Hi, I am a long time lurker, and am currently applying to medical school (allopathic)

I was a microbiology major in college; cGPA 3.80, sGPA 3.70. My MCAT score was a 28 (10PS/8VR/10BS).

I am currently completing a 2-year master's program in neuroscience.

I have about 150 hours of clinical volunteering in both a cancer clinic and a pediatric clinic. I have shadowed 3 physicians, a pediatric gastroenterologist, a pediatric nephrologist, and a neurosurgeon, for a total of 30 hours.

My research experience is extensive. I conducted research on Alzheimer's disease for 3 years of college, and continued it into my master's program. I have presented multiple conferences, and a publication is pending.

I also have done many non-clinical volunteering activities, like Habitat for Humanity, community education activities, taking notes for the disabled, etc. This amounts to a total of 150 hours.

My employment includes a long-term position as a lifeguard. This coming academic term I will be a graduate teaching assistant.

I have some other activities, for example I was an SI leader (a TA) for a course, and conduced research for a short period of time in another area. As well, I have won some academic awards, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

So far, I have compiled the following school list. My biggest selection factor was location, as I would like to stay in the New England area, or nearby. Please tell me what you think of this list, and if you have some suggested schools, I would love to hear about them. The few reach schools are a long-shot, I know, but this is all a crapshoot right?

Can't say much more than good luck. I think the dice could roll in your way.

Yea it's a crap shoot. I had same GPA with one point higher in the verbal, similar EC but not as much research. I only received DO acceptances.

retake your MCAT because it is severely holding you back. If that is your GPA and you didn't just cheat your way through college (like some people I know), then there's no reason you can't do better. Find as many practice passages as possible for the verbal section

Do you think it is worth applying now, then updating schools with a new score? I've already stalled med school for two years with my master's program, I wouldn't want to wait another year.
