If you check out last years thread... you'll see a few will email or call in November (particularly towards the end of the month) but most will wait until early to mid December (some even later than that despite the deadlines).

Nah, I don't think much has changed. One or two sites may have interviews in early December -- and it seems like a few sites have that especially for people in the area -- but almost every site that had explicit info about when they were interviewing said January.

My understanding is you are required to be a qualified applicant for a federal job position in general before you can be considered for an internship position, so they have to get that out of the way first. This turns out to be a pretty long process so they review and return applications pretty quickly so you can get that process started. Not sure how familiar you are with the BOP process, but there's a lot of information about the steps involved in applying to a BOP internship on their website: https://www.bop.gov/jobs/psychology_intership.jsp.

When I applied in 2014, it was the first year they had applicants do that process. It was stressful for BOP TDs and applicants because we were all guinea pigs for it.

Yes that is my understanding. As long as you are identified as "best qualified" by USAJobs, though they're not transparent about this ranking system.

What, you're not feeling wonderful about everything?

I've been discussing ways to cope with the stress of all this on top of, hrrmm, other stressors, and the conclusions we reached were: (a) exercise when possible and without a phone; (b) spend time getting things done -- even if they're small things unrelated to your work like weeding the garden or hemming your pants; (c) make whatever spreadsheets or lists you need to to help you make decisions in the future; (d) remind yourself that for most sites it's early yet to expect to have an interview invite; (e) spend time relaxing alone and with friends, when you can. It's a start, at least.
