2015-2016 SUNY Downstate Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was just placed on the waitlist, post-interview (10/5) via email.

I'll likely be withdrawing my application in any case. Good luck to to those still waiting!

edit: It's a great program (see some of my previous posts), but I think there are others who would benefit more from attending here that I would ultimately.

I'm sorry to hear that! If you don't mind me asking, how were you notified?

No need to be, I was planning on withdrawing my application after my initial acceptance to another program just never got around to it. This makes it easier to make the choice 😛

I was notified via email.

Thanks for letting us know🙂 Congrats on your acceptance!!

Also got put on hold today via email, Lizzy M 70, in state, interviewed Sept 15th. Bummer, was really hoping for some good news 🙁

OOS II last Friday! Does anyone know how many OOS they typically accept? MSAR only provides # interviewed and #matriculated, just curious what my chances are being OOS!

25/188 matriculated students are OOS

right, the matriculation data is on MSAR, but I know schools accept more than they matriculate, as some accepted applicants will choose to go somewhere else. So wondering how many OOS are actually accepted

They don't give any data on that, as far as I know.

To those waitlisted - good luck, and don't give up! Plenty of current students (including me) got in off the waitlist, so there's still hope 🙂

Those data are available for a fee on the US News web site.

Rejection today. I'm OOS so I wasn't really expecting for my chances to be all that high. Nonetheless, it was a pretty sad start to my day. I really liked this school and good luck to the rest of you! I guess I just belong in Texas 🙂
what day did you interview?

I'm sorry about your rejection, and I hope that you have an acceptance in Texas (if so, congrats and hopefully more to come). Would you mind sharing how they notified you and when you interviewed? Thanks!

Thank you! Texas has not yet notified their in state residents of acceptances. But I have had a few interviews here 🙂 I interviewed October 14, and they notified me by email.

Thanks! Seems like SUNY is almost random about the post-interview notifications this year. I interviewed the week before you and haven't heard anything. Good luck at the rest of your schools!

I'm not sure if the request for Fall grades is an "on hold" strictly at SUNY downstate, because I have read many cases on these forums of people receiving IIs just weeks after they are sent that request, even before the semester is done.. at least I'm hoping that it's not...

Just got the "Hold for Spring Consideration" email. In-state. Interviewed late October.

Does anyone know if DS is amicable to pre-II updates? I'd kill to study, learn, and serve in one of the most diverse and needy populations the boroughs have to offer 🙁

curious if you ever got an answer, or if you wound up sending in an update pre-II

if anyone else knows if they are open to it, feel free to chime in 🙂

Never got an answer and don't wanna alienate my chances either 🙁

If it makes those of you put on hold feel any better, nobody has received an acceptance yet so it's not like they can delay things much further!

After the interview, they told me I would hear back in 6-8 weeks. However, I heard back within two weeks. It was much faster than I expected.

It's not. I got the request for fall grades back in late July. Received II like late September...needless to say, I was flabbergasted when I got the email cus I initially thought I was on "hold"

I interviewed on 9/16.
I Haven't heard anything back... no hold... no rejection.
How many people are still in the same boat?

I think it went okay.

Just got the "Hold for Spring Consideration" email. In-state. Interviewed late October.
My friend was put on hold for spring consideration and accepted in July, a month before orientation. So don't lose hope if you were put on hold, I heard the list moves decently.

I interviewed 10/8 and haven't heard anything. Why must they torture us like this?

No news is good news. Be confident, be patient, and just enjoy the process. Stop comparing your journey to others...that's where you get in trouble. Don't worry about who has heard back and who hasn't. Just sit back and let it happen.

Also the hold list shows a lot of movement, so that is nowhere near a death sentence. I came off the hold list, as did almost all of my friends at downstate. All brilliant people who have done great things and will be great physicians. Things will work out. Just try to keep calm in the meantime. It's a long process.

Interviewed Wed Nov 4. Went so well I would be disappointed to get waitlisted.

Setting myself up for some hurt, perhaps...

We must have met then. Why are you setting yourself up for disappointment?

I interviewed late October and didn't expect to hear back until December BUT NOW I JUST READ THIS THREAD AND WHAT PEOPLE ARE HEARING BACK ALREADY?? =___= applications are so unpredictable and i'm likely to die a few years early because of this.
Why so nervous? I don't think anyone has actually been accepted yet.

II this friday (11/6)! I was complete on 8/20 and am IS 3.6/36.

I submitted 8/11 and have had an online status of "Your Online Supplemental has been submitted to the Office of Admissions for further processing." since. Anyone else?

I interviewed at SUNY in early October and mine still says that. I wouldn't think anything of it
