So far since verification, I have discovered a few small mistakes, only one of which I think an adcom might notice.

AMCAS also chopped up some of my interdisciplinary courses into multiple subject areas, essentially adding courses I didn't take and assigning credit hours subtracted from the main course.

I'm ready to submit.... But, I was just reading the work/activities thread and it talks about what to do if your activity goes over 999hours, almost all for mine do- some over 4000 hours. I typed the hours into each box and it accepted the hours even though they are way over 999, what gives? Is it going to screw up once I submit? I printed my app and it looks fine, and shows the exact hours I typed in.

I think this is an old issue. It appears the field is 4 digits not 3 now. I had several activities over 999 and they all show up correctly on my submitted and verified application.

I know right? I mean based on last year's forums, it looks like not all of them come out at once fortunately, but there were a few forerunners that are on my list. Gotta get going!

I am going to be out of the country for 6 days right when mine should be released and just realized I'm going to be working on it and trying to print, sign, scan etc from a third world hotel...

I don't think I had to print or sign anything from my schools for last year, so that's good news for ya!

I know for certain USUHS' secondary does... They also want all of the documents put into one PDF which without full adobe acrobat you can only do by printing them all and scanning together. blah.

Oh well, I have it mostly prewritten, just going to need to find a place to do the print/scan and it means I'm taking a laptop I was going to leave at home haha.

Then again maybe they won't send the secondary until the 1st of July in which case I'll just wait till I get home to do it. Taking the laptop just in case 🙂

Looks like it came out June 30th last year
 
Actually I suppose now's as good a time as any to ask this, but how critical is it to turn around the secondary app right away? Like is a week as good as the next day, is two weeks?

I've heard the quicker the better, like within 3 days or so... anecdotally, I've heard that the schools that people did secondaries within that time tended to be schools that were more interested in them. Not sure what other people's experiences are.

That said like being in the first group of people, I wonder if I want to wait a little bit so that you're not the first, or maybe being the very first is good? Who knows!

Is it a terrible idea to seek out another job now? I would plan to work until December (if I'm accepted) and for an indefinite amount of time if I don't.

I would say it's fine to seek out a job. Try to make it one that you'll like, preferably in the health care industry if possible?

The reason I say that is if you get accepted for med school they will be far more understanding about you leaving than anyone else would be.
 
Hey all, I'm also a nontrad applying this cycle. Best of luck to all this season. Quick question (that I couldn't locate in a search): does anyone know of a list of which secondaries require a photo? I want to know how many days I have to get that photo taken. Thanks!

The only one I know for certain that does is USUHS but there are others.

USUHS is a weird secondary and you have to attach the picture to a PDF (that you can't safe). Print it then scan it. My picture looks awful... It was great prior to printing an rescanning.

Anyways but it is a 2x2 picture for them

Does it have to be passport style, or like a license picture, blue background? Or, can I just crop a regular picture?

It doesn't have to be a solid background though but should be professional. Mine is in uniform in front of an American flag.

Edit: just realized how odd my picture sounds if you don't know that's how they take our official military ones.

The Post Office will do a passport picture for $15. Put on a nice shirt, go get your picture snapped and they'll print out as many as you like. $15 gets you 2 prints for the old-school secondaries and then you can take it home an scan it for all the reasonable 21st century secondaries. Easy.

There's an error in the secondary essay instructions I'm calling them about in 5 min. The header instructions say to do question 1 and then 2 of the remaining 4 questions, the question specific instructions say 1 and 2 are required and then to do 2 of the remaining 3.
 
Also @milski just a heads up prompts are different from last year, posted in the school specific thread. Glad I hadn't prewritten this one since I was expecting it to come in the end of July based on last year.

Cool, I had not pre-written anything either, although I have a lot of material from the last year to recombine/reuse.

For Quinnipiac: the way I see it, they require you to answer 1 & 2 and want two out of the three following, so it is 1+2+two out of (3,4,5)?
 
I'm moving this weekend... not the best time to be getting secondaries, can't believe it's already here!
