2016-2017 Wayne State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Those who have interviewed: when is the earliest we may hear a response? It's later this month, correct? I know thinking about it doesn't change anything, but it's nice to at least have some idea of acceptance vs. rejection/waitlist (I have heard that a few schools don't accept anyone until January!)

All allopathic medical schools can release acceptance no earlier than Oct. 15th. Rejections can happen at any time though. Not sure about waitlist decisions.

The 1-on-1 interview is open file with your entire application available to the interviewer. If it's at all like last year then they will be very familiar with your application. Be prepared to talk about any red flags (low MCAT subscore, poor course grade), as well as your activities/awards/positions etc. listed in your application.

Does Wayne usually have a set day they send out II's?

Anyone who has interviewed already have any suggestions on how to prepare? I'm interviewing tomorrow morning (and it'll be my first MMI too) :bag:

As per my previous post, there's not a ton you could do to prepare I don't think. The MMIs were not too bad, they were my first as well and I didn't do any specific preparation for them, just tried to be myself and honestly answer questions. My one-on-one interviewer was really nice, wasn't trying to trick me or anything like that, honestly just be yourself and try to relax and you should be ok!

Thanks! Do you know if it's common to get ethics or policy related questions?

They have all the interviewees sign this thing saying that won't talk to anyone about the details of any questions or anything like that so I can't really say, but I wouldn't stress about the MMI even if it's your first one.

Haven't interviewed at this school but I have been through a couple MMIs. Review some "common" MMI scenarios online and be confident. I think the MMIs are less stressful than normal one-on-ones!

Anyone have their interview afternoon of october 7?

it looks like 3 invites have been sent out and 191 interviews have taken place according to the website!!! is there hope for those who are still waiting to get II ?

Really? Theyve said on the phone with several people that it would be around 1k.
Several or just the one? Because I just looked back and saw just one. If it's just one its confusing since we have 1 answer to no increase and 1 that they are increasing.

I asked because I was worried about the post interview acceptance rate and they said "around 700". I followed up with "is that more than normal?" And they said, "if it ends up being more than normal it won't be by much."

Also, the tracker has only around 4.2k applications which the other person said was "more than usual". But actually it's less then average? It's also late in the cycle at this point so they probably won't get applications at the rate they've been getting them.

I saw at least 1 other person say it first a while back. Then I called them about something else not long afterwards and asked about it, and they gave me the same answer.

That's very strange then. Either way the admissions office isn't all on the same page.

It's also possible they've changed their stance? My interview was very recent

Me too. Been MR since mid-July and it's killing me.
Really feel like WSU is my best chance since I didn't finish my secondaries and get complete until like Sept 20th. I've heard WSU drags the cycle out longer than most and the fact that last year they interviews 1/3 of all IS applicants really is giving me some hope here. Just want to get out of the blasted heat down here in the south and back to MI. Come on WSU don't fail us!!

Does Wayne State accept application updates?

According to MSAR out of 2400 OOS applicants, 150 get interviews, and 50 matriculate. So is it safe to say that about 50% of OOS students who interview will get accepted?

I think the general rule is that accepted students = 2 x matriculants If I'm not mistaken. But isnt Wayne interviewing a lot more people this year? Anyone know how many more?

How do you know they are interviewing a lot more this year, I hear d about that too, but on what basis are you claiming that? I have heard they are doing 1000 this year, but Im not sure how reliable the source is!!! I would like to know about that too!

I'm not sure, I have no facts to back it up. but earlier in this thread there were some people talking about how some admissions people said 1000 will be interviewed this year. But Wayne State gets 4-5k applications a cycle, so interviewing 20-25% of applicants seems a bit too much

Anyone else creeping on their status in the portal to see if they accepted and updated?
