Anyone applying for microsurgery fellowship this year (for 2026 positions) and would like to share information? I don't seem to be able to find a thread like that and would like to connect with fellow applicants.
 
Was searching for a micro fellowship thread to get an idea of which programs have sent out interviews.

I applied to 19 programs and heard back from 5 so far.

How many programs is everyone applying to? I'm starting to feel like I should have applied more broadly...

I added "2025" to the title of the thread as you suggested. Hopefully, more people will chime in.

I applied to 30 programs, primarily because my in-service scores are low and I know I needed to apply broadly.

Are there programs that you like/hope to get into that you haven't received interview invites?
 
I was hoping to get invites from MD Anderson and Memorial Sloan Kettering. They seem like really great programs. Also, they have the most positions out of any program, so seems like chances to match there may be higher...

Yes, i am waiting/hoping to get invites from these two as well. The application deadline for MD Anderson was 03/05. Not sure if they are just taking some time to go over all of the applications or if they have sent out invites but I didn't get selected. MSK doesn't show application deadline, so not sure when we can expect invites (if we are getting one).
 
I feel like they'd probably be interviewing a good number of applicants if they are going for 5-10 candidates per spot. Who knows? Hopefully we hear from them soon🤞. The suspense is killing me!
 
I know! The suspense and wondering if I may get an invite is awful! It feels like back to the days of applying for med school and residency!! Let's keep each other updated here. I will update the list if/when I hear more from other programs.

I know both heavily favor rotators, especially msk, I didn’t rotate at either so I’m not surprised I haven’t heard from msk. Md Anderson I’m not as sure, I’d suspect they’d have to interview a lot of people though

That's unfortunate (for me at least) because our program doesn't have allowance for away rotations in our schedule. I hope that the lack of away rotations at my end won't impede my chances at matching 🙁

Looking at the application deadlines for the various programs, looks like Yale, Brigham and Women's, USC, Cedars-Sinai, and MD Anderson all have deadlines in the first week of March. I don't see them on the list above. Not sure if they haven't sent out invites yet (>2 weeks since their deadlines now) or if they may have and we just didn't know.
 
@BMC2026 thanks so much for chiming in, appreciate it! Please keep us posted when you hear additional updates so we can get this thread up-to-date with info for anyone interested.
 
@BMC2026, thanks! Same interview date for both programs - that will be a challenge but so glad that you are getting all these invites!

I find it interesting that a few programs sent out invites before the posted application deadlines on SF Match...
 
Yes, also interesting that some programs don't even have a stated application deadline while others have deadlines are a month or two later than 03/01. And some programs sent out invites shortly after/immediately after their deadline while others still haven't sent our invites (at least not that we are aware of) even though their deadline was 3 weeks ago. So wild, can't make sense of all these....

How is everyone doing? How many interviews are you guys planning to attend? I am struggling a bit with my program to get time off for interviews but am hesitate to decline any interviews at this point not knowing my odd of matching. Wondering if there is any statistics on how many interviews successful applicants attended in the past.
 
I received a total of 8 interview invites (5 in-person, 3 virtual), so I am attending all of them. For the virtual ones, I come in to work before/after so that I don't have to use my PTO. Had I received more in-person invites, I'd probably have to turn them down as well because I used up most of my PTO.

There were 8 unfilled positions and 85% match rate last year per SF Match statistics, and 16 unfilled positions the year before that! Seems like a pretty good chance of matching somewhere.
 
@dr_mo Thanks for the info. I received a total of 12 interviews (7 in-person, 5 virtual). Have to decline 1 virtual due to same day conflict. I am out of PTO and am considering decline 2 or 3 in-person, but am nervous about possibility of not matching. The SF Match data is interesting. Looks like there were a number of applicants went unmatched each year in the past, and yet at the same time, a number of positions went unfilled.
 
Agree w/ Dr mo, I think there is a pretty good chance of match, and given # total plastic surgery residents in country, it’s not like the applicant pool could be THAT much bigger unless a ton of ppl decided to go into micro (at least, for us grads). I feel like I’ve seen similar people at each interview too. Either way tho- tough to gauge how big the applicant pool is. If you have people at your residency that can reach out on your behalf once you have decided what your #1 is, that will help

Doing 13, 6 IP 7 virtual. Sorry your program doesn’t give you time off- this should be like the most important time for them to give you leave!
 
Same. I ended up going by first impressions and gut feeling. Most of the programs seemed great to me. I had to hold back on making last minute changes... Just a week left and we'll find out😊

Same! I had my rank list, then second guess myself and redid the list, and then second guess myself again and made changes to the rank order. I ended up reverting back to my gut feel and first impression. I tried not to overthink this, but it is hard!
