I know the invites went out several weeks ago)? Thanks in advance!

What are people's guesses as to why sites do multiple waves of rejections? I am waiting to hear from three sites that have already sent mass invites, as well as at least two waves of mass rejections.

Site: Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital
Mass rejection via email

Oh well. Only one more to hear from and they won't get back to me until late Dec.

Has anyone received a rejection from Sharp Healthcare in San Diego? It looks like invites went out this morning, but I haven't heard anything yet. Hope there was a lot of good news delivered to you all today!

Maybe not! I had 2 sites get to me already and they had 12/19 and 12/20 notification dates. I think they give those as worse case scenarios. Of course now that I've said this you'll probably hear back way late anyway.

How do you carry a bottle of water? Just in your hand? I am having a 4.5 hrs interview(s) tomorrow, without food being provided in between. It's gonna be over lunch hours and I want to make sure that I have something to drink. I will carry a map with CV etc. and just now wonder how to solve the water bottle issue...suggestions?

Is this a serious question?

I stuck a bottle of water in my purse last year. Not sure if you are male or female, so this may or may not be helpful!
