I wanted to make a place where all the late applicants -- complete Nov. Dec. Jan. -- could ask questions pertaining to their primaries, secondaries, interviews, etc.

I myself was complete and sent for verification on Nov. 13th.

Please feel free to use this thread to ask any questions pertaining to apps completed later in the DO cycle.

Good luck, y'all!

I'm sure this question has been asked, but what are the top DO schools in your opinion? Considering sending in my application at the end of this week for verification but assumed I was much too late in the cycle at this point to even be interviewed.

Any advice appreciated!!

@Goro usually says that an app completed by Jan is late, though late November, and December are late(r).

It depends on your stats, at this point. If you're competitive, you'll probably be good to send in an app this late.

DO schools are hard and kind of useless to rank. Look around for some schools that should be off your list, either because of your stats or because they're already filling up their class. I think most schools are still good to go, and some have yet to offer interviews.

I was thinking of sending an application to two more schools. I am kind of burnt out right now and am thinking about my cash situation.

Didn't you apply last year as well? I'm curious as to why you're late this cycle

I sent most of my applications (secondaries) in September and few in early October. Part of the delay was the AACOMAS losing track of my transcripts (lost about 1 1/2 weeks). Still no real excuse for it.

I've been complete since late October and haven't heard a peep. What schools did you hear from?

You mean just primaries and not secondaries right?

How long does it take to get verified at this point?

@Goro, you are referring to completed primaries in your statement about early vs. late, right? That's been my interpretation.

Verification will take between 4 and 6 weeks from the time of primary completion.

It takes about six weeks between receipt of secondary and the II at my school, so one can work backwards from that. Wise SDNers would hopefully be verified by now. If they are not, then I feel it is too late in the season. Apps are up this year and it's much more competitive (my school will probably go over 6000 apps).

So, my app being verified early-mid December is actually late? Quite late lol?

Is it too late to send an app to Nova or should I just wait on the 4 DO schools I've already applied to?

Verification at this point in time will be faster. It could even be 3-4 weeks.

Yes. Think about the time line. They send you an app in late Dec, assuming people aren't on vacation. How long will it take for you to get your secondary back to the I'm January? ??

Then they have to send your invite about six weeks later, in Feb. This means your interview will be sometime in Mar/Apr or even May, by which time we're getting very picky and one might very well be interviewing for a spot on a wait list.

If you're already verified, go for it!!! But hurry!!

Really? I'd thought it might be later than usual with the glut of MD rejects scrambling to DO. If you're right, that's good news!

With the change in the primary, I maybe jumping the gun. A good chunk of people in the past were verified in 4 weeks in October.

I applied to :

PCOM-GA (1st choice)
LMU-DCOM
ACOM
VCOM (all 3)
LECOM-B
NOVA
KCOM-Pikesville

I'm sure hoping I get some luck. I was confident -- now I'm scared 🙁

Was there any reason why you delayed the process? LECOM-B probably already gave out more acceptances than its class size by now.

I took my MCAT late and my letter writers took ages. I originally planned to apply next year, but decided not to put it off, since I'd have a nearly 20 month gap period.

What are your stats?

Im new to this site so please don't bash me, I am an applicant with a 3.38 GPA, 3.0 SGPA, and 27 MCAT (10 P, 9 B, 7 V). I graduated in bioengineering, completed the degree in less than 3 years, had my mother pass away during my freshman year. Probably somewhere in the 300-400 hour range of volunteering experience and shadowing physicians. 1 published paper and a device I developed for neurosurgery and robotic surgery combined

I applied somewhat broadly, DMU, LMU, Lake Eerie, all the touros, liberty, ACOM, AZCOM, Marian, etc etc (18 schools total). I applied late this year in the application cycle though, completed it by October 2nd.

I have received quite a few secondaries but do I have any chance?
I am repeating my MCAT and applied to graduate schools just for the record.

It honestly depends on your stats. If you are significantly above average, then it is fine to apply now. However, if you aren't, then it would be wise to withdraw your application from the verification process so you won't be considered a reapplicant.

Also, it may have been easier to submit a primary to a school you know you absolutely won't attend a couple of months ago, just to start the GPA verification process earlier, even without the MCAT or LOR's.

You already made a thread about it, which I responded. No need to repeat it on here.

Secondaries complete from: 9/23 to 11/13, while waiting to be complete at about 5 more schools
Following Goro's timeline: Complete from Oct-Nov -> 6 weeks plus a few for holidays -> hear back hopefully by Dec/Jan

Anyone else in the same boat?

