I doubt it, most schools specify that they want inorganic/general chem, then organic and some want biochem too but I doubt that will substitute biochem for general. Although it will look good if you did good in an upper level chemistry.

Actually... Biochem does substitute for general chem. But obviously you cannot use a class for two requirements.

Ideally you should check with the schools, but biochem is if I remember correct classified as physical chemistry. Which admittedly frankly does confound me as it is clearly an organic chemistry field that uses physical chemistry concepts. But, hey, it's AACOMAS that decides stuff,not me.

Right, but it is recognized as a physical chemistry course. And as such along with other upper level physical chemistry courses ( Pchem, inorganic, etc) can substitute for general chemistry as per the AACOMAS guidelines.
 
Just score a 24 on my MCAT. Definitely retaking, but I guess I'm an underdog for now.

Advisors are not expected to know the pre-requisites for every school, that would be the pre-med student's responsibility.

I actually called cusom and it will for org chem 2 I decided to take it alone
 
Hi all!
I was an underdawg in the 2013-2014 cycle but am posting to give you hope! I scored in the upper 20's on MCAT and had a 3.5. I did apply early and broadly. I had three M.D. interviews. 2 D.O. interviews and one D.O. acceptance. I CANNOT take the MCAT again, just can't... so I'm going with my D.O. acceptance which I'm pretty happy with! Keep the faith.... it is a very nerve wracking process LONGGGGGGGG process, but there are schools out there for everyone. Good luck!

So you guys are kind of freaking me out with the C- not being acceptable. I have a single C- in one of my O chem labs, which was a one unit class. I have only 8 units of O chem but I do have a Biochemistry class and a Toxicology class. Is this seriously going to keep me from being looked at? It seems that this might be kind of school specific, am I right in thinking this? I have already hit the send button so I can't go back and add in an O chem class for this fall or next spring. What should I do?

Hello everyone, I just joined this thread today, I wanted to get everyones advice. I took the mcat twice, 10/7/10 the first time and 10/6/10 the second (I know it sucks I went down, especially in verbal). 3.62 cgpa/3.52 gpa. I am worried that even with the schools who "take the highest sitting," they will see the downward trend, and on top of that the 7 isnt too great either. Hopefully they look at english and humanities grades, as I have gotten all A's in them as well as a humanitites prof LOR.

None of that signifies a death sentence. For your reassurance, I was an underdog last cycle. Accepted even with my second MCAT having a 3 pt drop (I tried to reschedule it but was a day after the deadline. So it was either take the test or eat the 300 dollars.)

I'm not positive. AACOMAS had sent me an email saying they would send my app out the 3rd week of June and then when I looked yesterday it said they had released it on the 14th, but I can't view it so I'm not sure if it's really sent yet.

I got the 3rd week of June email also. I wouldnt worry though, supposedly were still SUPER early for osteopathic.

I agree. The overall SDN 'mantra' has been one of negativity. So I'm very happy I found this thread, best one out there. If you're passionate about something such as going into medicine, I believe that reveals more than a single number. But that's just my feeble minded pre med self saying that 😛

Well, darn... I wish they would count as grade replacements because I tool Biochem 1 & 2 (4500 &4510), two semester sequence and made A in both, but made a C and a B- in or go sequence (3000 sequence)

I am taking biochem in the fall and are you applying to cusom I wish you the best in the cycle
 
Might be submitting my application by mid July. Been busy and haven't been able to get around to it. Still unsure if I am applying this year.
