2025-2026 Nova MD Secondary Essay Prompts

All 4000 characters

1) Please provide an example that indicates your ability to function effectively as a productive member of a team working toward a common objective. Elaborate on leadership roles you held in this capacity and how you solved problems that arose. Indicate highlights learned from this experience.

2) Please share some personal examples of problem solving in a team environment and/or leadership experience that would lead to your success in a Problem Based Learning environment.

3) At the NSU MD program, we value the unique perspective that each applicant brings. Identify any traits, life experiences, or interests that a professor or advisor would not normally know about you.

4) How has your academic work beyond the “traditional” pre-medical school requirements (i.e., introductory biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and introductory physics) prepared you for medical school and for a career in medicine? Please highlight any service-learning activities that align with humanism in medicine.

5) Have you encountered significant personal or professional challenges that have shaped your motivation to pursue a career in medicine and service to others?

6) If applicable, please describe how your experience with challenges has informed your perspective, decision-making, or approach to helping others. You may include reflections on your educational path, life experiences, or other formative events. If not applicable, please type NA.

7) Do you have any gaps or inconsistencies in either academic or standardized test performances throughout your undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate career?

If you answered yes to the previous question, please explain. If you have selected no, please type NA.

8) Is there a time gap between earning your last degree (baccalaureate or other) and the expected time of your medical school matriculation?

If you answered yes to the previous question, please explain. If you have selected no, please type NA.

9) Have you previously applied to any medical school (M.D., D.O., international)?

If yes, please explain what steps you have taken to improve your overall application profile for this admissions cycle. If you have selected no, please type NA.

Good luck to all applying!

Secondary is brief

> How did you learn about osteopathic medicine?

> List and briefly describe your significant health care-related volunteer activities since graduation from high school.

> If you were employed during the regular school year (excluding summers) while in undergraduate or graduate school, please list dates of employment beginning with your current position along with title or job description, level of responsibility, and number of hours per week.
oops this is the Nova MD page but I will move your info over to the DO page. Thanks!

According to the "Primary Application Information" they don't start reviewing primary applications until August 01, 2025. This can be found here Medical School Admission Requirements™ Reports for Applicants and Advisors
true, but if they send secondaries to everyone, which i believe they do, then they might send secondaries before this date still. for example, emory's date is august 1 on this document, but i received a secondary already. still, this is a useful document

So if we are not answering prompt 5, can we still answer prompt 6? I feel like it would be useful to talk about our reflections from challenges, but I do not have any challenges that were significant enough to answer Q5
Ya it is a little odd. Additionally, if you are a reapplicant, I feel like for 8 and 9 you're saying the same thing

How long did it take you all to receive the payment link? I submitted my application on July 25 and still have not received the link.

Hey guys! I know it is still very early in the cycle, but I am an M2 at NSU MD. Feel free to HMU with any questions you all might have about the school, curriculum, etc. 🙂

Anyone having issues with the secondary payment portal not allowing you to click Allopathic medicine as an option?

4000 characters is a lot! I am going to be reusing some secondaries from other applications, do you think its okay if not all the essays are close-ish to 4000 characters?
Hey! If you have a story that can fit 4000 characters, then go ahead. Otherwise, I would shoot for 2000-2500 characters, maybe 3000 characters. But remember: a short but quality essay is better than a long but drawn out one.

English proficiency hold? 😅 I emailed them, but they have not responded. I can see that there is a pending asterisk indicating that English proficiency has not been received. I know 127 in CARS isn't the best score, but I think it's fair to say I speak well despite it being my second language. Also, their website states that there is no need to verify if the person has already completed a bachelor's degree in the US (which I have). Anyone on the same boat?

I just saw this on the website for admissions requirements. I don't have this so looks like this school is gonna be a donation.

Experience Hour Requirements:
  • Medically-related experiences that demonstrate a realistic understanding of the medical profession
    • Minimum 1,000 medically related hours, including 300 direct clinical exposure
  • Non-medically related experience
    • Minimum 500 non-medically related hours

I don't have 500 non-medically related hours, but I received the Kira talent link today.

Anyone here also apply to the DO school and the MD school says submitted and the DO says completed? Interesting discrepancy.

Their portal is the most confusing one. They still have me as pending proof of English proficiency. I submitted early but could not find the payment link and forgot about it. They emailed me saying that I had payment pending and I answered apologizing for the delay and asking about the English proficiency proof but no one answered me. I checked the portal recently and I also had pending photo upload. Check periodically because you won’t receive portal update emails.
