2015 scores…how would you evaluate them?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
All we can do is do as best as we can. Trying to analyze the new exam is only fun when you've already taken it; otherwise it is just extra stress.

Very true. I tend to worry about things I can't change...I will just have to discipline myself not to think about it! But srsly, I'm going to study absolutely every MCAT 2015 resource that is out there…I don't see how I can score poorly after that. If I do, well at least I know I tried my best!

But since the AAMC is asking medical schools to focus on the "top of the curve, " doesn't that mean that a 500 should be considered a good score? I don't get why it would be equivalent to a 25 because clearly that cannot be the "top" for medical schools.

Top of the curve = peak of a normal distribution = roughly 50th percentile. The top (highest) scores would be to the right.

No preference will be given to new vs old. All scores are considered but the fewer, the better.
The best MCAT strategy remains: a single strong score.

Not a snowball's chance in hell.

Do you think there is a slight chance that adcoms might give some bonus points for applicants that have taken the new MCAT?

Wait…if schools don't have any preference, then what is the point of this list?

There are some schools on here that prefer 2015 apparently, although they will accept both. A lot have not stated their policies, which is worrisome.

that's interesting.. I find it a bit unfair that students who are applying in 2015 and have taken the older MCAT will perhaps be at a disadvantage at schools that state they prefer the new exam. AAMC added all these extra seats for the old exam and lots of people are taking it in January who plan on applying in 2015. I wonder how many are aware that they may be at a disadvantage at some schools

Gimme a break! The majority of schools on the list will take the old MCAT for another 2 app cycles!
I can only guess as to why a few schools want the new MCAT up front....maybe to start fresh in looking at applicants? Or to not have to bother comparing old and new??

I'll bet some of the Admissions deans will be coming to your schools to recruit...you can ask them directly.
