Possible Interview dates: January 9th and 27th

Any advice for how you handle it if you're already booked on possible dates that a site has offered? I have two other great interviews on those dates, so I sent an email to UIC asking if they would be willing to set up an alternative date or means of interviewing. I feel like canceling or trying to move another interview would be disrespectful to those who contacted me first, but I also would really like to go to UIC.

This process sucks.

It's been a couple years since I was going through the application process, but I found sites to be very accommodating. I agree that you probably don't want to cancel or move an interview you've already scheduled, but if you let the new site know that you're already booked on the available dates, they might let you come in on another day. I even had one site add an interview day because so many people were booked up by the time they sent out their invitations. If all else fails, you can see if somebody would be willing to trade with you. In the end, if a site isn't understanding about all of this craziness, you might not want to be there.

It didn't specify so I'm not sure. I applied to the general track so it may have just gone out for that.

I am in a similar boat. One of my top sites offered me a very specific time on a date I'd already booked with another great site. This process is very stressful. 🙁

I applied to the correctional track, and the email indicates that, but it sounds like all tracks interview together and then those applying to the correction rotation can interview the prison after the interview.

No time for self care during this stressful time lol

I applied to two tracks and got the same mass email but they didn't specify which track I was being interviewed for

As others have posted, I was offered an interview date with the Nebraska Consortium for the Nebraska Medicine Paychology Department track for January 6th. If anybody has a different date and is interested in Jan 6th I would love to trade. I had another interview already scheduled on that date, but also really like this program.

hopefully this is safe to say, but assuming that all the training directors will be busy eating loads of food over Thanksgiving break and not busy judging our applications, let's all be relatively stress free for the next 4 days and enjoy lots of good food!!! Happy thanksgiving everyone!

As someone who strives for (read: consistently fails to achieve) some semblance of work-life balance, I'm reminding myself that if I DO hear from a site before Monday, it doesn't bode well for THEIR work-life balance or ability to promote mine! I guess that narrative is my current coping strategy 🙂 happy holiday everyone!
 
In response to what Yale track contacted applicants for interviews, I heard from the Connecticut Mental Health Center placement.
 
Has anyone heard from Western Psych/Pitt Psychiatry Department yet? I saw on their website that they were planning to extend interview invites on the 22nd, but I did not hear anything. I'm assuming this means I did not receive an interview invitation, but am still curious if anyone else has heard anything!

I totally get this! I will add the caveat that you should consider that VA employees only get a certain number of annual leave days a year. I frequently come in the day after thanksgiving (not this year though!) because it is usually a quiet day, and I'd rather bank up my leave for fun in the summer. Just wanted to throw that out there in the off chance you receive an invite on Friday.

I've been waiting on them as well, and heard nothing. It's strange because I thought I had a really good shot at an interview there. Maybe they're running late...

Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping that some sites, especially those that offer their interviews later and provide fewer options for dates, will be a little flexible. If any accommodations can be made, that would be great, but if not then that speaks a little bit to the culture of the site.

Side note, one of the things I wish we could give feedback on is that it's been extremely helpful for sites to give us advance warning on their website and brochures about their planned interview dates. I know this is a long time in advance to plan, but the fact that many of my sites provided this allowed me to plan for which days I really needed to reserve for my top sites and avoiding scheduling over with lower valued sites. There have been several sites that didn't provide this info, and that makes it really hard to keep up a good scheduling strategy.

It was track specific (Health Psych)...the email said if we had applied to more than one track, we would hear from the track coordinator "very soon." This is the only track I applied to there, but I hope this helps!
