I started my summer DAT grind, and I am studying with the intent to get a 23+. I was hoping that some of you hard working and "made" individuals could step up and volunteer what you did and how you did it in regards to doing well on this examination.

I saw the 20 and up thread, but by percentile it is obvious that a 23+ student is in a much different bracket. I understand that your DAT draws no parallels to your intelligence, and I am asking for the students with this score to instruct me and the other browsers how much and what they studied in preparation to take the test.

Thanks in advance.

I took a 3 month Kaplan course that met once a week. I spent 2 weeks while doing the Gateway to Dentistry program reading over the chapters I fell behind on in the sciences. Then I spent a long 3 day weekend going over every last bio, gen chem, and orgo question online and in the book I had (all Kaplan material). Any question that I either got wrong or took a guess on, I would look at the explanation and see why the wrong answers were wrong and the right answer was right.

Reading comp I just did a couple practice tests so that I could establish my own way of finishing the section. Do whatever works for you. You want to find a good mix of time management and getting the right answers.

PAT I just took all the practice tests and worked on time management.

I can't help you with study habits on QR since I'm a math major and it always comes naturally to me. I always finished with 5+ minutes left. On the DAT itself I finished with 20 minutes, so maybe it's easier on the actual test.

As you can see, my biggest concern was the science section, so that's where most of my studying was focused. Everything else was time management.

Hope that helps.

I memorized Kaplan and did TopScore. I took every topic seriously and just kept at it. Got me above a 23...you can do it.

I'm part of this exclusive 23+ club. By the way, the means *all* my scores were 23 and up. Very different than getting one good score in a section and a 18 on reading comprehension.

As for how I studyed? Often and hard. For 3 months, solid. At least 7 hours a day, 1 day break per week. My advice? Surf less, study more.

Best of luck. 🙂 👍:luck::luck:

Princeton Review and TOpscore for me. Just bust your a$$ off for couple weeks before your test. it'll all be worth it in the end 😀

This is a good thread, but it is in the wrong forum. Check out the DAT thread, lots of good information there.

Darn...I'm not part of your club anymore, I had 1 under 23...

Do you honestly feel better about yourself by going on here and bragging...come on...

Wizzie, get used to this mentality and take it w/ a grain of the salt. some of your classmates in d-school will exhibit this same "tooting of their horn:laugh:"

I'm sorry but I can't help it...here come the spelling police. If you are going to brag about how you got above a 23 on each section (esp RC), at least use spell check to make it believable.

oh, and dont plan on sleeping much for the month before your test.

Uh oh... here comes the inconsistent DAT score police....
Jeninny44 in a prior post....
"Wow. When I took the DAT in 2005 for the 2006-2007 cycle my 21 TS was 97th percentile. Looks like the competition is getting fiercer every year."
vs...

According to my DAT math prep... 23>21... aka... you lie...
zing!

Relax sarge. I just got bored watching my Yanks get crushed again and had some time to blow up the spot of someone who was ridiculously irritating... Now I'll go back to my night of acting all grown up... maybe sip some scotch and read the economist... cheers!

Yeah, those Yanks are doing a bang-up job this year. At least they're finally ahead of the Rays. Moving in the right direction.

And you still can't touch my 28. I win. TWICE.

Kaplan's BB, Barron, DAT Achiever, Campbell for Bio, Mortimer for Gen Chem, and Carey for Organic Chem. 😛

Bio I wasn't that hot but not too shabby... but did get a 29 in orgo... How bout a truce? 👍

Only if I get a "Papi's my pappy" out of you 😉

if he leads off the 9th with a walkoff homer its a deal

Strategically,
You can aim to get really high scores on subjects you are really good at cause that will help you get 23 TS or AA. A 29 on one subject on the DAT will help the average out dramatically. It also makes you look good even if you get a couple of scores in the 18-19 average range.

When I studied for my DAT, I looked at a couple of different DAT guides and see what topics they focused on. Then I go to my text books and extract more information just to make sure I have a solid understanding of the subjects.

What you could do also is to take short naps during your study sessions as well as do about 30 mins of cardio. I find that it really help me focus and avoid glazing over the pages... (you know when you kind of suddenly realized you finished a chapter but have no idea what you just read...)

Good luck!

so annoying.

anyway, here are my scores. 2 20s, 1 22, 2 21s, and 1 28. i'm not part of this exclusive club but i think i could have made it if i spent more than 2 weeks studying for it really hard. i recommend spending your summer studying kaplan, destroyer, topscore and achiever. make them yours. you should get 25+. have fun.

the fact that jeninny44 lied or not isnt as important as (to me at least) the fact that she/he pointed out that you will need to study a ton, and GET off the net (which I need to do after this).

good tips never the less.

I think the majority of the people here will agree on the basic study method:

Kaplan, destoryer, topscore, achiever, that one bio. book (yea, i am being very specific here). study those them, sleep with them 😴, know them inside out, and you should be fine.

But anyone else have additional materials/method they used that has not been mentioned?
