2015 Nontrad Applicants' Progress Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Didn't play PC, but played Halo 2/3 and Modern Warfare 2 competitively. Then buckled down for school and raised my GPA haha fell behind the curve and can't roll with those kids anymore.

When you guys say playing competitively, I immediately think of the southpark clip:

I keep saying to my wife, "hey honey, could you do me a favor?"
*what?*
"Could you get me an interview invite? Thanks!"

Needless to say, after the 10th time, she's not amused, and thinks I need to calm down.
My husband is convinced I'm getting in to medical school if not this year than next. And he's a zen master about it. Meanwhile, I check my email at 3 a.m. like a nut job.

He was also convinced I smacked down the MCAT when I came out of the test almost in tears and sure I didn't break 30.

Go figure.

I'm honestly starting to get a bit annoyed with everyone saying ~"don't worry, you'll get in". I know that they are just being supportive but I don't think they understand the nature of this process, and they think I'm just catastrophizing.

Anyway, going to get Temple submitted today and may be trading my 4runner for an '84 rabbit diesel. It's either genious or idiotic, not sure which one.....similar to applying to medical school I guess...

App verified, MCAT score comes in Tuesday :nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:
Working on pre-writing now, only a few done so far - need to get moving! Still debating a DO application, kind of waiting on my MCAT score to get a better idea since there is only 1 DO school nearby and there are 6 MDs in state + more nearby......
Keep meaning to put together a list of OOS schools I want to apply to, but with no MCAT score I have just not been motivated to come up with a list.

For most people idiotic. But for a mechanic...Genius! 40+ MPG and noisy smokey 80's diesel here we come!

It makes me so angry to know that this is a problem that can be solved because some schools have a great interface where you can just sort your amcas courses and select what requirements they fulfill and the other places make you type it all in. Seriously obnoxious.

I think it's actually disrespectful too. But whatever, we're paying them for this right?

Yes. Tonight I'm working my way through a Moonstruck milk chocolate bar.

I am looking forward to some communication tomorrow from any of the 17 schools I applied to. That would be nice.

I had to look that up...never had one. Oh my gosh...this silence is KILLING me. I still have one school...U Washington...that i've heard nada from (no secondary, no rejection)! Brown, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Georgetown are throwing II's out like nobodies business just not to me and I am going nuts.

P.S. did anyone apply to Kansas?

I applied to Georgetown also and I am feeling a bit butthurt, which I realize is ridiculous. This process brings out my crazy.

In other news: the baby is asleep! Now I can read my trashy novel until I fall asleep myself.

Apparently baylor doesn't waive application fee for FAP. I'd have to throw them fifty bucks. I'm done with their application but I almost don't want to submit it and pay out of principle.

It's a wealthy school. And I should have checked first, but I wouldn't have applied had I known about this.

That is such a cheap secondary! You should apply. And they should honor FAP. :/

Tulane only waived 1/2 of the secondary fee for me, but that's the only one out of 28 schools that I had to pay. Started my AACOMAS app today and getting fee waiver paperwork sent tomorrow for them.

Only ones I haven't heard back from are Minnesota, UW, Drexel, and Nevada.

Rabbit deal didn't go, he got a cash offer just before I got there. Probably for the best since I won't be commuting at all at the end of September and I really like my 4Runner aesthetically. Was nice to have a day off. Hoping for some good news this week.

This week is the week! Sorry you didn't get the car. 🙁

Sunk cost fallacy. I've already thrown in 30 bucks to the school so the thought is that I should apply since it's only 15 bucks more than paying to add more schools (I'm thinking of adding emory and case western).

I actually didn't apply to tulane because they don't waive the secondary for FAP. I'm not sure why I'd change that logic now. I'm also not white and living in Texas comes with side effects. I'm applying to a few schools in virginia as well, but that's about where I drew the line.

I guess I'm down to 38.

The pepperwood household enjoys buffalo trace, Malbec and movies haha

I just bought a bottle of scotch today. I need to get some buffalo trace.

I seriously have never consumed this much alcohol before in my life. Writing all these personal essays sober would have been awful though.

I'm looking forward to getting back to a real life when I'm done submitting secondaries. I'm planning on doubling my weekly gym time. I get in about 3-4 45 min sessions a week. Hoping to hit 3-4 1.5 hr sessions and maybe a day or two of cardio.

The consultant life kicked in recently and I'm in NY for work. I'm enjoyed a bubble bath, Thai delivery, and Kit Kats.

Edit: I did not enjoy the middle seat of the airplane or sleeping alone in this hotel room or UChicago's 2 sentence email rejection!

I'm happy to report an afternoon nap, sunset sightseeing and lots of procrastination. Two more secondaries left, Case and Northwestern, both have some rather annoying questions.

That totally makes sense. I applied to Emory. I really like what I know about them so far.

Sorry to hear about pritzker. I'm crossing my fingers for them myself, but will likely meet the same fate.

How long are you in NYC? I'll likely be there fri-sun.

Yup. And a resident friend at work is starting his fellowship there next fall. I'm def adding them. I'll make exceptions for my rule for some schools. Oh eff it. I'll just pay for baylor lol.

What is that? Did you mean wings? Because I love me some hot wings.

Buffalo trace is whiskey. Bourbon to be specific.

I had to google it but looks like it has no wings. 😉

Bourbon...very very yummy bourbon. Probably my favorite, but Ridgemont 1792 is a great value and more often what is in my glass at home.

Then again my middle name is Dewar (seriously) so I've got a soft spot for some white label ;-)

Quite possible, I'm older than my MCAT. 🙁

Saw a friend that goes to tufts today and she said she has people in her class that were 40 when they started, so it's possible you did better than my 34 on a retake 😉
