Can someone make sure I understand the numbers right? They've offered 1528 interviews, and 518 acceptance offers. Based on last year's number let's say they have about 100 acceptance offers left to give (620 total) for the roughly 1010 people on the waitlist. So odds are pretty slim now.

1010 people do not sit on the waitlist lol, that’s a little absurd. It’s historically 500-600. Some people have reported post-II Rs but typically those happen all at once in the springCan someone make sure I understand the numbers right? I remember seeing earlier in this thread someone remarked they made less offers last cycle than they usually do, because they overfilled the class two cycles ago. Every year before last they made around 700 offers or more, so there could be close to 200 more up for grabs. Who knows tho

Yeah I agree, it’s just really dependent on who says yes to Wayne, which is always variableI remember seeing earlier in this thread someone remarked they made less offers last cycle than they usually do, because they overfilled the class two cycles ago. So A's off the WL can come out any day from now until May, not necessarily on one Thursday per month?

Yes to the first part, no to the second. They can take off the WL up till orientation but a majorly of movement is May after CTESo A's off the WL can come out any day from now until May, not necessarily on one Thursday per month?

OOS pre ii R submitted in August and never heard a peep til today
Anyone know how IS vs OOS WL movement works, and if that's connected to the higher OOS post-II acceptance rate? Or if they seem to value LOIs/LOCIs?
Like I believe some schools maintain separate WLs ie will accept an IS student from the WL when another IS withdraws. But I saw that Wayne's class of 2029 was 28% OOS while '28 was 46%, so it's prob not like that if there's that much IS vs OOS fluctuation from year to year?

well, probably not officially but how else are they pulling people off? Random selection?they did say in the email that the WL is unranked
letter of continued interest! I figure they aren't one of the schools that reallyyy wants to hear from applicants, since a lot of people seem to get off the WL without submitting anything, but was just curious if anyone knows how the submitted documents/updates factor into reviewwhat is a LOCI? im unsure if wayne values the LOIs at all

Likely tagged each person with different factors of their application that they continue to compare to pick to fill their class quotas (in experiences, profiles, etc.). But this is all speculation based on what I’ve read from other adcomswell, probably not officially but how else are they pulling people off? Random selection?

because they arent goint to offer everyone on the waitlist a spot? Providing a decision in a reasonable amount of time seems like a professional and considerate thing to do for people with multiple acceptances or who may have to apply next cycle to have a decision so that they can plan accordingly.no? why would they
Here's my answer to your question.because they arent goint to offer everyone on the waitlist a spot? Providing a decision in a reasonable amount of time seems like a professional and considerate thing to do for people with multiple acceptances or who may have to apply next cycle to have a decision so that they can plan accordingly.
If some applicants are still holding on to more than one acceptance until pressed to choose their "1 and only" by April 30, the majority of the WL offers will occur after April 30 when these applicants drop their surplus seats. Schools will go to their WL then, and have no reason to reject people from the WL right now.

yeah but they would first accept people off of it rather than reject and i think most schools just send waitlist rejections in mass waves in like June/July.because they arent goint to offer everyone on the waitlist a spot? Providing a decision in a reasonable amount of time seems like a professional and considerate thing to do for people with multiple acceptances or who may have to apply next cycle to have a decision so that they can plan accordingly.
Well I was wondering if they just waitlisted or accepted everyone after an interview and then they narrowed down their waitlist sometime in the spring. I just haven’t seen any more than 3 people who were rejected after an interview and there is no way their waitlist is a thousand people
Well there are 500 people already accepted and 600 go on the waitlist so yeah, no one gets rejected.Well I was wondering if they just waitlisted or accepted everyone after an interview and then they narrowed down their waitlist sometime in the spring. They interview over 1500 though so is that other 400 rejected immediately after interviewing or are they put on the waitlist and then rejectedWell there are 500 people already accepted and 600 go on the waitlist so yeah, no one gets rejected.
people just be saying thingsthere seems to be this idea on here and on the Other Website that the waitlist is a lot longer than ever historically done by Wayne and I’m unsure why

I believe that is the assumption based on higher number of total applications. However if you look at previous class profiles on WSUs website, They have historically had several years in which they had fewer total applicants with similar numbers of conducted interviews.there seems to be this idea on here and on the Other Website that the waitlist is a lot longer than ever historically done by Wayne and I’m unsure why
I do believe that the Wayne State waitlist is larger than the 600 they list on MSAR.
1528 people have been interviewed this cycle. Of which, 518 have been accepted. Assuming that they WL 600 people that would leave around 410 post-II rejections.
While we don't have all the data there are a few things wrong with this metric:
- We haven't seen many post-II rejections yet. Could this be due to some reporting bias (people could be less likely to report this)? Possibly, but unlikely given ~400 possible post-II rejections there haven't been hardly any posted. This could also be because they keep those possible post-II rejection people to the end with their massive rejection wave ~June. This is hard to say as there isn't any data on this to my knowledge. However, there is some weak anecdotal data through the years in the forums to possibly argue that this is unlikely, but this cannot be ruled out.
Regardless, even if it is 600 people waitlisted (at least) this is a very substantial number. Despite them mentioning that the waitlist is unranked, I believe its not "ranked" but it is stratified with commentary from the admissions committee. They likely keep tabs on what their current accepted pool looks like an try to fill in an deficits based on the WL. For instance, if they take too many OOS they may look for IS people on the waitlist. Same with certain experiences (non-trad, demographics, etc) they may look for these people on the waitlist, again with these "comments" on stratification. Without this commentary, the admissions committee would have to sift through possible 600 people, all again, to find these people, thats why I argue that it is likely stratified, as this would take too much time.
Wayne State, like many medical schools, is a public institution that receives taxpayer funding to operate. In the state of Michigan, due to this public status, certain procedural information, such as the size of the waitlist and general selection processes, may be subject to FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) requests. If individuals are seeking more explicit information about these procedures, they have the legal right to request such information through FOIA.
For procedural structures and general selection processes related to waitlists at public institutions, there is typically no expectation of privacy. This principle applies broadly to public universities. While institutional policies may state otherwise (saying this potential information may not be revealed), internal policies do not supersede the law.
As an aside (before I get a bunch of people dinging me for this post), I recognize that FOIA requests would not reveal admissions committee deliberations, individual applicant information, or confidential evaluation materials, as those are protected under laws such as FERPA. However, FOIA can still provide transparency regarding institutional procedures and policies. For instance, high-level documents describing admissions workflows or waitlist management practices may still be subject to disclosure at public institutions, even if individual decisions remain protected.
--Sincerely speaking as a tired applicant on the WL.
----EDIT: I wanted to revise this (only by adding this EDIT) stating that I was wrong. About a week after writing this, Wayne State has sent some post-II rejections.
