The staff does get weary, but unless it is a rude or repeated contact, it is unlikely for the committee to become aware.
I don't think it can hurt, and, they are kind of asking for it by not providing any updates or transparency. OTOH, other than creating an illusion for yourself that you are actually accomplishing something, it's pointless. I don't know of any school that doesn't share information, except on request, at which point they are extremely forthcoming. 😎
I mean, annoying an admissions office can definitely hurt dont get that confused. But just simply asking once if their is waitlist movement is not going to do it. Should be fine.

I am worried about how I am going to rewrite things. I put so much effort and time into them during the first go around, what is there for me to write differently? I pretty much put forth my best experiences and insights into my essays/activities/personal statement, it's not as if I have new motivations and goals. I have a couple of new experiences, but all the major lessons learned are pretty much the same.

Nope. That rule of thumb is to be COMPLETE by Labor Day -- primary, secondary, MCAT, LORs. The catch is, while many things are within your control, secondaries are NOT. Some come immediately after primary submission. Others take weeks, as schools space them out to control workflow. And, of course, still others never come at all.
Last year was a cluster f*** of epic proportions due to the unanticipated global situation, as you know from having gone through it. This year could not possibly be anywhere near as bad, no matter how much traffic there is.

And desperate. What's above intent? Nothing! Sending anything else after that really is just signalling desperation. It's not going to hurt, but the LOI didn't move them, so, as @Earthworm Slim astutely points out, it's superfluous.
Lol this whole process is wild. I was advised to not send anything else to the school after I sent my letter of intent. I have heard that an additional rec letter could be helpful at this point in the process but I'm sure that is school-specific as well.
sorry to double-post, but i've received lots of mixed feedback as to whether the PS needs to be completely rewritten for the reapplication or only modified/updated...would love to know what others have heard on this front.
The reason I ask is since I sent the LOI well before the April 30th deadline, and the school can see that I am PTE at another school (I had no other acceptances when I sent the LOI). I don't want them to think I moved on and will just go with the acceptance I have at this point in the cycle.

Kind of piggy backing off this, does anyone think it would be beneficial to inform an MD school I am WL at that I have an A from a DO program? I sent in a letter of intent to the MD program a while back because that is where I would rather go but didn't say anything about the DO acceptance. Since the MD and DO systems are completely separate I don't think the MD school knows I have an A. Do you guys think it would be beneficial or harmful to let them know?
No, they won't care about you holding a DO acceptance.
I don't think schools prefer one over the other. On the one hand, with an acceptance in hand, WL schools know you were desirable to other schools which is good, but with no acceptances, they know you will accept and matriculate (since you have no other options) which is good for their yield.
I totally get it. You did everything right. Being PTE at another school does not mean you moved on. What else are you supposed to do on or after 4/30 when you receive an A from another school? Being CTE at another school and sending them a letter rescinding your LOI and withdrawing from the WL would make them think you moved on.
Not really. The last week or two before classes begin they might prefer someone with no As, so they don't have to deal with someone needing to make a decision when they are in a rush to fill a seat, but, otherwise, they generally just want the people they rank most highly, without regard to whatever else they might or might not have.

I emailed the school I am on the WL for and asked if there has been any waitlist movement thus far and they responded promptly and positively saying there has been movement. I don't think it's inappropriate to ask, especially if a school hasn't sent out any information. It won't help you but it won't hurt and would be nice to know.
