As expected, there was a large influx of IR applicants over the last 3 years with an overall similar number of spots. So not only is IR insanely competitive, but now DR is considerably more competitive too.

US seniors doesn’t include DO and IMG right? So that probably means weaker US seniors are being outcompeted by those two factions.

925 US seniors ranked a PGY-2 DR program.
965 PGY-2 DR positions were available.
665 US seniors matched to a PGY-2 DR program.

The other 260 US seniors (925 minus 665) could have had any one of the following outcomes:

1. matched to PGY-1 DR program (up to 73)
2. matched to PGY-2 IR/DR program (up to 101)
3. matched to PGY-1 IR/DR program (up to 30)
4. matched to PGY-2 radiology-nuclear medicine (up to 1)
5. matched to a non-radiology specialty (which they may or may not have preferred over radiology)
6. did not match to anything

US senior also does not include US MDs who have already graduated, which includes graduates who did not match in the past as well as residents who are switching specialties.

Not sure why you compared it to 2015. Comparing this year to 2018 you clearly see it's decreased in competitiveness...

Comparing with 2018 makes more sense. I know someone didn't match and no soap position last year, made decision to change specialty and matched this year, who would anticipate such a fluctuation.

This does not really seem like that big of a dip. Am I wrong? Perhaps when the NRMP releases all the stats/research information for acceptances, we will see that nothing really changed.

As someone who hopes to match in a couple years, I hope it is dipping
