210 too low for pediatrics?

Well I haven't taken my test yet, nor have I taken any practice tests yet, but assuming I do around a 210, can I still get into pediatrics (if the rest of my application is average)? Or is psychiatry my only option at that point?

If you are a US grad then yeah you can get into peds with a 210 for sure. In 2009, 257 people with scores between 201-210 matched peds and only 7 didn't match with scores in that range. Yes, you will absolutely match SOMEWHERE in peds with a 210. I would even go as far as saying a native English speaking IMG will be virtually guaranteed to snag a spot if you apply widely enough.

FYI- Psych is getting more competitive than peds.

Assuming you're a US allo grad, 210 would also give you a shot at anesthesia, general surgery, emergency medicine, and several others.

True, but peds isn't more competitive than psych either. If you look at the Careers in Medicine data, for both 90.4% of US seniors matched in 2010 (670/741 for psych and 1711/1892 for peds).

Average scores around 220, yes, but like all averages 50% of matriculants are below the average. I know my school had people match into EM last year without breaking 200 on Step 1.
