Hi Everyone!!!!

I applied to UM last year and did not get in after my secondary aplication 🙁
They got my aplication literally on the deadline date, which I know was not really smart. After getting depressed for sometime I geared up and studied my ass of the the August MCAT. And I am currently in a Biomedical sciences Masters Program.
GPA 3.6
MCAT 22P

What deadline should I give myself to turn in the aplication for this year? Is Sept 15, 2005 a good time or am I already consired "late". I am definetely applying to more than one school this time around and I am applying to osteopathic schools as well.

Any advice is welcomed and I would really appreciate it you guys.

Hey Ileana,

I am not sure if that is considered late. I saw somewhere here on SDN that having everything in by September is considered decent. Of course, you have real gunners here at SDN, so just could be these people turning things in by June/July. If you think you could have a one-week to ten-day turn around for secondaries, I think you could have everything in by middle october? It might be Ok. 🙂

Last time I turned in a LOR on the day it was due. I am having a hard time turning in my secondaries this time around too. Ugh! Between work, ECs and recovering from flu or something the last two weeks, I really haven't been working on my secondaries. I know another student who turned her primary in during september/october and it was her second time. She got in last year in May. So don't lose hope. 🙂

What do others think?

I applied late last year - took the August MCAT, and while my secondaries were turned in around September, my LORs weren't in until mid-late November. I got ZERO interviews.

This year, I got everything in early. I hounded my LOR writers, reminding them to get their stuff in with the "last year i didn't get in because i was late - I'm doing my part now, you do yours". I was also much more selective this year and applied to only 6 DO schools and 7 MD schools. I turned around my secondaries within 4 days MAX (and many were same-day service if they were online apps). This year, I have four interviews, three DO and one MD so far. No rejections (yet - but I'm sure they're coming).

So if your file is complete by the end of September, I'd say you're still ok - ahead of the August MCATers. But for me at least, early has proved to be the key.

Thanks for the advice, I guess after reading about a lot of people on this website that really are on top of their aplications and are already on their secondaries I felt kind of bad. So thanks for the response.

Hey Ileana,

How are you doing with the secondaries?

Except for one dream school, I am done with secondaries. Yea!!
But, I still need to hound a prof on LOR. Ugh!! I need to get to his office and explain the importance of getting the stupid letter in. It is a science recommendation, so, it is holding up so many schools that is asking for two science profs. :scared:

Ok, just needed to vent.

Which UM are you talking about? UMich? UMiss? UMin? If it's UMich, their average MCAT is a 34~35.

I have received secondaries from all the MD schools that I applied to, the DO application process is going much slower, even though they have gotten all ,my transcripts they still haven't mailed my profile the DO schools that I aplied to. Supposely it takes 4-6 weeks, I sure hope not. I hope to finish my secondaries very soon.
Good luck!!!
