2015 Nontrad Applicants' Progress Thread

Up to having 14 done as of right now, but haven't submitted any of them. Well, I guess 13 since SUNY downstate says they won't take my less than 3 year old MCAT. Eff them.

I guess I' going to try to reuse their essays in as many places as possible for retribution. Took a half day yesterday and off today, and taking more of the day tomorrow off as well. My goal is to hit the mid 20's by sunday night and submit a few of them as well.

Then finish the rest by the end of next weekend at the latest and try submitting most if not all as well.
 
This is probably a ridiculously stupid question, but do secondaries only come after your primary has been verified? I've got a few schools that I know don't do secondaries, but a few that automatically send to everyone and I haven't received any yet. My app was submitted 7/10 and there on 7/7 now so I'm playing the waiting game for verification....
 
Just submitted Miami! Now I can recycle those 263663727 essays for every other secondary

There are definitely schools that send out secondaries prior to primary verification. Do you have your schools all selected in AMCAS?

Yep, almost all selected--waiting back for a second MCAT score before I apply any further and waste money on schools out of my range.

someone else might be able to chime in specifically on those schools, but it's possible they are ones that wait until primaries are verified to send secondaries.
 
I realize it's still early in the process, but there's something about waiting for II's, that seem they will never come, that makes you really, really regret and re-live some of your poor past life decisions.

George Washington
Columbia
Dartmouth
Boston
Cincinnati
Chicago

You're joking right? the second i finish sending in my secondaries, I'm going to be so busy with research that i won't even know that I'm not getting II's!

I mean, I got so fed up of just working this week that I went out on two dates this week and they were both awesome. Weird feeling...
 
Alright so I pushed it today and now I'm done with 9/15 that I currently have. Also I wasn't rejected from Indiana like a lot of people today, so that is good!
 
Has anyone applied to Louisville??? I thought Miami with the 3 MPH essays tacked on was a long app... Not looking forward to that one

haha no im not joking, I too work full time, on top of research, plus have a kid, but still think about it
 
Busy 2 weeks for me...
Last week got my MCAT score back 👍 and got verified 👍👍.
This week applied to schools and submitted my first 2 secondaries.
Enjoying following everyone's progress on this thread, glad I'm not as behind anymore. Congrats to those who got IIs this week!
 
Just passed the halfway mark for pre-writing secondaries. Going to go hang out with friends this evening and then do more secondaries tonight. Will make a big push tomorrow as well as submit a few of the early ones!

I hope that these just have to sound reasonably polished instead of being as polished as the primary personal statement. Mine are good, but this isn't my best writing...
 
Hi, everyone. I've been lurking on studentdoctor for a few weeks now, and just wanted to say hello and good luck to everyone applying this cycle, especially my fellow nontrad applicants. I'm waiting on my mcat score (Tuesday!) and writing a bunch of secondaries.

So, I am graduating in 2016 so Im not even a non-trad applicant.
But I dont plan on applying for another 6-8 years or so after I graduate so I guess at that point I would be a nontrad right?
I was just wondering: If Im still taking the premed reqs now,
will med schools still take those credits 6-8 years from now, or would I have to retake them?
I thought maybe posting here, some of you guys wouldve already taken some of the classes and had to start over
pls redirect me if there is a better thread to ask this,
pls and thx for replies

You will not have to retake any prerequisites that you have already taken, provided they meet current admissions requirements at the time you apply (haven't seen any instances of requirements changing that much). It's almost for certain that basic chem, organic chem, biology, etc will still be required in 6-8 years so I'd think it's a safe bet to take them now.

Question though, why wait 6-8 years?
 
Yeah, seriously. Why wait that long if you're interested in going to medical school? I'll have 5 years if I matriculate next fall and i would have loved to just have two. I had a bunch of 'life happens' stuff over the last few years, but it really wouldn't have made sense to wait this long otherwise.
 
28 Prewritten. 12 to go... Have a couple of hard ones left, but I'm going to do a big triage and figuring out this week and knock them out. I haven't been submitting any of them yet, which is probably a bad thing, but I wouldn't be complete till mid august anyway so I hope it's not a big deal.