I was complete in the months of July and August, and received interview invites within 6 weeks. For Rowan, it took 8 weeks, and this is while I was an early applicant. By now, things would have been much slower because schools have a lot more applications to go through.

I still haven't heard back from several schools, even though I have decent stats (3.7 GPA, 31 MCAT.)

Thanks for the insight. I think it's safe to assume I'll prob hear back by Jan-Mar then given the volume of applicants. I also submitted my primary 3 additional times, hence the spread in secondaries being complete.
My stats aren't as competitive as yours either, so I think I'll consider myself lucky if I hear back Dec-Jan.
Honestly, I'm just glad to hear that someone is in the waiting boat like I am. All of the school-specific threads are users either cancelling II's or being nervous from hearing back after an II.

Wow! I'm already verified! It took pretty much just one week, which is crazy.

Bruh

Might not be a good sign....before it took over a month, which means most applicants have already applied and verified.

Now go prewrite those secondaries asap.

I'm just happy to get my app to schools early than I'd thought. This makes me verified in mid Nov., when I thought I'd be verified in mid Dec.

@Goro, does this put me in a slightly better position for this cycle, since I'm in before late Dec.?

Updated stats : cGPA 3.58, sGPA 3.35, nsGPA 3.71

MCAT : 510, 126/129/127/128

You're science GPA is weak and will be the reason you get shut down if at all, but you definitely qualified your abilities as a student with that MCAT. Had you applied earlier (obviously you did what you did for a reason) you would have had your pick. You're going to get in so don't stress

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I've had straight A's over the past three semesters with an A in biochemistry. I also got a letter from that professor. I think that upward trend will help.

So I have a small predicament. Maybe one of you or @Goro can help me.
I have already been accepted to LECOM and Touro-NV and have submitted my deposit to LECOM.
When I started this application cycle, I had very low self-esteem and thought that my cGPA: 3.7, sGPA:3.5, MCATs of 26 and (subsequently) 507 (~29/30) could only get me into LUCOM. After reading many of these threads, it seems that, I might have actually been competitive for some of the more competitive schools, like CCOM and AZCOM, schools with research and academic opportunities that really interest me. I am preparing to submit secondaries to Rowan, CCOM, AZCOM, and Touro-NY.
I was wondering what your thoughts would be for an applicant like me being complete late November for some of these more competitive schools. I didn't really like my experiences at either LECOM or Touro-NV and think I would be a better fit at some of the older schools with more research opportunities. If it makes a difference, I am white and an applicant from CA who totally doesn't mind losing his deposit to LECOM for any of the 4 schools I mentioned above.

@Ioannes Paulus

From what I can tell it's late to be getting complete. However, if you're already holding some acceptances, why not? The worst they can do is say no.

If you've done solid research on the averages of the DO schools, you would've realized that you could've gotten in to any one you would've wanted. Your stats are higher than their averages. It still isn't extremely late, but apply now! I know someone who applied with your stats this cycle and got 9 II's and was accepted to 8 and waitlisted at 1 school. He did apply early though.

Know that Rowan and CCOM have OOS tuition of $59k and $64k, respectively. AZCOM has also a tuition of around $60k. If I were you I would try applying in state to a school, if you have one around you.

With a 26 MCAT I can't recommend AZCOM, Touro-NY or CCOM. Rowan has a bias for NJ residents. You should try for Western, SOMA, and MUCOM for sure.

I am siked I found this thread. I am sure most of you have seen me post in other threads. I was complete at most of my schools around mid-October but have not heard anything back from any DO school (no rejection, no II, NO NOTHING 🙂). I do have one MD II which I received less than a week after being complete at the school which was very odd to me. Stats: 3.45 cGPA, 3.35 sGPA, 27 MCAT.

I just sent in eight new apps to different schools yesterday hoping for something good to come of it but its probably just a waste of money at this point.

@NBLogical it looks like we are in the same boat as regards to timeline. Have you heard anything more from schools yet? I am hoping we all get some good news here soon!

I applied to 10 DO's, and have one rejection and 9 silences. I was complete mid/late October as well, @juice31 . I'm hoping to hear something soon, it's been about 6 weeks since I submitted most secondaries (if I exclude the week of thanksgiving).

I am trusting in @Goro that we are not too late for some II coming up. I am really hoping this month brings some luck our way! What were your stats if you don't mind sharing?
