I received the confirmation email last Monday, and am still waiting. I've heard they're quite stingy with their secondaries, so we're probably going through a seriously thorough screen.

I'd love to go here, though!

Does anyone know how the screening process at this school works? is it holistic or based off of numbers alone? i'm OOS so that's another reason why im wondering.

Looking at the class photos, this school does not seem to have had any /many black or URM members. Does anyone have an idea about why they think this is?

That's the same email everyone got, I think.

It's been a week since I received mine, but I'm not holding out hope (just because the chances of getting into any one school are pretty dreary).

I got the same e-mail a week ago as well. A friend of mine is matriculating at VTC in August and he mentioned that they screen fairly heavily throughout each step of the application process; also, the first secondary received post from last years thread was July 12th, so its likely that we have a little more waiting to do.

Ah, that's good. Not that my hopes went any higher, but I'm back to zen.

LOL you're not joking, I just looked them up on the MSAR and they had NO BLACK KIDS in their last class...

I'm hesitant to submit, it doesn't look like they've had any ever.... I don't want to be alone.

But maybe I'll have a better chance at getting in?

You and me both bud. It's funny that I got this school's secondary before Howard's.....

Woops, sorry guys false alarm, I have a couple other VA schools and got a little confused.

+? on the secondary. Also from the website:
Phase II: Secondary Application
The decision to send a secondary application invitation to an applicant will reflect the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine's commitment to attracting a diverse body of learners who will likely achieve academic success in the rigorous academic setting of medical school, while experiencing further growth in other important aspects of professionalism. Holistic reviews of each application will be made before making a decision about whether or not to invite a secondary application. Applicants will be required to submit a $50 non-refundable application fee along with their secondary application.

Students who are invited to submit an online secondary application will be notified by e-mail, and provided a link to access the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine's secondary application.

VTCSOM will be seeking students who are interested in making contributions to greater society through a life-long career of inquiry, including the practice of evidence-based medicine, clinical and basic science research, and scholarship. Applicants who have experience in inquiry, research, scholarship, innovation, or leadership are encouraged to apply.

Secondary received here too!!

YAYAYAYAYAYAY! So excited for this school.

I have a very strong research background (first author on a recent paper and extensive community service in the Lyme circles), so my guess this attracted them?

In the midst of all my secondaries, I didn't even realize vtech screened so competitively. Pretty excited about that! Now, to not change their minds about me... 😉
