Hey, does anyone know if the 1st essay about choosing a career path is also available for MD/PhD applicants? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

2. Are you planning to matriculate into medical school immediately after completing your undergraduate education? If not, please explain what activities and/or careers you have pursued in the time between your college education and your application.(short answer)

Prompt #2 seems to be covered in the 'Planned Activities' section of the Primary Application. So should I just repeat the same things again? Also, it says 'short answer' but provides no character limit. Any idea how short of an answer they are looking for?

No choice since they ask the same question. It can be a sentence or two

For MD-PhD applicants: Has anyone noticed that on the "welcome" page of the secondary, it reads "The MSTP requires at least one reference letter, preferably from your most recent mentor, dealing directly with your experiences, abilities and potential as a researcher. The names of all individuals who will provide a letter should be listed on your supplemental application with the most recent experience listed first.

However, when you are given instructions to enter your letter writers, it says "The M.D./Ph.D. application requires at least one reference letter directly dealing with your experience and potential as a researcher. The reference letter(s) should be from a research supervisor....Please enter the information of your Research Experience Letter Provider below."

It seems to me that they only want to you to list which of your letters are from previous PI's under this section, while the welcome page appears to be asking for information of all letter writers. Am I missing something here?

Just out of curiosity, why are they asking the same economic status questions that are in the primary in the beginning of the secondary. Do we think they are actually using this to evaluate an applicant or just for research purposes?

super-nontrad here
how long do i go into essay #2?

it's unlimited but no idea how long to go
tried calling, they told me to email. then i emailed, then got no response.
it says short answer.

I assume if you have a lot to cover, you have to try to stick to dates and jobs. Do you see a space restriction? try pasting an essay and see where it cuts you off.

prompt as it shows for me:
- Are you planning to matriculate into medical school immediately after completing your undergraduate education? If not, please explain what activities and/or careers you have pursued in the time between your college education and your application.

it doesn't say short answer.
I tried pasting a 6000 character response and it worked

sorry if i wasnt clear.
I was going by what was pasted in the prompts.

It is still not advisable to post your entire resume because there is space.
It is meant to cover the coming year's activities (2025-2026). Rest of it could be short descriptions of work done for each position.

If anyone can tell me if there is an actual character limit on this prompt I will update it.

I'm not on any admission committees.
In my opinion, if a school gives you only 1000 to 2000 characters for its 2 main essays, go with that general length or less for this gap year prompt

what are the specific questions?

1. Educational expenses have been paid by: (Include undergraduate and graduate school expenses. Enter 0 if not applicable. Sum percentage must total 100%)
2. Were you required to contribute to the overall family income as opposed to working primarily for your own discretionary spending money while attending High School and College?

This is a financial status evaluation to determine need based scholarships.

If borrowed during undergrad or had to work thru to pay your own way or if you are supporting a family while studying.

I received an email from Baylor saying that after a review of my application, I did not meet the prerequisites, and they requested that I reply with any other courses I am planning to take (I graduated last year). I'm sure that I have met the prereqs, though. The only thing that might've caused confusion is that I have 2 transcripts from transferring colleges. I am planning to send an email replying with a list if the prerequisites I have taken, but am not sure if they will accept my application for reconsideration. Has this happened to anyone else in the past, and how was the situation resolved?

The time is now to clarify your transcript with them.
Be aware that they do not accept AP credits to fulfill any of their prereqs, even English

I understand, and thanks for letting me know; hopefully it is just a misunderstanding.

After emailing Baylor admissions, it turns out that they do not accept coursework completed at a university prior to high school graduation, even if the course was accepted on your transcript for college credit. It won't be too hard to make up my course this year, but to anyone in the future who is wondering if this will be an issue with Baylor, yeah

Thanks for sharing the information with everyone.
I knew Baylor did not accept AP credits and this rule about not taking dual enrollment credits is likely a similar wish, to be sure you have learned a subject at a collegiate level.

Hey there! I'm currently considering two options, but I'm not sure what the almighty adcoms want.

1. I was in a leadership role (not elected, appointed by a faculty member of our HPAC) for a non-club pre-med program. In this role, I was a mentor to students in the program and those applying. I would co-lead monthly program meetings with the other leader, hold office hours for students in the program for MCAT prep, and give feedback on applicant essays and mock interview them so they had the best chance possible of getting into the program. I also made efforts to build community through socializing outside of mandatory meetings and connecting newer members with older members to facilitate mentorship.
2. I've gotten into three car accidents over the past three years (none of them my fault, for 2/3 I was at a literal full stop), and every time I dealt with mental fogginess, issues with getting to campus and volunteering, and fought with the at-fault drivers' insurance to get care. I'd probably just write about one of the sets. The first two were during my sophomore year and happened within a week of each other, the severe one breaking my mom's sternum and ER doc refused to do a CT scan so they missed it until she came back the next day. The other one happened right before a Biochem exam and two weeks before my wedding (don't plan on talking about that part in the essay, but the timing sucked lol), and the pain made it hard to sit and study for the MCAT. Important to note that I worked really hard to not let any of this impact my grades or MCAT score so this wouldn't have the advantage of contextualizing an academic road bump.

I could write strong essays about both, but I don't know if adcoms would like a semi-unique leadership experience that shows my commitment to community building and mentorship or a "sob story" that shows I can not only overcome obstacles, but have empathy for patients who advocate for themselves and their struggles with insurance. I think the leadership one may stand out a bit more because I feel like most applicants have overcome significant obstacles on their journey to medicine and many will be using the space to explain academic road bumps. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! 😊

Looks like today is the next wave of II. Good luck to everyone!
If you look at last year's schedule, Baylor sent II every Tuesday from late July to mid October. 2023 and 2022 were mostly Tuesdays as well.
