Someone over in the VMCAS Questions and Rants thread recently posted that there hadn't been a Personal Statement Readers thread created for this current application cycle yet, so I figured that I'd go ahead and do that while it's on my mind.

Since VMCAS now opens up in January, that means there's much more time available for applicants to have their essays read/reviewed/edited than in previous years. Much more time to polish things up and make them as perfect as possible.

To applicants: You can send a PM regarding your essays to any of the members on the Current Readers list! Just the click the mail icon next to your username on the top right navigation bar/menu, and select "Start a new conversation". Then, type the username(s) of the reader(s) who you'd like to contact in the Recipients box.

To readers:
DO NOT ERASE THESE INSTRUCTIONS!
1) Quote the most recent post.
2) Add your SDN username, your credentials, and specific things you are willing to edit for (content only, grammar only, etc) under the "current readers" section. DO NOT post your email address or any other identifying and/or public information.
3) Remove the quote tags.
4) If you are unable to read any more personal statements, please come back and remove your name from the list.

Example:
Username | Vet student/Pre-vet/Veterinarian/whatever | Focus on grammar/readability/content, etc. | Any other pertinent info

CURRENT READERS:

Karchaeopteryx | Former vet student (I would've graduated with the c/o 2020) | I can help out with pretty much anything, but am most proficient in the mechanics of writing: spelling, grammar, basic flow, sentence structure, etc. I'm probably best utilized as a final proofreader. I'm also willing to provide pointers on how to trim the fat in your statement so that it doesn't exceed the VMCAS character limit.

lafrantz1 | Incoming veterinary student (Class of 2026!) | I have extensive experience with proofreading and composition and have received numerous academic achievement awards in advanced composition courses. I can assist with spelling, grammar, content, flow of sentences, etc. (Basically anything you need help with!)

cp210 | Incoming veterinary student (C/O 2026) | I was a non-traditional applicant with a background in communications and PR. I can help with the fundamentals of writing (spelling, grammar, staying within the character limit), as well as any issues that you are having with content (choosing a focal point for your essay, flow, etc.).
