I emailed the admissions office and instead of answering that question, they told me to wait until I had filed my 2016 taxes...so I assume they would also update the application as well in the interim? If you want, maybe you can email them to clarify at [email protected]

I had also asked if a NYS learner's permit would be sufficient (lol @ being a city kid) but they didn't answer that question, so if you don't want to email them, I would be happy to send a follow up!

Thank you for your input, I'm glad I'm not the only one with this question lol I assumed that they would update the application as well. I guess its still early so there is no rush in filling it out, but I will email them again and ask them if its ok to use that application from last cycle, or if we have to wait for them to update it to our matriculating cycle. I will message you if I find out anything!
 
Has anyone else who interviewed in late September not heard back yet?

I'm surprised you even got that far on a phone call to a school like this. Someone posted something similar in the EVMS thread a while back, saying they called and were offered to schedule an interview right at that moment over the phone. I gave them a call asking for my status and the lady bluntly told me that if I didn't receive an interview invite email, then my status was that I'm under review. Didn't even bother to ask for my AMCAS ID. I bet if I called SUNY-downstate, the same thing would happen to me again aha. I was extremely kind during the call btw.

The call was not all that smooth for me either, it was a little rocky. When I first asked for status update the lady that answered my call said "we don't do status updates over the phone"....then I just told her that I was a first time applicant and just leaning the process for every school blah blah... I guess my charm worked on her and she asked for my AMCAS ID and told me I was going to be invited to interview.

Question for those who have interviewed or have an II in the near future - did you guys receive any kind of reminder or confirmation email about your interview after the initial invitation email? I have mine this week and haven't heard anything since I replied to the initial emailconfirming I would be attending, the radio silence makes me nervous

Did you get a response to that email? Other than confirming your attendance, that's the last correspondence you'll get.

After I confirmed my attendance I didn't get a response, I guess that's normal? I thought they might send a confirmation or additional details for interview day once it got closer and when i called to check the person who could answer my question was out of the office.

I'm not sure if that's normal. When I confirmed my attendance, I got a confirmation email from one of the secretaries. If you are concerned, just give them a call. They are very friendly!

If you don't mind me asking were you waitlisted or placed on hold for spring consideration? Or are those the same thing? I also interviewed here and was placed on hold for spring consideration.

As of right now, the two are the same thing. All apps on hfs will be re-reviewed in early May when all interviews have been given out. Once re-reviewed you can be accepted right away (based on how many spots need filling). If they don't decide to do this, you will receive an email in late may saying you are on the alternate list. This means the class is full and you will be re-reviewed on an as needed basis. (they probably rank apps after the initial re-review to see which alternates get priority...but im uncertain of specifics or if this is really how they do it.) You can still get accepted from the alternate list after people decide to go elsewhere. There will be possible movement until july. Some members of this year's first year class were chosen from the alternate list the Saturday before orientation started. Its a long process. lol

So if you have an acceptance elsewhere then we're probably best off taking that since we won't here's back until after the deadline to make a decision right?

If downstate is your first choice, hold onto it. You're allowed to still be holding wait list spots after the deadline. lets say you get two acceptances and two wait list spots, you can hold both wl spots but have to choose one acceptance. So it's really up to you
 
Is there only one one-on-one interview here or are there two?

Everyone else seems to have had a chill interview. I feel like I was grilled a new one lol. What gives?

A little over 5 weeks for me, but I think it could be more or less depending on how fast your interviewer submits their report. Good luck!

I tried to go to the online app portal but it just says that my fee has been waived and nothing else shows. Does anyone has this issue?
 
Should I be scared if I haven't heard anything back from them since they sent me an email that my app was complete? Does this mean it's a silent rejection? So scared

hey guys i really need some advice on my situation

i received an email today that my app is incomplete (missing supplemental) although i was 95% sure i submitted it back on 9/22 along with all my other secondaries but it turns out i submitted the secondary but forgot to pay :/ should i bother sending the secondary in today? or does anyone know how my IIs have been given out already? I'm OOS but have really strong ties to NY and would definitely attend the school, if accepted

If it's not past their deadline then sure. Maybe email their admissions office and explain your situation?

yeah i called and they told me to still submit since they interview until the end of april!
 
Does anyone have a close hotel recommendation?
 
I stayed in Manhattan, near Washington Heights for my interview. The commute was only about 30-35 minutes via the subway. So you wouldn't need to find a place in Brooklyn if you didn't want to. But I would look into airbnb instead of a hotel

30-35 minutes from Wash Heights? That's literally impossible! What train? Thats easily a 1 hour trip.
 
Interviewed here 10/31 and just got an email rejection.

Pretty disappointed because I thought my interview went really well. I have only received positive comments about my interviewing skills and had a good conversation with my interviewer so I think it must have been something else about my app that made me unappealing.

I think I had too heavy of a research emphasis and not enough community service or shadowing for the school. Also could have been because of a low MCAT subsection score.

Damn dude... It all feels like a crapshoot. I feel like I might have the same fate as you, I interviewed here 11/9
 
Recently received an email requesting more information regarding activities done during certain "empty" months. I was a nanny while abroad, do you think I should say this or just say I was just vacationing? Did anyone receive such a similar request?

I got an email like this over the summer. They just want to put the pieces of your application into a timeline, and were unsure what was happening during those months. Just be honest. I sent in a letter and a couple weeks later I got an II
