Hi All,

This may be a stupid question but I can't find a decent answer anywhere. First time applicant here and just getting used to SDN. I know that we can submit our for the Fall of 2019 cycle starting in the first week of June but can you access AMCAS beforehand to enter in your information so that you're ready on the 1st or is it all done on the 1st?

Also, does anyone have any good articles or posts to read about what to expect on application day? i.e. Thoughts, suggestions on how to be organized, etc?

Thanks!

You can open the 2017-2018 AMCAS application and fill it out (if it is still available). But you won't be able to submit since the application cycle is closed.

Then make sure you bookmark the log-in page because when the 2018-2019 cycle opens on May 1, 2018 you will not be able to find this cycle's log in page using the search function.

Then when the May 2018 cycle opens, you can open the old application and copy and paste many of the info into the 2018-2019 app to save time.

EDIT: Nevermind. It looks like AAMC changed their log in page. Don't know if my advice above works anymore.

As stated above, you can begin working on your app May 1st, but you can't actually submit until June. You don't have to submit it the first day it opens, so there isn't really an "application day." When you can access your app May 1st, you will see what you need to work on and will have ample time to do so before you can begin to submit. I would just have your LOR's in order. I used Interfolio so I had my LOR's saved on there prior to the beginning of the cycle. I would also suggest having the dates and hours of your EC's, work experience, and shadowing experiences all one word document to make it easier to access when inputing information. You could also look through MSAR to get an idea of the programs you want to apply to. Work on your personal statement if you haven't already, work on how you will explain your EC's, pick a few that you found most meaningful and write out why they were. Aside from that, I can't really think of anything I would have done differently. Of course applying early gives some increase in chances, but if you submit the first day it opens vs later that month, I don't think it will make much of a difference, if at all. Best of luck, hope this helps!

Alright people, why are there two of these available to choose from still given it's June 2018? I'm assuming the top one for "Application for 2019 Year" is the one to fill out if you want to apply to start med school in the fall of 2019? Thanks!

Yes that is correct. did you open AMCAS last year just to look? If so they created a 2018 record for you.

Gotcha, I have absolutely no memory of opening it last year, but hey! I guess I did! Thanks a bunch.
