I took the Aug 2004 MCAT, and received a score of 27S. My GPA isn't high either: 3.58. I'm a Cali resident. What are my chances at a UC? Should I retake the MCAT?

whats the mcat breakdown, which UC did you attend with that GPA.

edit 1: sorry, i thought you attended a UC.

I go to UCSD.

My MCAT score was:
verbal 8
bio 9
phys sci 10

you might have a shot at davis if you have an interesting life story

Even at Davis and Irvine, the least competitive of the UCs, the average matriculant MCAT is in the 32 range. The gpa is around a 3.6 for matriculants. Your MCAT is far enough below the average matriculant that I would say your chances are extremely slim.

What about say a 33R (PS: 13, BS:13, VR:7) and a 3.2 engineering gpa from berk. any shot at a UC here? how about any California school (im a CA resident)

I'm not sure how they would respond to that verbal. Worst case, you might go for an April retake just to get it up to the 9-10 range. On the gpa front, the general rule is that the maximum boost to your gpa is about .3 or so assuming a competitive undergradute institution and a challenging major.

I certainly wouldn't plan on a UC, but with an MCAT that is near the matriculant average and a slightly sub-par gpa, I would say you have a shot at Davis or Irvine. To maximize your chances, apply to a decent number of middle-tier private schools.

My friend from UCLA, non-URM, got into UCSD with a 27R and 3.5ish GPA.
Did she have an Interesting life story? Not really 😕 It doesn't hurt to give it a shot.

My other friend, URM, got into UCLA with 24L.

It's a crapshoot. Your stats are decent enough. I guess it also depends on your GPA breakdown, classes, EC, LORs, interview and who you have raunchy sex with.

yeah, i know someone non-URM, 24M, 2.7 BCMP, 3.0 overall, decent EC, makes carmen electra look like a dog, MSIII at Harvard, had a threesome with a dean or something, with her twin.

damn... that would be GREAT if it were true. too bad we can't sleep our way to the top....
