2014-2015 Panic Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So, as the cycle winds down, what is everyone's Plan B in case they don't get in this year?

I think I am going to find a job as a scribe or something else medically relevant. I've GOT to quit my research job. I don't think I can take another year of this. And seeing how I am only on one waitlist, it's looking very likely that this will be the case. If I can't miraculously get off the waitlist, I really hope this next app cycle goes better for me. And good luck to everyone else too!

Just want to chime in and let you guys now I just got "unjected" and put on waitlist by a school that have previously rejected me post-interview. Don't get your hopes up if you got rejected yet but anything can happen I guess....
Say what?? Duke is having a really bad admissions staff year. It was on my list to apply this next cycle, but I having second thoughts about it.

lol Duke

4 WL, 1 pending decision (likely to be a WL), and 3 post-interview rejections. I've been trying to stay calm throughout this cycle, but I think it's officially time to panic!

Just got another WL q__q. So far, 5 WL out of 6 interviews.

3 WL here and I am really nervous about it. Any advice at all to cope with the panic while waiting for some WL movement?

This is my 3rd cycle and I've had 2 interviews resulting in 1 WL (since October 15th) and 1 "hold for final decision" which is basically the WL before the WL.

My advice for coping (which is a daily struggle and something I haven't quite mastered yet) is to realize and accept that whether you get in or you don't, the time will pass. Would you rather look back on these weeks (months?) and have wasted them being anxious/panicky, or doing things you enjoy and having a good time? I made the decision in January that I would feel really stupid if I wasted six months worrying about something (mostly) out of my control at this point, only to be accepted. It's definitely a decision I force myself to make each day when I check my email/inbox, but making the decision to go out of my way to try new things and do things I won't be able to do when I hypothetically get into med school has helped and I highly recommend it.

Thanks for your advice! It really puts things in perspective and certainly makes a lot of sense. I'll go and enjoy these months before (hypothetically) med school starts; and if I don't get accepted at least I enjoyed that time 🙂

2 waitlists...1 more school to hear from (post interview decision)...lots of rejections! about time I joined this thread!lol

I've officially heard back from all schools and now have 5 WL's and a bunch of rejections. Really hoping for some WL movement next Friday.

Super stoked about getting into two schools! OSU and Penn. Any thoughts on which to choose? 🙂

Two acceptances?? Your are not near the level of panic of 4 WL! lol
Anyway, I would recommend you to list pros and cons of each school and compare them. Keep in mind money and if you see yourself being happy there. It helped me to decide to which of the 4 WL I should send the Letter of Intent.

joining this thread! 3 II, 3 waitlists.
I hope I hear something soon :/

I almost think you're trolling... I actually think you're trolling... I hope you are. Come on dude this thread is not the place for that.

To everyone on waitlists that hasn't been accepted yet, I truly wish the best for you all, and I hope you all get good news soon with the deadline coming up!

I'm pretty sure he means Penn State.
Sorry, did not look into his situation further and assumed he meant U Penn (I thought most people differentiate Penn and Penn State that way?)

Everyone differentiates it that way. (Some say UPenn to provide even more clarity.)

How come there is like no WL movement happening? I expected that tons of people would get WL acceptances on and after May 1

Many schools did not prepare their financial aid offices for the earlier traffic day. Even directly accepted students have had relatively little time to consider or compare their choices. Thus, I predict a slower uptick in WL movement that should pick up next week.

Also May 1 was a Friday and it's still Monday - I'd imagine adcoms need a few weekdays to figure out how many seats they now have open and who to take and all that

Is there no waitlist movement post april 30 pick date??
Of course there is waitlist movement, that initial week is probably when the most waitlist movement happens. How much waitlist movement happens between each school is school-dependent. Some schools may only need to take 5 people off, some schools may take 50 or even more.

Is anyone else reapplying and planning on taking the 2015 MCAT? If so, do you have any recommendations for which study materials are better? (princeton review, kaplan, examkrackers...). Thanks!
