I just finished UWSA1 and I don't know how to interpret my score since I hear it overestimates...

I hit 220 on NBME 5 a while back while I was still in school to check my baseline, then I didn't study boards stuff until I got out of school last week. I've been studying hard for the past 6 days, and I'm about 1/2 way through my first pass of first aid. I have some obvious weak areas I haven't covered yet, but I'm ~3.5 weeks out from my test and I hit 78/86/67/69 on UWSA1 for a 252.

What's the consensus about how many points to subtract for a reasonable score estimate? 10 points? 20? 30?

BTW, to this point I've only touched FA and done about 1/4 of UW. I don't think I'll have time for any Goljan, but do you guys think I should try to fit in Goljan even if it means less time with FA or perhaps not finishing UW?

Thanks!

I'm guessing that the consensus on here is going to be that a 252 is an epic fail, especially considering how close to the test that you are at this time.

How was that test btw compared to the NBME's? I have both 1 and 2 already purchased, and I'm debating doing one of them soon...

15 pts. i vote no to goljan, unless you have the audio and have a commute or would wear them when doing chores and shiz

lol

Well I've only done NBME 5, but what I remember was that I didn't have a clue what was going on and I was to surprised I got a 220. At that point, I hadn't done any review yet so I was getting pounded on some subjects. As far as UWSA1 goes, I thought it was easier in the sense that I'm calibrated to UW questions now. Subjects that I haven't reviewed at all yet -- like Neuro, Pharm, GI, and Endocrine -- were pretty killer since I have a lot of old knowledge but it's really fuzzy...

I may or may not have Goljan audio 😉 But... I don't do chores or commute. If I did any Goljan, it would probably come directly out of time I would otherwise spend memorizing FA. I find that I only miss questions that are "you know it or you don't", like embryology, genetics, and biochem. I have no problem with any of the "thinking" type physio/path questions, so my focus is really on fact absorption at this point...

Yeah dude I paid 50 bucks to be a gold donor, then I decided to stick around for almost 3 years just to make the most troll-acious post ever.

Those are strong averages for a 1st exam. From what I gathered the earlier you take UWSA the closer the prediction. Kids that take it later always seem to have an over prediction, dunno if doing 2000 UW style questions has something to do with it. But yea. 252...not sure how that's bad by any standards, even the ridiculous ones on sdn.

ok, OP, i will assume you are being serious. let me give you a serious answer. you are in good shape. you just want some reassurance that you are on the right path. keep going and you will do just fine. that 252 was not a fluke.

Thanks 🙂 I've gone through 460 UW questions (10 blocks) at this point, with a 62% cumulative average. I started with a couple blocks in the 40's, then I read FA for 2 days, then I was in the high 50's/ low 60's, then I read FA for 3 more days and I'm in the mid-70's

Congrats WashMe on your practice score! You made an insane jump in just a week of studying. It took me like a month to make the leap between the 220 range and the 250 range. I think you'll do great when the time comes.

Our class at WashU is insane this year. I wouldn't be surprised if our average breaks 250.

Thanks man! Just be sure to leave some radonc interviews for me after you pull that 278!

Well I just took UWSA1 today and got 740/260. Overall I thought it was pretty balanced - there were many gimmes and a good number of make you think real hard, and even if you knew the material, you'd probably get them wrong questions.

I'm 4.5 weeks out right now and had a 235 on the school CBBSA exam 6 weeks out pre-studying.

You're about 75% correct on uworld first pass?

yea I'm at 73% cumulative right now with around 500 Qs done. Been doing a lot better after I got used to their question style.
