2014 Scramble Support

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There's some surprising programs on the list! Good luck guys! 😀

Wow, I keep scrolling and really shocked by some places that didn't match.

I would email them. I'm sure they're busy trying to go through this process too, I wouldn't phone them at this moment.

Hey guys,

I guess I was confused about the post-match process but I didn't realize you needed an applicant code & password to see the list! I thought anyone could view the list since anyone can participate in post-match...

I don't know if there's any way someone would be willing to post the list or let me know whats open in Miami, FL?

Thanks,

Last year a lot of places filled their open spots before they were removed from the list- so if you hear of any positions filling up (either you or a friend or the pharmacy rumor mill) PLEASE post it! It will save lots of people time and money 🙂

Oh and the password is your same password for what you used to submit your rankings. But miami area was just 1 spot at south miami hospital. There's a spot at memorial regional in hollywood, fl and 1 spot at broward health in ft lauderdale too

You have to pay and register to have access to the list. That's why you're unable to see it.

Any chance someone can post what's available for PGY-2 Administration?

Thanks

Thanks! Should I email them now or wait a little longer? Also, should I submit a letter of intent or just CV?

If you're going to send anything (which you might not want to), I'd just send CV.

I could find my specific question regarding scrambling in previous posts, so I'll try here. If we are deciding to scramble, we can reuse materials from the original MATCH through PhORCAS… specifically for letters of recommendation, is there any way we (or PhORCAS staff) can change the title of the letter submitted? They have the names of the individual site already in the title. Or will programs not see the uploaded letter little when they receive it? Thanks

EDIT NEVERMIND! Figured out you can reuse your old letters of reference as long as the content is a general letter. Programs don't see the title of the reference if anyone was wondering

If I email a program in regards to interest in the program, should I expect a response?

Probably not. My site scrambled a couple years ago and it was truly a scramble. I was flooded with emails immediately after the match. I called or emailed the candidates we were interested in. When we decided on a candidate I did email those I had contacted to let them know we had chosen someone else.

Good luck

Thank you for your response. How long did you wait to contact the candidates that you were interested in?

I still can't decide if I'm going to scramble ahhhhh. I feel like I should feel worse about not matching than I do. Maybe it just hasn't hit yet

I prob will send out at least one to a program I was originally interested in but did not end up applying

Edit: really thought hard about and I'm not going to scramble, gonna work for local grocery chain. Best of luck to everyone!

Pretty quickly, same day for sure. Then we had phone interviews the next day and decided the day after that. We didn't do any further onsite interviews because I was about to go into labor so we wanted to make a decision ASAP.

Things are different with Phorcas. Applicants can't submit until Monday. Many programs honor the moratorium and wait the week to offer spots.

I think I applied to 6 last year if I remember correctly.

Yeah, I was going to say that every place I've been e-mailing or calling, the program directors are all honoring the "wait til Monday" response. Some of them are taking names though. I think this year's scramble process has changed in favor of the programs so they can sit around and be choosy.

Hey question! if you scramble to the same place you once interviewed at due and they give you a second interview what do you think they will ask?

Did you not rank them or did they not rank you? If you ranked them and there is an open spot, that means they didn't rank you. If you didn't rank them and there is an open spot that looks bad...ie why didn't you rank them in the first place?

i did rank them. 🙁

i did rank them. 🙁

A program in my area had scramble spots last year and ended up picking someone that they had interviewed but did not rank. The program has scramble spots again this year, so it might be that some programs don't rank as many candidates.

I love reading the advice before and after rank day. "Don't rank a program if you can't see yourself spending a year as a resident there," becomes "Y U NO RANK ANYONE?"

"If you have to scramble, don't bother applying anywhere you already applied but weren't ranked," becomes "you know, I'd probably still consider applying."

😉

It's always going to be people with different opinions though, as long as that same person is consistent. 😛

I appreciate the nature of this grace period during the scramble (not allowing applications until Monday), but the follow-on period is kinda free-form. The earliest a program is supposed to offer you the position is the next Monday, but I'm sure there will be some hair-pulling when programs make job offers on completely different timelines (next Monday versus mid-April, etc).

I can tell you that the networking has already begun and started as soon as that list was posted. If you're waiting til Monday to contact places, I think you'll be too late to the game at a number of them.

Official apps can't be submitted but with ~1500 people and 222 spots, the sites are going to be overwhelmed, especially the good ones.

I interviewed with a program last year where the director told me "Following the interviews, if we like all the candidates equally and can't differentiate between them, we won't rank ANY of the candidates." I kid you not. That program didn't match a resident last year, and I can't help but wonder if this is why! He also stated during my interview that if they don't match a resident and someone that they interviewed is on the scramble list, they would contact that person. I know that most organizations do NOT operate in this manner, but I thought it was an interesting ranking philosophy. I matched at a place that I ranked higher, so I never found out what happened here.

I definitely say get your name out there and show them you're interested. I didn't really do that last year, but I ended up getting 2 interviews. 1 place I did contact because I heard about the position from a preceptor, the other I didn't contact at all. I just submitted an application through Phorcas and waited. I ended up getting the position that I didn't contact, lol.

One place I spoke to (and then got the same response via email) seemed pretty set in stone that they didn't want any contact outside of PhORCAS. I was a little thrown by that.

Another place hasn't responded to my email but magically two of their spots filled on Friday. 😉

You're going to find a mix. I read an article where the author contacted different program directors to see who stuck to the new rules and who didn't. I think it said that 60% of programs that were in the scramble, honored the request from phorcas to use their timeline in getting applicants.

I don't suppose anyone knows anyone in WI or MO....oh yea I'm scrambling

I am consider residency, how to apply at position in scrambel if no sign up for match? how to see open positions list available? someone can pm me list?

You have to have a phorcas account and pay the match fee to see the list of positions.

Hi may I ask which program that is? I don't want to spend $25 if the program already filled their spots! #debt4life
