Hey I interviewed here recently in early December and can't remember if the dean of admissions said 6 weeks for a decision or could be up till 6 weeks for a decision? I see some people posting decisions below the 6 week time frame

Yeah I wouldn't go by what they say unfortunately. Some pple still haven't heard anything after October interviews, and some people have been hearing back within 4 weeks.

I haven't heard back either yet after my interview on 11/10. Hopefully I will soon though

Placed on HFS 12/9.

Should I be panicking? I've heard mixed things about HFS and that they either accept a lot or almost no one.

Hello! Can anyone please give a run down of what the interview day? Also what time would be a morning/afternoon interview? If I was given 10 am, does this mean interview first then tour/lunch? Or is it random? Thank you guys so much, would really appreciate any input!!

This school is a true Pass/Fail school right ?? No internal rankings ? and AOA is decided via clinical year?

Curriculum for first year and a half is pass/fail yes. They say there's no internal ranking but nobody knows what to believe. Clinical years are honors/high pass/pass/low pass/fail and ranks are reported in quantiles.

Got the request for fall grades yesterday. Is it a good sign that Downstate is interested in my app?

Your interview should be around 10:30 am and it's only one interview. When you arrive they give you a packet with a lot of info about that day and the school, including who will interview you, I'd suggest looking the interviewer up to have more things to talk about. You'll interview and then wait a hot minute in the waiting area with other interviewees and then tour and lunch. Downstate does interview day great you'll have fun! Good luck!

did anyone who got the "interview after jan 15" email, get a follow up for scheduling the actual interview?

How far in advance does downstate schedule their interviews?

I haven't gotten a scheduling email yet, either.

No word/hold at all. Any chance of me receiving an interview at this point?

Just heard back. Looks like I got a post II Hold for Spring also...So does HFS = Waitlist? Seems like a bunch of pple have been getting accepted shortly after getting placed on hold

It seems like the people who got off HFS were placed on it by mistake as they were all interviewed within the same week or days.

I'm also HFS and hoping we'll get an acceptance soon!

I interviewed during the second week of October and still haven't heard back. It's been over 2 months, so the silence seems kind of strange. Would it be worthwhile to call the admissions office for an update?

I sent my app on July 3rd. The day I got my secondary. Did it while at work. Didn't hear a PEEP from downstate until January 6th when they offered me an interview for the end of Jan. It took them 6 months. There's definitely a chance.

That's great to hear and congrats on being halfway through MS1. Did you decide to matriculate at Downstate?

Shoulda specified this was years ago. I'm like a month out from being done with ms2 lol. And yes at downstate. We end second year early in feb then get 7 weeks off to study for/take step 1.

Is it me but does this school seem to really waitlist a lot of people for HFS, move them to alt list and then admit a lot of their students in may? Cuz I knew 2 people (applied diff cycles, oos ) who got into this school this way... I'm oos from ca and I'm so desperate to get into med school...got an II that will be schedule after Jan 15. already been waitlisted at 3 schools ( 2 private, 1 in state)....so freaking anxious since I need to improve my interview skills and MSAr doesn't show the greatest statistics for OOS matriculants (291 interviewed, 40 matr.) at this school

Typically there is definitely a lot of movement from the wait list for downstate. Most of my friends (myself included) were put on hold at some point throughout the cycle. There are members of the first year class that got accepted the weekend before orientation began. Which is crazy. Also don't worry about what the out of state stats are. This could all be heavily skewed by students not wanting to pay out of state tuition, or deciding to stay closer to home. We have a lot of students from Cali. Just focus on doing your best with the interview. You got an ii for a reason, and downstate is generally really relaxed with their interviews.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with out with this dilemma. Downstate clearly states that they aren't receptive to pre-II updates but after completing AMCAS, I began working very closely with a physician who is a Downstate alum. He said he would write me a LOR (which I would have to send as an e-mail) but I'm unsure if downstate would even read it because it would be considered a pre-II update. Do you think it'd be worth it?

How do you know they aren't receptive? I sent an email to admissions with an update and they thanked me for it

It says on their website that they only accept post interview updates. However, if you send them an update, it will be added to your file. I've also spoken to admissions about this and they told me that an update couldn't hurt.

LOR is not an update. It's a letter and therefore has to be sent through AMCAS ( by the doctor, not you) for them to accept it. You can always add more letters on AMCAS at any time in the cycle, even if you already sent out a committee letter or a letter packet.

I sent them an update (new grades that increased by grad GPA by .17 points/completion of my degree program, new leadership position in community service, and 2 poster updates). They promptly responded and said they would add it to my file.

*Edited: I also called the admissions office before I sent an update, and they said they are receptive to them and I should sent it via email with a PDF attachment. They did ask what kind of update, so maybe make sure it's really meaningful before sending.

Haven't gotten any feedback after that, so we'll see how it goes.

Lol SUNY Downstate sent me an acceptance email a couple weeks ago, which was about a month after I interviewed, and they just sent me another email placing me on hold for spring consideration. What in the world is happening? Embarrassingly poor organization on their part, honestly.

Wow, that's pretty bad. I would call/email them and push for that acceptance.
