hello, i just want to start a thread w/ ppul getting rejection w/ 22+ DAT and 3.3+ GPA.

Please list the schools you being rejected and ones you got interviews.

Non science major people take less science classes, so if you make one bad science grade it will pull your sgpa down a lot. I'm an anth major...and it looks like they like basket weavers with good science gpa. It says you're well rounded "basket"

I agree with this post. Sorry to burst any bubbles out there but it seems they are interested in well rounded backgrounds as well as high GPAs even if it is not in a science major. It also looks amazing if someone is not a science major, does well in his non-science major, and is top of his class in gen chem, orgo, bio and some upper level bios.

It’s not just grades that are important here. Personality plays a big part. If you’re some socially jaded nerd who never gets out into the general public, you won’t be getting in very many places with a slightly above average GPA/DAT.

they don't know your personality before they interview, so its strictly based on stats (including extra curric.), but their decision AFTER the interview may be influenced by personality.

Hmm...this is strange...most schools dont reject someone with your stats unless they have three or more felony arrests....well how many of them did they convict you on? and if you don't mind what were they for?

no convictions...all pending...in fact, I'm typing from a computer in the hodling cells across from the courthouse cause I stole one of the guards keys.

1) grand theft - stole a kids tricycle...didn't know it was signed by Matt Hoffman so it was actually super expensive...thus the grand theft.
2) mugging a postman on his route and stealing the mailbag (federal property)

Nope. No love here. I bet it is b/c I sent my application in late, then took the DAT the end of August. I am already anticipating that I will apply again this coming June.

if you're going to reapply, you need to somehow strengthen your application. otherwise, you'd write you did jack sht for a year when they ask what you did during the year off. i'm sure you'll get some love from ucla and usc, though. when was your app sent to schools?

I submitted my application the end of June, then I took the DAT the end of August. I would like to do some research and community outreach if I could. But I need to get a job and start paying off some student loans. What about you AnonymousADCOM?

if i don't get in, i'm going to retake the DAT. push it up to your godly sub-scores. i'll get a masters too. i'll probably continue working at my dental office until fall of 2007. i hope i dont have to do that. i'm getting too old for this bs.

i'm not 22+, but i am pretty close, as is my gpa

my plan B is
1. the NYC teaching fellowship - get some $, excellent community service, Masters Program
2. to volunteer like a bastard - i'm talking serious hours here, people
3. apply so early that i am the FIRST application ANY school receives - this way i won't hear "you applied kinda late, you know..." from anyone

my plan C in case NYCTF doesn't pan out
1. start fights with my family a lot
2. develop a dependence on some type of controlled substance
3. volunteer, volunteer, volunteer!
4. again, apply earlier - i feel like this is key for getting the upperhand in this process

i guess its still early, but i only had one interview. improving the application during the extra year off- that's where my minds at right now. can't hurt that way.

I sent in my application in august and took my DATs in sept. Did slightly worse than you on the DATs but GPA is 3.8. I also got rejected by UPenn but have iterviews at all the other schools i applied to. Im beginnig to worry.

AADSAS typically starts the admissions cycle around mid May (approx May 14). You could time your transcripts to arrive on May 17 and they will hold the transcripts until you submit the application.

However, you can't submit a LOR without the matching letter from the application, after the next year's application cycle starts. You could ask all of your writers (sometime in the Spring) to write the letter and to expect a matching letter as soon as they become available-and to send put them in the mail as early as possible.

Im startin to get worried myself. No rejection letters yet but no acceptances either. 2 interviews but have heard nothing from the other 6 schools. 23/21/21, Chemistry major 3.6gpa, 3.7 sci gpa
took a year off after school working for orthodontist will have 1700+ hours of dental assistance experience upon entering.

One other possibility is someone who wrote you a lor screwed you over by bashing you and you have to waive right to look at it or you wont get in.

i have a 3.33 21/21/18 DATs and got rejected this year. However..my DATs are the Canadian version. I am going to write the American DATs this spring and reapply..and im sure I will have better luck.

wow with those stats im surprised to hear that you guys haven't gotten acceptances. i think we need to remember though that all of the acceptances right now (more or less) are out to a handful of people with high DAT scores and GPA and everything else. once the deadlines for responding have arrived, the already selected people will decline and thus open up a bunch of spots which should be offered to you. at least that's my understanding of it.
my advice would be to get research experience, have at least 40 hours of shadowing, do MEANINGFUL community service, like mentoring a kid and not just putting in hours somewhere, and have 2 science professors, one dentist, and one good adult friend write you LORs. turn in the application the day you can b/c it takes like over a month after that for AADSAS to actually send them out from what i remember. my two cents. i wouldn't give up hope though.

You most definitley can submit your letters without a matching form. I didn't use AADSAS for mine. My school has a database that professors send the letters to and then they send them out. You can then send the same letter out as many times as you need it. Or you can send them yourself I believe. I've heard bad things about LOR through AADSAS

no offense to anyone, but a 3.3 isn't a very good GPA...and if i was on ADCOM somewhere, and I saw someone with 3.3 GPA in a biology of some sort with high DATs...i would assume you partied your way through school and just put in a good month or two of studying as apposed to someone with a 3.6 or higher with good DATs. Your DATs and GPA should match, it shows you don't just put in the time when its needed.

I would read it as...."I'm going to party my way through dental school and study really hard for 2 months to pass the boards...."

Your DATs and GPA should match, it shows you don't just put in the time when its needed.

The DAT is also a different animal compared to the types of tests some people may be getting. I mean, multiple choice doesn't really exist in my science classes and we mostly are tested on problem solving based on the details/concepts we're supposed to know. So someone may be really good at recall (DAT) and need some more help with the problem solving (class exams). Doesn't necessarily mean that the person was partying it up and then decided it was time to study.

yea, kids stuff right? and yet it makes you wonder how some people with a 3.9+ gpa can't seem to break an 18 on the thing.


consider this: some of the people on here with 3.3's actually have a life outside of college...many are older and have spouses and children, whereas others are supporting their family/parents physically and/or financially while going to school. not everyone has the time to sit around 24/7 and study like a madman.

lets not generalize here...just because some people on here have a 3.3 doesn't mean they're out partying or that they're just good DAT test takers (i dont really believe you can just be a good DAT taker, this isn't the SAT afterall...). most likely, they are extremely bright, capable students who have the added burden of, you know...responsibility, which is why for these people the DAT is where they shine, where they show the schools that they are indeed bright, despite whatever obstacles they may face academically.


ever wonder why some people with a 3.3 get in and those with a 3.9 don't? thats why...because they have life experience...so lets be a little more understanding, yea?

Rereading my post, i realize that the way i worded my statement was probably wrong. I didn't mean to offend anyone, and you're right i didn't take into account family situations. I was just saying that someone could study an 1-2 hours a day for 4-6 weeks and do fine on the DAT, at least based on my own experience along with friends who took it as well. My statements applied more for people who don't work during school. It's just that i know a lot of people who still do well in school w/o much studying, and can still party 3-4 nights per week, but i realize that can be difficult when you work and have a family. By the way, i wasn't implying that someone with a 3.3 party's all the time. Different schools, with diff majors, with diff professors have classes that require different amounts of work. I just remember in classes like organic where you could easily forget how to draw a synthesis reaction, but on the DAT you can at least narrow it down. Again, sorry to anyone i offended.
