ANYONE know of any other schools that admit students as secon-bac students? i know csu san fran (san fran state) does, but application cycles have closed. for anyone whos wondering, this is ver beneficial because you can recieve grants and federal loans this way, just like undergrad, instead of pullin private loans for post bac programs as a non degree student.

Don't most schools allow you to re-enter to gain a new degree? I was thinking about it, and maybe I should have done that and gotten a second BSc over two years...oh well.

Double check your source on that info. My sources tell me they are no longer accepting 2nd bacc students but that CSU East Bay was. Don't know for sure, though.

ah yes, its because of the budget cuts, thats why i was looking for other schools, sfsu stopped accepting applicants in jan.

Received this email from UCD's list-serv:

"A very helpful Aggie reports that at a recent meeting at San Francisco State University (SFSU), Dr. Barry Rothman (Post-Bac Program Director) mentioned that the normal deadline for the informal (second bachelors) post-bac applications at SFSU is typically earlier in the year, but an expected shortfall of applicants for Fall 2009 has essentially enabled the program to take applicants through March 3rd.

"Students interested in the joining the informal post-bac program at SFSU won't have any success applying through the traditional channels and should instead contact Feng-Yun Tan at [email protected] and explain that they are interested in the informal program for this coming fall. "I believe the same ~$55 application fee applies but will enable students to avoid the costly method of attending through Open University" (University Extension program like the UC Davis Open Campus)."

It's going to be tough to get 2nd-bac at a CSU. Here's my rejection letter which has a list of schools that are still open for 2nd-bac.

We are sorry to inform you that San José State University will cancel your Fall 2008 application for post baccalaureate admission effective February 29, 2008. According to the information you provided on your application, you seek admission as a second baccalaureate applicant.

In order to achieve the goal of aligning funded and actual enrollments to meet the budget challenges facing our system, Chancellor Reed and the CSU presidents agreed to restrict post-baccalaureate admission to those students who are fully eligible for graduate or credential programs. As one of the 23 campuses in the CSU, San José State University is directed not to admit or enroll students who are second baccalaureate applicants.

We regret the inconvenience this has undoubtedly caused you and we realize this was a decision beyond your control. Consequently, if you have already submitted your $55 application fee, it will be refunded to you in full.

Your options

Option I
You may reapply to SJSU through the graduate division.

Option II
Apply to one of our sister campuses at CSU Bakersfield, Dominquez Hills, East Bay, Los Angeles, Monterey Bay, Sacramento or San Bernardino.

See the post above yours.

That doesn't work because SFSU is too far from southern Santa Clara county.

I also don't like them trying to discourage the people in the SFSU informal program with lower registration priority to fill their overpriced formal program.

Actually, they're trying to fill their INFORMAL program. Only the formal program is open right now but now there's a backdoor into the informal program if you simply contact the person in my post. And if anything, people in their informal program have much, much higher priority than regular SFSU students since we already have 4 years of units in our records.

The policy that your letter mentioned affects all of the CSUs and officially suspends their second bacc programs. If anything, SFSU is being generous by continuing to let people get a second bacc rather than paying for the formal program.

As for being too far from Santa Clara, that's debatable. I'm in Cupertino and I'll gladly make the move for a year to improve my GPA since I'd [1] rather not live at home any more and [2] my job is nothing worth keeping.

Wow, this was written like a year ago? How things have changed from what I have heard more recently. SFSU continued to accept informal post-bacs when they knew they were going to phase out the informal program. Highly untrustworthy and highly unprofessional from what I have heard. I am not sure about the formal program there and how it is run.

So why are we recycling two-year old threads to complain....
Because 2 years ago SFSU had a viable postbac program and now they don't.

Blaming SFSU for being irresponsible, by the way, as the poster above implies, ignores the fact that California is giving out IOU's.

I'm just unsure as to the benefit of whining about SFSU as the more recent poster does. It doesnt appear to help anyone

If I wasn't supposed to reply to a thread than it should be closed. If it is open I can do whatever the hell I like. What are you going to do about it? Whine?

And for your information, I don't whine. I have been actively corresponding with the Chancellor's office and my local CSU campuses to see if there is some sort of way they can restore the post-bac programs in the near future. I have also been communicating with informal students who are still attending CSUs to get an idea of the impact this decision has had on them.
