My mood swings are really exhausting. Sometimes I feel hopeful (about life in general, not necessarily about an A), grateful for what I still have regardless of this application cycle, generally happy and able to have fun. Then sometimes I feel angry and wronged. Then yet again at other times, I feel really sad and helpless and feel like it's hard to find meaning in life. I probably need professional help, but I guess depression and learned helplessness have a way of making you ignore things or put them off.

It crosses my mind from time to time but I know that this is what I want and if that means freezing my eggs, surrogacy or even adoption in the future then that is what it shall be.
 
Does anyone else check their AMCAS every now and then to see if the Choose Your Medical School Tool has glitched and you somehow have an acceptance?

Or is that just me? Haha is that too much?

Plz tell me I’m not crazy 🥺👉👈

a lot of insurances are offering free online therapy right now due to covid, so reach out to one if u think u could benefit from talking to someone. they can help put everything into perspective. my therapist rocks and makes it just a little easier to take it a day at a time

Happens to the best of us... feel free to DM! Just know that its a temporary situation and medicine is not all that life has to offer.
 
I apologize if this is a silly question but I do not have access to a pre-med counselor so I figured you guys would know. If I have taken all of my pre-requisites is it worth it to pursue a post-bacc or is that for people needing to complete those courses? Just trying to leave no stone unturned in case I do not get an A.
 
AITA for not feeling bad when people who already hold an acceptance complain about not getting their top choice. Have lots of friends who know I have nothing still venting to me about how they want to get off their T10 WL and how they worked too hard to go mid tier. sorry but i dont feel bad....

As long as you don’t make those people feel bad for being in that situation and just keep it to yourself

Not at all. I get that the process is stressful for folks, but they really do need to read the room. If its affecting your mental health though, I would suggest you tell your friends that you can't handle med school talk (like broadly speaking) atm!

I wouldn't unless u have consistent Cs. If anything depending on your cGPA and BCPM I would suggest a Masters in Biomedical Science. Some schools will also offer you guaranteed interviews at their school if you do well in their Masters.

I only have 2 C's for my BS and those were my freshman year, all my sciences are B/A. I got my undergrad in public health, would getting a masters in that help me overall?

Couldn't agree more! MBS programs help demonstrate your ability to perform well in medical school classes only if the curriculum is well designed. If you're GPA is a <3.2 i would say absolutely. If its a >3.5 but your MCAT is 512+ and strong ECs and LORs then no. I'd do something else to strengthen my overall application.

Nah you're totally valid. I had to set a boundary re: not talking about med admissions with a friend who was applying for a little because they were so stressed that they had two A's in the fall that were both offering them $$ but they hadn't been interviewed at a T10 yet.
We broached the topic again recently and they told me I was "lucky" I might "get to reapply" because "I could get into my dream school" since they're not that excited about their school. Like dude you have an MD A at at T50 you're gonna be a doctor I would cry with joy if I had that.

MCAT is a 500 (not great I know, my FLs were 506-508 the nerves got me, and then the burnout took over so I am studying again). My letters are from all Dr's that I have worked with for years and are a diverse group of providers of different specialties and levels I have 680 hours of hands-on shadowing and volunteer with crisis response and already work in healthcare.

Forget about expensive Masters! All you gotta do is improve your MCAT score a bit 🙂 This is great bc MCAT can be improved for FREE! But yea, it seems like your weakness is MCAT, not GPA

Feel free to PM us to discuss further. Ofc I am no expert, but I have learned from my failures and have spoken to adcom members at roughly 10 institutions so I can give u a thorough answer from what I have acquired over the past few years. Add @Julatteluver too if they don't mind

On AMCAS you can search post bacs for improving GPA, career change into medicine, or filling prerequisites. If your GPA and cGPA are not competitive, it might make sense to complete a GPA-boosting post bac. Just don’t retake classes you’ve already taken. Med schools want to see that you can do well in new science classes, not classes you’ve taken more than once.

Poaching PTE's is acceptable behavior. Poaching CTE's gets some folks riled.

Definitey my WL school haha. They seem like they have a preference for people who already have an A, which makes sense in some regards, but I'm hoping as the dust settles they'll offer a spot in the class to people without any other A's!!

Out of curiosity, how would a school poach another school's CTE when CTE is so much more binding than PTE?

Just contact the student and observe that they remained on a waitlist after CTE, then ask if they would consider an offer.

They do know right now, and have known since 4/30. They don't care. Remember, they know who on the WL is PTE elsewhere.

They all want whoever they deem is the best candidate. The successive waves ultimately sort themselves out.
 
Does anyone know if we have PTE’d somewhere else if we have less of a chance of getting off a waitlist?

It's honestly NOT that they have a preference for people with As. It only seems that way. The reality is that they don't care one way or the other. They are just picking whoever they think is best. As has been said before, ultimately every open seat will result in someone, somewhere, who does not already have an A receiving one.

PTE has very little effect at this time.

Also, is it common practice to lose eligibility for scholarships if you're accepted off the waitlist? I was accepted off the waitlist to one of my top schools with a 90-100k annual CoA...but I also have a full ride offer to another school that I don't like as much 🙁 Ugh...is all hope lost?

Edit: This is a smidgen insensitive. I'm so sorry. That was not my intent in the least. I'm very grateful, but just a little conflicted and had a brief moment of sleep-deprived panic.