I'm crossing my fingers that being complete by mid august won't prove detrimental to my chances.
 
Hello everyone! I'm a non-traditional, but I won't be applying until the 2016 cycle for 2017 start. That being because I'm non-traditional in the sense I returned to school at age 26 after 2 semesters at age 18, so I'm working on my bachelors not just post-bacc pre-reqs. I will be 30 when I apply and 31 when I (hopefully) matriculate! Just wanted to tell you all I was following your progress here and wishing you good luck.

And the most important lesson I learned from this thread: Do U of Miami secondary first 🙂

It really depends on the medical school. My classes from 2003 and 2004 will not count towards fulfilling requirements for some of the schools i've applied to because they are too old. Luckily my upper level classes will fill in for those. Some schools have a 5 year limit, Brown is a good example.
 
Weekend not as productive as I had hoped, but complete at 9 schools.

3 tough ones on deck.

I'm actually considering scaling back my apps from 23 to 16. The cost is getting to me.
 
I just found out that my committee letter will go in next thursday. Now I have a deadline to submit all my apps. I'm going to start submitting a few of the favorites now and hopefully it'll help move me up a bit in the queue.

@GameOfBones , if I finish mine on time, I might throw a few more in. I already lost one because they said my mcat was too old. Oh well.

A friend said that most of the secondaries he submitted end of aug/early sept were useless, so I'll likely go by that rational.
 
8 more to go, of which one is Vanderbilt so I'll be waiting on that one. Hope to bang out the rest between tomorrow and weds since I'm taking off the day on weds. Probably taking a half day on Thursday too so I can start submitting. Turns out my committee letter will go in by Thursday of next week so goal is to have all of these apps submitted by then. It's going to be a helluva sprint.

I'm going to take even more time off from work, but that's what vacation is for right? Hah!
 
Just did Feinberg's secondary (the MSTP version) and have to say I'm in love them now😍. Probing, open-ended, but direct questions, as opposed to all the probing, open-ended and totally vague questions I've been fielding from all the others:yeahright:. Despite the fact that they raised their fee by $20.

Can't get too excited though, 7 more to do in the inbox and 2 in the pipeline. More than halfway through the secondaries at this point though 🙂

I've already spent so many hours on Vanderbilt to no avail so I think I am going to follow your lead and put it off til last!
 
Just finished FSM. That makes it 38/40, well 37/39 anyway. FU DOWNSTATE!

I just have to finish UMass tonight and then start editing and submitting apps tomorrow. I hope to be able to finish most of the submissions by tuesday morning when I'm going on an overdue vacation till thursday night. Worst case scenario, I'll take tues-fri off and submit the rest between fri-sun next week.

As I said before, I'll work on doing stuff for Vandy piecemeal till I get their secondary. I have enough material to pull from for a baller secondary!

I wonder if I should add a couple more schools. Emory comes to mind...

Saw quite a few more people get IIs for USUHS so hopefully a few here were among them. I'm a little less stressed than previously because for whatever reason my app wasn't marked as complete by USUHS until a week after most of the people who got invites today.

Mine was in before theirs but there must have been something that didn't line up for whatever reason.
 
Just got Case Western's long *** secondary submitted. If I can finally knock out Colorado's big scary single essay, then the rest are easy, short blurbs.
So ready to be done with this part of it... there's a local wine festival this weekend and I'm going regardless, but I'd really like to go knowing everything is finished.
 
Just finished UMass essays today. Time to start editing and submitting tomorrow. Psyched!

Will start vandy if/when I have time. Not worried about it at all. I hope I don't change too much while editing. I feel like I've become a far bolder writer in my last few essays.
 
Just submitted UCF FINALLY. I've just finished 12. Only 4 left, (Baylor, Louisville, EVMS, & VCU) Also still waiting to hear back from TMDSAS.

Nice job! It sounds like we applied to a similar number of schools.

I thought being done would feel good but it just gives me nothing to do to improve my application...

Haha! I think I'll save a secondary or two until after I get an II just for the validation, and so I won't have a waiting period 🙂
