For those accepted, have you gotten the official follow up email yet?

I got the Waitlist email which strongly encourages to write of letter of intent. So I'm speculating they are gonna expect movement with the Waitlist.

I think they are definitely accepting high stats applicants first and waitlisting average to low stats applicants.
not completely true... if you scroll back to a few weeks ago, some with lower stats got accepted (mid 500's MCAT score). we dont really know why they waitlist or reject applicants to the greatest extent but I do understand where you are coming from.

Can any student explain the state of being waitlisted at KCU-COM? When can I expect to hear back and when does the movement start? When should I send in a Letter of intent? Feel free to answer as much as you know
Waitlist movement is usually late spring through the summer. KCU is notorious for filling spots up to the last minute. Send in an LOI after you have finished your interview cycle and if/when you know that KCU is your top choice.

Mid 500’s (504-509) MCAT is considered competitive for DO schools and KCU‘s average MCAT for last years incoming class was 507. Most people that have posted with an Acceptance have MCAT scores close to it. Looking back on this thread, I don’t recall anyone with an acceptance that has a MCAT less than 504. Either a Rejection or Waitlist but I could be wrong cause there are 22 pages to look through.

Since KCU is considered one of the top DO schools, applicants with high stats are going to apply to KCU along with other top DO schools and pretty much any MD school. For a business prospective, it’s almost better to give out Acceptances to high stat applicants with MCATs greater than 510 and waitlist those with lower stats. The applicants with higher stats will eventually turn it down once they get a MD acceptance and KCU will benefit from it if they are able to get the the deposit fee. KCU won’t benefit from lower applicants because they are less likely get MD acceptances and secure a spot and pay the deposit. If the lower applicants were to only get DO acceptances, they will most likely choose KCU over other DO schools due to it being considered a top DO school, unless other factors are involved such as another top DO school and location.

Also accepted into Joplin! Interviewed 10/5 and notified 11/3. Any current or former of students of Joplin can give any tidbits about the campus? (i.e. setting/area, things to do, classes, rotations, etc)

Hit the nail on the head with this one. Definitely knew I was waitlisted because of stats. I did mocks with two physicians who had been on adcoms before and they said I was ready. Definitely felt my interview went well.

My interview is schedued for the end of November. It seems that the class is already full, does it mean I will only be interviwing for a WL position?
KCU accepts students from each and every interview day they give. They informed us that they would not interview people just for WL positions.

Is it too early to write a letter of intent right now? I just got waitlisted at KCU and have an acceptance at another top DO school but would probably choose KCU over it. Would I include the fact that I got an A at the other school?

I would send in an LOI if your interview cycle is over. Waitlist movement doesn't start until late spring so you have time. I'm iffy on it is advisable to mention another acceptance. I would probably stick to directly confirming your commitment to attending KCU.

Anyone else not able to access the KCU website? I’m trying to interview prep and learn more about the school but the school website is a dead link for me no matter what browser I use 🥲

If you're talking about the kcumb link they sent in the interview email yes that's the incorrect link it's the Kansascity.edu link they sent for the secondary

so if you're waitlisted you're screwed?

Got the A for Kansas City campus today. 502 MCAT

Any waitlists? Also what were the stats for those accepted and those who were waitlisted?

so when have other accepted people received the email from admissions outlining next steps?

I have a 3.7-8 UGPA and a 504-5 MCAT and I got waitlisted, so perhaps another aspect of my app (such as my interview) did not go so well.

With all the talk being said, I really think KCU appears mission based. I think it’s really easily to extrapolate MCAT cut offs but it’s never that easy.

I have a 507, which I personally wouldn’t consider “high” but was interviewed and accepted early.

I’m not sure about that, I fit their mission to a T

I hear ya. I think there are always constraints, but just based on my app as a singular case, they seem to care less about MCAT compared to some other high ranking schools.

I think you’re both right. The issue is that these admissions committees use rubrics that only they are privy to. Some of them literally award points based on MCAT, GPA, interview, mission, etc. so you have to score enough in each category to be accepted. Basically, stats alone won’t get you in and no matter how impressive the rest of your application is, low stats won’t get in either. That’s why they can say they perform a “holistic” review.

Any group chats set up yet for accepted KCU-KC students

Not sure why whenever I searched on the internet about "best osteopathic schools", KCU is never in the list. However, whenever I asked that on SDN or reddit, a lot of ppl say KCU is one of the best, so why is that? what happened to those rankings, not just one, none has KCU somehow.. I wonder why??

There’s a thread about this somewhere on here. Apparently the websites that have DO rankings don’t really know what they’re talking about since there’s no formal rankings like MD schools. It’s basically click bait. I’ve also read on here that when applying to residency it doesn’t really matter which DO school you go to unless they have some type of connection to the program you’re applying to. Typically established DO schools will be able to help you network easier and have better rotations than new DO schools, and KCU is one of the original 5 schools. I’ve heard KCU has fantastic rotations compared to other schools, but I can’t really speak much on this. If I was trying to get into the DO school that had the best chance of getting into my specialty of choice, I’d go look at their matches from the previous years and go from there.

Going off of this - I looked at match lists and there is a PDF of DO schools with accreditation status. You will find some like KCU are accredited with a higher ranking

I saw that too. I wonder if it actually makes a difference.. that being said the match stats for KCU are comforting and I personally know students who matched into very competitive residencies
